Ah, now all the pieces of this story come together. After this race, I left for another group. When the player roster came up, there he was! He had followed me to the new group! (by coincidence, of course). After beating me up a second time, I left for another group only to find two more hackers, HίτMε&Δίε and Mr Bean (fake)!
I've never seen a freeze like that before, but I know that going backwards will get you disconnected. The same thing goes for not moving at all.
