Happy Christmas from Ireland to every one. It is Christmas eve and I can smell the turkey beginning to cook. I don't know who said this first but it is so true. Mathis is a brilliant natural singer & obviously one of the best we've ever had or will have. How can anyone not like his singing? I always appreciate it when a song arrangement includes the original intro to make it whole & it was the first time that I have ever heard this song with the intro which only added to its greatness. It's hard to believe that some prefer Groban over Mathis. The 'old' classic singers (& actors) are irreplaceable & they're aren't too many of them left with us.

@unkulmark Younger people especially, have only heard and know the career of Groban. If they saw the body of work of JM, as I did in my life, there is no comparison. Groban is a wonderful singer but let's see if he ever reaches the heights of JM who can sing anything in any genre and has for almost 56 years. I like Josh Groban very much I'm amazed and in awe of Johnny Mathis.

I've always loved this version because of the intro that is omitted from other versions. I also like The Beach Boys version with the beautiful harmonies. Sinatra does a nice version also on the Jolly Christmas.

Brings a tear to my eye thinking about how good and how different things were back then before my parents divorced. The song really pulls your heart strings...

I keep coming back to this video and reading all of the beautiful comments, about Johnny Mathis, the song, and your artistry, Angela, then realize I haven't let you know how much I'm enjoying it! We just got one grandson home, from the Navy, and his younger brother has signed up to go into the service, after graduation from High School. I know at least two others have returned, recently, in our extended families. Another, is in my home town, with his family, training to fly helicopters. .

I read somewhere that Johnny Mathis gave a promising career in track and field as well as a chance to perform in the Helsinki Olympics to sign a recording deal with Columbia Records.  He's also a good friend of basketball legend Bill Russell whom he attended the University of San Francisico with.

I absolutely love this song ~ video. Johnny's subtle, yet distinctive, inflections in his voice bring the sweet and warm feeling he expresses. I've heard him say in many interviews that his parents, particularly his mother and her love for Christmas, was his inspiration for recording this music. She must be listening still. What joy he must have brought her as he brings to us. Wishing that humanity will feel it's 'heart' and act from such inspiration in the year ahead. Many thanks again.

WOW is right, this is just absolutely beautiful. I have loved this song for years, since it came out really. I was lying in a hospital bed and not sure I would be out for Christmas, I did make it that time, this surely brought back memories.
