  • Why NBC hasn't used this as their NHL theme, I'll never know.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, what a great song, i don't get tired of listening it, cheers for that!

  • You're a great teacher Mr. Oberst!

  • pretty good, but nothing can replace DA DA DUN DA DUN DA DA DUN DA DUN

  • colin oberst is my garde.6 teacher now at holy family school in edmonton he is so cool

  • this guy right here wass my grade 6 teacher and music teacher!!!

woot woot! go Mr.O !!!! <3<3 we love you!

  • love it

  • Im an american and i LOVE hockey night in canada. To bad the song had to change. Im just happy the Monday Night Football theme didnt change when it went from abc to espn.

  • I live in michigan. gotta watch those wings!

  • i'm in michigan too, but i favor the flyers! and i've like em since b4 they met the wings in 97. Wasn't just trying to be contrary.

  • haha thats sad... since you live in michigan you can like the red wings when ever you like.

  • this guy teaches at my school

    holy family

  • mr. o is my teacher to art teacher and the elementary valley ball coach i help him coach lol

  • This is pretty awesome....congrats Collin Oberst!

  • The bagpipe part at the beginning is the only part that actually has an actual melody there is also a horn section that sounds decent, but the majority of the song is just a jumbled up mess of sounds and random melodies. Alike many of the other entries.

  • the old one is so much better!

  • I can see this anthem lasting a long time. Its freakin sweet

  • This was a just a temporary opening to see how the song fits with the theme.

  • lol a leafs fan bitchin what else is new, dont worry bob cole will cover the leafs losing all season bud

  • Oberst plagiarized the theme music to "the Office" TV series. What kind of message is that sending to the other contestants who wrote original scores- er, or did they?

CBC should do its homework. Surprisingly, there's no word of a copyright lawsuit.

  • To the guy that thought this version plagiarized the opening music to "The Office" Tv series. Are you smoking fucking crack? Maybe you should go listen to more music with waffles on your ears. They sound nothing alike, nothing at all. You dummy.

  • What's wrong with the song? it sounds good, there was some songs entered by people that really sucked so it could've been a lot worse. I think people need to get over the old song not being on there, sure it's like a second anthem but come on, get over it, it's still HNIC. If they get rid of Maclean and Cherry then it's not HNIC.

  • Hey I agree with you iamtrav26, The other entries did sound pretty terrible. This one is perfect! It will become a classic, like the old one, in the years ahead

  • seriously guys, look at the thumbs up/down ratings here. the other viewers votes kinda tell the story here. loved mr. o, he was my elementary teacher too

  • Hey, I like this! Its a really dynamic, well-arranged song; congrats to the winner. To those of you saying it's "mediocre" I ask; where's your entry? At least people had the creativity to come up with something completely new for this country's 'national passtime'. Sure, nothing will ever replace the nostalgic feeling and national pride that comes with the original theme song, but at least this one was made BY fans and voted for BY fans. So obviously the negative opinions don't really matter xD

  • Omg Mr.O im so glade u won Canadian gold rocks

  • lol no one is forcing you to watch cbc. CBC is made for REAL hockey fans

  • its a song.

  • weiiird, he used to be my old elementary teacher

  • I love this tune! I voted for it because it has ups and downs and is a multicultural song, with all the instruments (including the bagpipes) which adds a nice touch! Congrats on winning, sad to see the old tune ride into the sunset tho.

  • lets all be honest here, the new song is fine. the old one was fine as well. its just that many of us have memories related to the old one. there is nothing musically awful about the new one, and dthievin obviously isn't a professional musician or he wouldn't be spouting nonsense like that.

  • This is so typically Canadian, meaning mediocre at best. The woman who penned the original Hockey Night in Canada theme must be rolling her eyes at how so-called writers lay down some technoschlock and then win a "Canadian" contest. Thank heavens for the seasoned studio musicians who rearranged this and made it sound professional -- but if you can't hum it, it'll never be a real anthem.

  • Just like giving a .5% to someone who's been drinking Guinness his whole life...

  • Well gratz for winning... but....

The original one is SO MUCH BETTER.

  • Congratulation Colin Oberst for the CBC's new hockey anthem . A proud Canadian.

  • Very catchy! Congrats Oberst. I love the bagpipes at the beginning and incorporation of string instruments as a compliment.

  • Congrats Mr. Oberst!!!!

I don't care what others say...but this song fits perfectly with HNIC!!! I love it!!!

Now with the years to come, hopefully Canadians can pick up the melody and hum it like the old one!!! Good job Colin!

  • I waited until today to listen to any of the entries, mostly because it took that long to get over losing the old theme. I've gotta say, though, that this song is just beautiful, and I look forward to hearing it for a long time. Here's to the next generation of HNIC!

As for the old song, as far as I'm concerned, it's dead and gone, because CTV stole and then deformed our old friend by remixing it. Besides, that song used to be about playoff hockey, not "Tue night ATL vs NSH on TSN".

  • I think the best themes were missed in the competition. This just doesn't suit Hockey Night in Canada.

  • i loved that people voted for Robert because he''s a kid

  • learn how to spell, ur probably that 13 yr old kids friend... or something

  • Stop watching Hockey Night in Canada and start watching something that will improve your spelling.

  • @bonecrusher088: On behalf of all viewers, we won't miss you.

  • I am really hoping this one wins. I have a feeling it will come down to this one and the 13-year old kid's entry. Look, the kid deserves to be top 5 and gets a lot of kudos but there is NO WAY any of the songs even come close to matching Colin Oberst's in terms of emotional appeal, excitement and potential staying power. If this song had 50 years of emotional memories associated with it the way the old song did, I will be so bold as to say this one would be considered better.

  • I agree, the 13 year old kid sounds too soft and not exciting enough. This one has a lot of feeling to it and especially for hockey. Im voting thins one for the winner! Im glad it made it to the top 2. You have my support Mr. Oberst!

  • I agree 100%. Folks vote for Colin's theme! The kid is amazing that he was able to do what he did, but it isn't the theme I want to listen to when I turn on Hockey Night in Canada.

  • Well done colin, a real catchy tune!!, like it alot!! best of luck!!, best wishes from liverpool England

  • Go Colin Go!!!!!, I'm rooting for you. Like someone else said, this song does not get tiring. I love it. It this song I want to hear every Saturday night to get me pumped for the upcoming games.

  • The best of the final 5 by far, the others are more old fashioned and don't sound nearly as anthemic. This one is catchy and rousing, like all sports themes should be.

It has the ability to stand the test of time.

But, although his theme is not nearly as powerful, I think the kid will win just because people want a feel good story.

  • it shouldnt be that way....trust me people will regret voting for the 13 year old kid if his song gets old. this song ive been listening to this for about 2 weeks now, at least 20 listenings a day, and i havnt got tired of it yet, the 13 year olds is nice but this one has rhythm, im not saying that just because i know oberst, but its the truth

  • Hey I agree with you! It is the truth!

I listened to this as much as you did and it doesn't sound boring at all! I LOVE IT!!

The tune and melody and rhythm is great, very tiumphant (if thats how you spell it) and really fits with hockey and also its very catchy! I voted for this one already and in my thoughts, YES IT WILL WIN!!!

  • I voted for this one! And I will again if it becomes the 2 finalist. I love it. Bagpipes is a little weird but its not bad, I love it. The melody is perfect, I'm already starting to hum it a little, like the old one lol! I hope this one wins!!

  • I can see this being the winner. It is far better than the others, and has my vote.

  • This is the best. It better win.

  • I love this one, too! But they'll need to better the transition between Foster's voice and the bagpipe intro.

  • It needs a bit more snare drums. Like a military charge.

  • This one has my vote, 2nd is the 13 yr old kid.

  • The Best one I have heard. Love the Bagpipes. All the others were flat..

  • By far the best. The only one with a distinct tune.
