is in which of all Frank's live performances can find this? because i have The You Can't do that on stage Series and it's totally different. thank for the help.
I've noticed a lot of comments below about Zappa not being mentioned, or featured; when a documentary about the '60's comes on. And how come you never hear his music on "classic radio" stations? And when a film comes out that takes place in the '60's, you can bet your bottom dollar it will feature "White Rabbit", "All Along the Watchtower", and "Born to Be Wild" in the soundtrack-but never Zappa...or Quicksilver Messenger Service, Moby Grape, or Captain Beefheart, for that matter.
You know, when you talk about the greatest guitarists of all time, everyone mentions Jimi, Eddiie, Page, Stevie . . . but then someone says "Frank." And everyone goes: "Oh, yeah." I just don't understand why Frank is a sidenote. One of the best musicians--OF ANY KIND--ever.
@triplettam I guess people just don't take the time to listen to his stuff, cause he doesn't fit in with the others' soloing-philosophy style. He took a completely different approach, unappreciated by most of the "wow, what a sweet lick" kind of people.

I have an interview where Frank was asked about Eddie Jobson and Frank said, "Eddie had priorities in strange places.....I don't want to say anything bad about him...."
I should have made the Jobson to Zappa connection a long time ago. The next little while, I'll be finding out all I can about them. Much more respect for both of them now.
Eddie Jobson and Jean Luc Ponty are great, but it's too bad Frank never hooked up with Jerry Goodman-his ferocious attack and passionate virtuosity make the other rock/jazz violinists sound easy listening by comparison-much more suited to Frank's music-maybe Dweezil will hook up with him.
I really miss Frank. I turn on "rock" radio these day and--except for a few bands like Tool--nobody is doing anything interesting. At least that the radio moguls allow us to hear. I'm really happy that Dweezil is doing his Zappa on Zappa. Frank can't die. He won't really be appreciared until 2025.
@triplettam yeah, zappa is a one of a kind and im rally happy i got to hear his music. zappa changed me and made me see music in a whole different way. im truly honored.
i can never like warner bros or al gore after what they did to zappa !
@loislombardo Well, my friend, you are in a minority. His kind of music, as you know, wasn't just kind of good or catchy. It was brilliant. He was a classical composer. He wrote out all the parts for every instrument and came up with concepts that even I or my friends don't fully understand. I just picked 2025 because that's when I felt our obsession with drum machines and image and minimalism will end and somebody might just look back and see what great artist could have been overlooked. SC
@triplettam He wasent overlookd by me or some of my frends.Ive been into Frank since i was 14 im 50 now and i rareley listen to much anything else Slash can kiss my ass he sucks but thats my op.Frank did and does have millyins of fans we need to stick together.Talk to me
@loislombardo Okay. The people who come here and seek out his music and comment are probably not who I'm talking about. but her's what I mean. Frank is hardly ever played on the radio. And when I go to friends houses who have his music, they generally don't play it because Frank's music command attention. Consequently, he's not part of the playlist of our collective minds. So, when discussions are had about the greatest bands of all time, his name rarely comes up. Go to 2nd part of reply below.
@loislombardo Frank should always be near the top. I'll be honest with you. I'm guilty of it. All my records are in storage; I just have a couple CDs packed in a closet and Zappa plays Zappa. I was looking up UK and Eddie Jobson and this song was recommended. I had never heard it, but I remember thinking: " I always forget how damn good Frank was." I know not everybody overlooks him, certainly not you and I'm glad about that. But he belongs on jukeboxes and radios so that everyone can hear him.
@loislombardo Okay, I sent you a response in 2 parts, but they are not in order. Start with the response that starts with "Okay." OK? Frank is just rolling his eyes.
@zappalaney Just a bit of hyperbole there, friend. What I meant was that in 2025--or years in the future from when he recorded--society in general will catch up to his genius, like they did with, oh, Van Gogh or others. I mean he has a huge fan base, but except for them, he's never included in the conversation of the "greatest." But then I see what's on MTV these days and say: "Nah. We're just lucky to have gotten to know him at all." Slainte.
@triplettam Good point about Zappa not being mentioned among the greats on radio. Ever notice when they talk about the 60's or do a Beatles special, Zappa's never mentioned. "Kill Ugly Radio".
Wow, Lady Bianca plays on this, how rare! She only stayed with the band for a month as she felt uncomfortable singing some of Frank's highly sexual lyrics...!
How did you know that honey, I stayed more than a month with this band and I was not uncomfortable with the lyrics it was the actions I wasnt so sure about. Frank music was phenomal
FZ created the greatest rock music there ever was and ever will be. He and Steely Dan are the two greatest that rock music has to offer, and Zappa was light years ahead of The Dan in my opinion.
more than that, i think he went beyond rock....... pure transcendent music genius, way ahead of his time. don't think we'll see the like of him again anytime soon :(
I have always said the same. lol, My e-mail is FZappaTranscends. he absolutely does transcend rock music and we'll never hear it like that again. Frank was the greatest offspring that rock music has had to claim, but he still goes unknown and unheard because people hear 'Broken Hearts Are For Assholes' and think he's weird. Good lord Zappa forbid they'd give a listen to Civilization Phaze III.
@GDarkstar74 Zappa yes, but Steely Dan?! Have you ever heard Robert Fripp, and all of his projects?! He is like the other Zappa with Zappa still on top, and much further progressing in music.
ZAPPA & FRIPP are the real KINGS. Steely Dan is not the same, though great. There are many others much better: HOLDSWORTH, METHENY, HOWE, HILLAGE, HACKETT, Bill NELSON...
INCREDIBLE violin solo by Eddie JOBSON, my fav. "Black Napkins" version, AMAZING.
@worldcitizengrendel Definitely gotta agree with that one, Steely Dan doesn't even come close to the majority of the progressive bands from the 1970's. Peter Hammill is definitely another genius.
i've had this show for a while and it's one of my favorites of all the Zappa shows I have. Black Napkins, The Torture Never Stops, and Advance Romance are great. FZ rips it up this show, his solos are amazing.
So where's the rest??? Franks solo is the best part, and it gets sooooooo goooood.
Ummm.... hate to ask. But isn't "Eddie" looking a tad bit emasculated in the photo shown here from :30 to 3:30?? High heels, high-cut trousers, and what looks like rouge/blush on the cheekbone??? Did he go through some sort of cross-dressing phase?? Just asking....
I just wanted to showcase the pink napkins section, not often you hear Frank solo in this style. This is all I have posted (so far?), and yep it's from an 'audience recording'.
@timmo1782 - "It's not often you hear Frank solo in this style." Wow, you're not kidding. There's an almost Kind of Blue - type of feel to his playing here. It so quietly, introspectively emotive. There is a boot ouyt there with Frank and Eddie doing this little ditty. The album is "Titties and Beer...Zoot Allures in PARIS. I will try to get it up on the tube. It is an even better versionn than this.
Jobson kicks ass> I wish he was doing something, anything musically. Its like he dropped off the face of the earth. Most people dont know he was almost a member of Yes in the 90125 days. It never worked out. Seeing him and Rabin live together would have been amazing
He is now coming out with a new band - UKZ with former members of King Crimson, etc. Check it out - there is a video on YouTube under UKZ-Radiation and a tour starting in New York
At some point, I notice it most in 1988, FZ started into a style of picking a lot of notes. The one thing he does with his r. middle finger on bass strings, he'd been doing awhile, since 79 or 80.
the solo on Fifty:Fifty on Overnite, he went for picking all the notes, but it seemed anomalous at that juncture.
Compared to a Holdsworth, FZ maybe picks more, compared to McLaughlin, a whole lot less.

Those 3 men are the reason I won't be bringing an axe up to Hebbinz. Of course Chad & Vinnie will be spread a little thin but Chester, Tony & Billy will be "dialogging" so no complaints from me an' Jeebuz [who uses a capo like Iceman Collins].
well it gets to the point eventually. FZ rips a fucking phenomenal solo. I can't get enough of this one. unfortunately this person didn't post the rest of the solo.
