  • You kinda feel that Tolkien used Finnish as one of the most important raw materials for his Elvish languages. This song kinda causes an association with "Namarie"^^

  • @NotOnlySelfLover There is some discussion on this point on the National Geographic video at

Beyond The Movie - The Lord of the Rings [4/5]

    where it discusses Tolkien's influences

  • I have not yet been able to get this early record. AFAIK it was recorded by one form of the '1st incarnation' of Värttinä - still a group of adolescent amateurs. If so, I'm just amazed by the balanced richness of the arrangement and professionalism of the performance. If not so - I guess I'm still amazed ;)

  • Saatana,surullinen musa!

  • @MrJAUHO and somehow it makes me happy...

  • lumoava biisi...

  • Definitely Sari! There are some rare footage around here on the tube. I recently found a documentary where Värttinä is filmed at their home in Rääkkylä. In one of the 3 parts, Sari is filmed while singing the first few lines!

  • Yes. Kirsi Kähkönen.

  • Who sings the solo part? Is it Sari?

  • No, it sounds more like Johanna. Sari usually sings at a higher pitch.

  • It does kinda sound like Johanna, but it couldn't be, because this song is from their 1989 album, and Johanna didn't join till 2001... ;)

  • @prosperitycraft yes it's Sari. She wrote the song when she was 15 years old.

  • Great song.

  • such a pretty song
