Here's another good question... How many slaves were freed by Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation?
Answer: Zero. Zip. Nada. The Proclamation freed only slaves that couldn't be freed, by leaving those which could be freed still in slavery. Meanwhile during the War, slave labor was used to build the dome on the U.S. Capitol, and Union General U.S. Grant used slaves to drive his carriage.
Some war to end slavery, huh? Slavery was ended by Constitutional amendment AFTER the War.
Southern strategy from the beginning was to defend itself; not attack anyone. The better question to ask is why the North invaded the South. Without Northern aggression there would have been no war to begin with, and I wouldn't be paying 1/3 of my income into taxes under tyrants like Hussein Obama.
It's utter silliness to accuse the South of "terrorism." I expect you also believe that the War was fought to free the slaves; a fiction which became history AFTER the War.
vermont??? only man I know who went farthest N. was John H. Morgan, he was cap. Lisbon Oh. Not sure who raided vermont. Plz. let me know. and as for 'sniping'? yeah, they were called sharpshoters, the rebs used a rifle called a Witworth.
Unknown territory? The union fought in the south and that was unknown. They also didn't snipe much during the Civil War it was fought with rifled muskets.
A simple answer is if the Army of Northern Va was approx 70,000 medium strengh..... and Union had 120,000 approx....you really don't have the resources to launch those sort of campaigns... plus the CSA always had to protect their escape route.
Actually Stonewall Jackson who was the souths most aggressive (and arguably the best general of the war) requested to invade the north many times. He was always turned down by Lee.
The South simply wanted to succeed. They werent fighting for the "power" to controll the Government. The simply wanted to be left alone. They believed in Freedom and self determination. The union believed in a centralized government that tramples the rights of men. Sad you champion the wrong side.
Hey, dude. Listen, not trying to say much, but I think that Lee might have also have feared another disaster like Antetam if he invaded the north again. Just an idea.
dude they would have lost either way if they would have attack the north they would have just waisted their lives on just stupidness and the north was supplying them with ammo and guns and stop them from fighting its stupid just say the north is better and the south sucks
You are right about the fact that confederate calvalry attacked northern occupied towns in the south. (for example, the southern calvalry would attack railroad lines occupied by the union) Read Next comment
It is a fact that confederate calvalry did invade the north. These raids on northern towns were from guerillas that ussually demanded money from the union by acts of terrorism. For Example: in July 1864, John McCausland led his confederate guerilla calvalry up to Chambersburg Pennsylvania. There, he threatend to burn the town down if the union didn't pay $500,000. 3/4ths of the town was destroyed before help arrived.
Funny you parrot the same garbage our Government claims now. Soon you will be a "domestic terrorist" when you dont do what the Government (union) wants. Your lost.
The confederates left with ransom money from other towns. Regarding the question asked in this video, I beleive the confederates wanted to terrorize the union by attacking the villages. It was almost like an act of piracy for the few daring raiders that invaded northern towns.
To add my 2 cents.. Confederate forces, namely cavalry, did attack Federal forts of occupied cities in the South. Many southern cities were occupied by some sort of garrison after 1862. Middle TN, where I live, wascompletely occupied by the Federal Army of the Cumberland. Men from Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan occupied forts that gaurded the rails and the rivers that were so essential to troop and supply movement. It was the beginning of and strategic invasion of the South by occupation.

Perhaps the persons who asked the question meant geographically Northern Forts then that's an entirely different thing indeed.
