Allan smokes, the Batio guys think Batio is king...lol, ha!, Allan bury's Batio with his eyes closed. Allan plays in another dimension untouchable by few. GREAT clip! Thanks for sharing.
to understand Holdsworth you have to understand deep improvisation. He's a guitarists guitar player. Think jazz, think spontaneous improve when listening to him solo, or better yet..think art, think colors, think Strange Universe! He's a one-of-a-kind. I love Ingwie Malmsteen's comment about Allan- he said he tried but couldn't duplicate Allan's solo's. He stumped Inqwie! I love it!
The absolute genius of our time way way ahead of all the boring bop players who still get off wanking on old shit Coltrane discarded 50yrs ago Bravo!!!
Good stuff but I prefer his stuff from Secrets. I like the "airiness" for lack of a better term, of that album. This seems more straight-ahead, but I suspect that is partly because no Chad on drums here. More legato, double-stops would be nice to break it up and get more melodic. We all know he can out jazz jazz, but why not blaze your own trail?
I can see the point of some of the detractors. They are saying that Allan has set the bar so high in the past that even he can't blow away his older soloing. Yes, that must be what they are really saying.
There is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to improvement and Allan has reached that point. Every small increment he might improve just isn't noticed amongst all the nice things he does. Yes. That must be what they are saying.
You so called musician critics who are just tiny microscopic novices of the music cosmos don't know what you're talking about,to judge this genious who's changed the music & guitar world. Can a two year old child judge the works or compare himself with Einstein, Issac Newton, Aristotle, Bach, Mozart, The Beatles?
Good ! You should have seen the comments I removed from here, some airheads trying to put down Holdsworth, and a f#&*head telling me to upload something better...irritating...
He influenced shredders, but his playing has little in common with theirs, other than the dexterity he displays. He's much more similar to Coltrane than Satriani, for example.
I love to read comments by people that are "nobodys' putting down legends. its funny stuff. another example of Holdsworth's genius. You have to have a musical brain to like it!
Genius!! Allan was doing this in the seventies!! Way ahead of his time!!! Without him there would be no Stevie Vai, Satch, Gilbert etc, etc!! And they called it "Fusion" back then, now its just "Shred"
many of his solos have an interchangeable quality to them these days, you could take this solo and import it into any number of tunes he's did and it would fit.
disappointing. this is very similar sounding to things he's did and played before, too similar. like treading over ground he's already covered, going through the motions. the effect is all the same. the sense of disovery is gone. i like things he's did in the past but at this point it's getting very samey sounding and isn't as fresh anymore, sterile and chiseled in marble. some changes are in order imo.

Allan Holdsworth improvises with melody like no one did before him, it's great to have been living during his active days.

He is Chick Corea and Coltrane on guitar. More jazz chops than most jazz players. He is the most overlooked and underated musicians of our time.
