  • wow!!! THANK YOU!!! Mine sounds amazing!!!

  • I've followed every step you've done and mine sounds nothing like that !

  • Great tutorial my friend! THanks so much :D

  • FINALLY. A tutorial where the video maker actually seems to know what he's going to say BEFORE he presses "record"

  • ty bro

  • Thanks :D

  • AWESOME vid, thanks

  • Thank you very much!

  • thanx for this video, man!

  • Um this isn't exactly sidechain compression, this is just a tutorial about how to automate volume in FL. A compressor with a sidechain input is what you use for sidechaining, which is why it's called sidechain compression and not sidechain volume automation.

  • You can do all that stuff there that takes 10 minutes, or you can just use Gross Beats that comes with Fl Studio that takes 10 seconds lol. Both Methods work, but Gross Beats is easier and better

  • so the first thing your gonna wanna do :D

  • are you Kermit the Frog?

  • Comment removed

  • Thats whats up!! If you want some free kits check me out

  • you sound like Kermitt the Frog

  • @TheRogueDubstep love your tunes mate their banging! who inspires you in your music?

  • @TheWasabiSause mate a whole host of different producers, not just dubstep either. Loads of rock and metal, and classical.

  • @TheWasabiSause ohh right:) big fan anyway mate:D hope you get all the recognition you deserve, any chance of a cheeky shoutout in your next vidd?;D

  • Fruity poot contoller

    I lol'd

  • It worth it watching your video man THANKS !

  • That was so helpful. Thanks!

  • Thats a nice warm sound I like it.

  • Helped me a lot. Thanks, man.

  • "jumping up and down with the kickdrum"

hmmmm, that may sound a little wrong ....

  • Thanks so much for the video, good explanations too!

  • ...do you understand how many shitty productions you just destroyed with this tutorial. xD

  • Thank you thank you, good sir!!! It seemed so complicated in other tutorials, but you made it easy as pie!

I can side chain! Woop woop!!

  • Y when I sidechain it only play out of one speaker

  • FUCK, ME! As if it's what this is, I've been making beats for 6 years, and I had no idea!

  • thanks bro!!!!! :D other tutorial were shitty, but this one learned me how to sidechain :D

  • Yo Man!

    This is one PERFECT tutorial.

    Thank you so very much!

The time and brain wreckage this saves is truly STERLING help!

Much appreciated doesn't quite say it...

    TY!!!

    Peas.

  • hey guyth, ath you can thee, thith tutorial ith on thidechain compression, and it ith very uthful.

    lol

    thanks!

  • this isnt sidechain compression, its just sidechaining the volume/(aka ducking). Proper sidechain comp uses a compressor with the threshold linked. still good video though XP

  • i can i make a reverse sidechain? When the peak controll sound the compressor not sound and viceversa? is possible?

  • Comment removed

  • :D you are my hero. Fuck all VST's... FLStudio can do it all ^_^cept for massive that shyts syck XD

  • thanks that help...i was trying to do it the same way I do in in Pro Tools and it was too much work...This is much simpler .

  • sounds like dane cook?

  • tnx you legend ^^

  • awesome tutorial thanks!

  • @TheePianoMan Should work with anything that you can route through the mixer :D

  • @ZephyrTread what pad did u use? and where do u find it?

  • ITS NOT A FUCKING SIDECHAIN COMPRESSION !! WHY??!! because you dont use compressor and sound is not compressed its just controlling the volume ;)

  • @dn2101 It's essentially the same thing so your argument is invalid.

  • @w00tkid No its not! Because its controling volume of channels on mixer. So where is compression here?

I know that effect is similar but belive me its not siidechain compression. It can be called sidechain compression when you do this thing using Fruity Limiter. And if you know how the compression works you should see and hear the difference

  • @dn2101 If you knew anything about compression, you would know that compressors modify the volume of sounds within a mix by narrowing an audio signal's dynamic range. So automating the volume of this synth to make room for the kick to come through is essentially compression.

  • why is this considered compression?

  • ur gay! >:(

  • "So... on your Fruity Poot Controller here..." xD

Thanks man. :D This helped a lot. Great tootorial. *Badum-tish*

  • this was great....I knew there was SOME type of Compression used in getting that Pumping Sound...I just didnt know what...i have been enlightened and inspired...thank you :D

  • this the easiest method so far, many thanks to you man

  • Finally, finally -- I understand a little about side chaining. Every other tutorial I've read or seen made absolutely zero sense. Thanks, man!

  • Hey how do you side chain multiple channels? In other words, if I add more vsts and want the volume to be automated, should I apply each vst to a mixer channel, and then add a fruity peak controller to each respective vst channel? My goal is to have some dance leads be compressed at the same time as the pad is being compressed when the kick drops out. Is there a way to do this?

  • @winsomelosesome14 send them all to the same fx

  • @winsomelosesome14 link them to the same controller, AND make sure Remove Conflicts is not on. I tested it recently with a bass and a pad.

  • Thank you so much very helpfull indeed!

  • thanks bro it helped me

  • very nice tut, thanx

  • thank you!!!

  • Thanks man

  • Manual fade? i like it.

  • Thanks Leaned a lot!

  • thanx man... you save me alot of time right now... :)

  • Thank you for this! It helped a lot! Great job and easy to follow!!

  • awesome tutorial, i'll sub to this channel

  • great tutorial! i wish other people did them this well too.

  • Perfect, just what I was looking for. Cheers ;D

  • ur beat is nice

  • Great tutorial man, I was able to get it going on the first attepmt. Thanks so much!!

  • thanks for this

  • great tutorial mate, never knew what it was called hey!! thanks heaps mate!!!!

  • Check out my channel for a video response! Been having trouble putting my video as a direct response. Great tutorial zephyr! Hope you keep em' coming!

  • No one ever mentions that if you map the threshhold of the compressor to the peak controller or what not that you have to INVERT the mapping. That way it starts from min to max (instead of max to min) .

  • @JustBeachyGuy well then it's a good thing he mentions it in this vid ;)

  • thanks a million

    muchas gracias

  • I could use some help, my Fruity Peak Controller is WORKING, because when I enable it the kicks are muted, but the plugin does not appear and therefore I cannot use it. I've tried redownloading the .dll file but it won't work because the other file is still there. Could someone please help me fix this? I feel like having that vst would give my mixes exactly what they are missing... email me if you have a solution, c.logan91@yahoo.com

    thanks.

  • Those 9 dislikes are Justin Beiber hating on this! DAMN HIM!!

  • I agree. Its not compression but, still great video and thanks for sharing. I've been looking for something like this. Thanks a lot.

  • should nt the mappin formula be on inversed

  • Thank you man :)

  • why do you talk in your computer lol

  • good tutorial

  • very helpful

  • How can I have this sidechain effect without hearing the kick at all (for example to a point on a song where the main melody starts to rise)

  • @laakso1232123 automate the volume slider of the kick, it won't affect the peak controller

  • Why buy fl studios? when u can download it for free!!! =]

  • @daproduktion Because people had to do a huge job to make FL so popular, powerful and... Perfect.

  • /watch?v=k-JThGtsP-Q

  • Beautifull my friend nice job

  • thanks man that was alot of help. the outro song is sick btw!

  • Couldn't you also set the attack of the synth to a little later? You'll end with the same result, that's what I do. :)

  • wait how would i sidechain a sub bass track so it doesnt get in the way of the bass kick?

  • you have no idea how great this is. its way better than the tutorial that imageline gave on their youtube page. so easy that i damn near memorized it.

  • this was beautiful

  • theres an autogun sound that uses a stupid amount of CPU and keeps making a lot of crackles in my speakers.. any ideas of how to fix that so it uses a lot less cpu? (even when muted, the signal is still making the crackle)

  • @BrnoutJerzey i have the same problem

  • @JDtechnique

yeah if its fine (no crackle) after u convert it to mp3 i can live with that, i need to find that out for sure

  • @BrnoutJerzey clone your kick, assign to different channels. Leave one channel blank and assign peak on the other. Then make your melody and assign it to a separate channel, on the master right click the melody channel's volume meter and link it to cloned kicks channel with peak on it.

( Follow etc rules shown in vid, inversion, peaking)

  • good stuff man helped me alot thanks!

  • at 5:14 "Fruity Poot Controller" lol

  • hey, I have one problem...when i sidehain something, only the first note is sidechained, not the melody, even tough i blend them, how do i make sure that 100% of the melody is sidechained?

  • Really helpful, man. Thankyou. Nice to to see you've actually explained the processes, instead of just pointing at things, like I've seen in other tutorials. Best tutorial on sidechaining I've seen.

  • what a waste of time

  • are you on plane?

  • where's the compressor? lol

  • Thanks for the Tutorial man.....it really helped!

  • thanks alot man. 4 years in music production..already released tracks..and NOW at this point im learning sidechain hehe thanks alot br0 :)

  • This is not sidechain compression!

  • very helpful friend!

  • This is retarded, you aren't compressing shit in this video...

  • hi thanks heaps...how do you sidechain 3xOCS? i tried ...doesnt have the option of applying to free mixer track

  • nice tutorial bro xD i'm probly never gonna use this technique but i'm glad to know how it's made in FL !

  • Are yo ACE SPINTER??

  • thanks :) :)

  • Great tutorial, helped a lot. Thanks.

  • Great tutorial. Makes me wish FL studio had a compressor with a side-chain ability. The peak controller is an amazing tool, but it doesn't need to be connected to volume, hence is NOT a compressor--more so a dynamic based tool. For those who don't know, you CAN automate a compressor as well as volume with the peak filter at the same time, creating whats known as gain pumping or side-chain compression. Cheers!

  • @LogicalDefiance - It does. Fruity Limiter/Compressor has sidechain control built in. It has been a plugin in FL Studio for a while now, a couple years I believe. A lot of people seem to not realize that the Fruity Limiter also has a compressor, hence why some of the recent FL Guru Tutorial videos from Image Line have been mentioning this again.

  • would this work on samples... or just vst's only ?

  • how do u keep the sidechain going when u record if u havnt done the notes b4 coz i hav a tune but without the sidechain noise had to record it dont sound the same

  • How do you put an effect on the sidechain (synth) without it effecting other channels(bass drum)

  • best side chaining is done best in Ableton Live hands down.

  • thanx,,,great help

  • this isnt sidechain compression. Its sidechain peak controlling. Using sidechain compression is better because you can vary the intensity of the pumping more.

  • what chords you use?

  • Iv tried several times following you're tutorial but i just end up making my kick have no volume and the pad not effected.

  • hip hop SO died the day we figured out how to do this shit on computers.

  • @nichobert

hip hop beats from the very beginning were made with computers

  • @nichobert not hip hop, just low level recording studios

  • Best Video I've seen on sidechaining ever!!

  • thanks for the tip

  • HOLY CRAP ITS NEIL FROM FAMILY GUY

  • @dontFwithJoe -wow so true

  • perfect

  • haha where is the compressor? Your sidechaining the volume amateur.

  • @Gebakstrijder zomg no compressor?! its a term you dildo hes controlling the peak volume thus compressing the range of the song.... megafail.

    great tutorial btw.

  • @mrzl13 It's clear you've got no idea what compressing is. The guy in this video is controlling the volume with the peak of his kick, while with side-chain compression you control the compressor with the peak of you kick. Like Weedinthebakyar1 said, what the guy in this video does got nothing to do with compression. Turning the volume up/down isn't the same as compressing, mister producer.

  • @Gebakstrijder im no producer i just dont get a hard on everytime i can show off my musical vocabulary. by the definition of compression he is compressing something. calm down its ok the worlds not going to end because theres no compressor and he called it compression :)

  • @mrzl13 : sorry to disapoint you, but he's not compressing anything. read the definition of compression before call someone "dildo", you dildo

anyway, good tutorial, well explained and useful

  • Hi man!

I liked your tutorial, thanks for help!!

    Cya!

  • thank you for the time!

  • Awesome videos Zephyr, you're really a big help :)

  • Thanks! That was very clear and well-presented.

  • good video. thanks

    Dj Kru

  • best tutorial ive ever seen!

  • you have an idiot voice.

  • best formular for this is 0.7-input *0.4

u can change the *0.4 to whatever u want but it has to be from 0.1 to 0.7

  • I do excatly the same thing as your doing in this video. But mine doesn't do the same as yours. The volume doesn't seem to change that much from high to low. It just stays in the middle and bounce a bit.

    Can anyone help me ?

  • Useful info...but are the side channel fx channels is FLstudio just a way of organizing/labelling this effect, or are they for doing something completely different?

  • awesome!:D thanks

  • hablas demasiado

  • play runescape.

  • u'd better use real compressor: just link "threshold" to peak controller's "peak", unmute, adjust ratio of the comression and play with "decay" or "tension" of peak controller. this will be much more common with side chainnig, i think

  • there are actualy a lot off ways to create a side chain am i right but the best way to compress it gud vid 5/5

  • good good

  • Great tutorial, but I think that you have a lisp

  • @Taraborn

    it's probably the mic

  • Great work guy

  • that's a good explanation, didn't trail off talking about other unnecessary shit. thanks this is going to help me big time 5stars ^_^

  • This is just normal sidechainin' nothing to do with compression..

You dont even use a compressor..

  • I totally agree with you. They are not the same think at all.Sidechain is just an effect but comrpessor is more like a limiter-amplifier

  • @Weedinthebackyard1 the peak controller is a compressor..

  • @Weedinthebackyard1

DONT FUCK he tried to help other people if u think that its suck make your tutorial idiot

  • @Weedinthebackyard1 u Do know that compression is just automated volume control right?

  • @Weedinthebackyard1 Technically this is a form of compression, but this does not use a compressor. the name of this video should not have 'compression' in the title... more like "here's a cool way to make your synths pump"
