Thank you Ernie...I am a big fan of you and the crew and I did notice something wasn't looking right when you were on the air. I thought about it, but didn't investigate until tonight. I found your Wikipedia page and got the answer. I saw this Youtube page and watched you share your testimony with tears rolling down my face...I hope you are doing well, and I also want to say I am sorry for your loss.(your father) Thank you again...Christopher A. Cangemi
Ernie's a good sportscaster and appears to be a good guy. I don't agree with his religious views--he's really laying it on thick in this clip--but to each his own.
@everybody who says god bless him and things like that: how stupid are you? God first gives him cancer and then you want him to bless him? God gave him CANCER if god was real. That shit is crazy. Just like when an earthquake hits a city and kills 50.000 and you find a baby in the ruins and say it's a miracle and you praise god for it while he just killed 50.000 with an earthquake and destroyed the city. And don't tell me that's the devil's work cause judging from the bible god loves to destroy.
@Gocavs1990 God tolerates evil and rebellion, but only for so long. In those Bible stories, people were warned repeatedly before God raised His hand against them. Don't focus on Sodom and Gommorah without also reading about Nineveh.
Why are people afflicted? You're not promised your next heartbeat. The story of Job, Psalm 102, these are stories of afflictions suffered by God's people. We suffer like anyone else, but we don't become embittered over it.
@musclecarministry I don't know if you believe in the literal truth of the bible but judging from the fact that about 50% of the american voters believe so I'd say you do. Now do you think the bargaining away of his daughters by Lot shows respect to the position of women in society? How about Judges 19-21? The book of judges is full of evil. I've read both the quran and the bible both have some pretty evil things in it but the bible might even win it, in evilness, from the quran.
@Gocavs1990 Women were treated as property in those days. That was how it was. That's the history. It was Christ who elevated the status of women. The Bible is not written nor was it intended to be politically correct. The books of Judges, Kings, and Chronicles are excellent examples of this cycle of sin, repentance, and restoration. Good and bad are chronicled and depicted, as any historical should be. You'll get no revisionist history in the Bible.
@Gocavs1990 Who am I to justify or deny it? You're asking the wrong person that question. Again, you have this image of a God that can only be God of sunshine and happy thoughts. Plagues and wasting diseases were used by God as a means of punishment. The people were forewarned. It doesn't matter what I think. That was how God disciplined His people in those times.
In your job, have you ever stolen, knowing that you would be fired, but did it anyway? Would you ask, why was I fired?
@Gocavs1990 The Old Testament - History of the Israelite/Hebrew people. The New Testament- guide for Christ like living, prophesy about the end of time., etc. There are good precepts in the Old Testament. Psalms, Proverbs. But we are given discernment to know that we don't kill our neighbor for mowing his lawn on Saturday.
50% of American voters-popular opinion polls mean what exactly?
@Gocavs1990 There are many things we don't today that they did back then. We don't bow to the ground before before our employers and call them 'master' and 'lord' like they did in those days. Try to use a little common sense and understand the differences between the culture of that time and culture of or times. Try to grasp the meaning of cultural differences.
@musclecarministry So you're saying religion is culturally bounded. Well I agree with you on that but it doesn't make sense. It means religion changes through time as we have seen. Yet God should be the absolute truth so you can not bend his rules. You justify the cruelties of your god as necessary, I personally can't think of a situation where it would be necessary to kill innocent children and rape young girls but you might have another opinion.
@Gocavs1990 Sure, no Christians are being persecuted and killed in the world, are they now. The fact you came in here and attacked me is the very sort of persecution you accuse Christians of. You can hide it behind any thin veil and call it what you will, but as Bill Parcells says, you are what you are. You're full of anger and hatred.
I love people. I love ministry. There's no love in you. That's just sad.
@musclecarministry So what God did to millions of innocent people is compensated by his refusal to destroy another town? Wow, I guess when Bin Laden refuses next time to fly a plane into the empire state building that makes him a pretty good man. You think it's right what God has let happen to Job simply to test his faith? Wow, your thought process is mindblowing.
@Gocavs1990 Um, excuse me, but those people were not innocent. They were warned, they warned again, and then they judged and punished.
While doing your keyword searches in online Bible sites, did you read the END of Job? Did you read the entire book? In the end, Job is rewarded and given more than he had to start with. It doesn't matter what I think because God does not need my approval. But these things do happen to test and strengthen our faith. Bad things do happen to good people.
@Gocavs1990 Look, you came into this forum and picked this fight. Tell yourself whatever you want. Try reading the Bible again, if you ever have, but without the chip on your shoulder. Try an open minded approach. Go in understanding that you will not understand everything that's written. I don't understand it all.
@musclecarministry May I point to the many flaws in the bible (historical flaws, scientifically impossible flaws)?. The bible can in no way be the absolute truth although you would expect that from divine scripture. As a matter of fact, the bible is just a collection of all kinds of stories which have no chronological order. It's a mess. Many stories are plagiarized, stolen from other cultures myths. And I didn't pick this fight. You stated something that was false so I had to correct you.
@musclecarministry Your god has let as many as 3000 people get killed over a golden calf but as if that wasn't enough he also thought it was necessary to send a plague upon the remaining people. God also let Moses attack the medianites, they spared the women and children but Moses morals differ a bit from mine because this infuriated him and he told them that all boy children and all the women who weren't virgins had to be killed. The virgins they could keep alive for theirselves :S Pretty sick.
@Gocavs1990 The problem here is that you have this view of God in your mind, that if He exists (looking at this from your perspective), then He can only be a God of daisies, daffodils, and sunshine. God is a God of love. He's a God of patience. But He also a God of righteous anger and righteous wrath when people willfully sin against Him. He will judge and He will punish as He deems appropriate.
Interesting that you use a Bible you don't believe to argue against God whom you believe in.
@musclecarministry I'm just using the bible to show how barbaric your religion truly is. I don't call killing 3000 people over a golden calf righteous wrath. Actually the idiotic stories in the bible contribute to the fact that I'm an atheist. The bible is a ridiculous book and religion in general is retarded. Evolution theory has proved the adam and eve story wrong, therefore there can't be original sin and therefore we didn't need salvation: christianity is proven to be a lie.
@Gocavs1990 Then prove it. I'm calling you out. Show your evidence or step aside. The real problem is that you don't believe in being punished when you get caught in the act. Punishment was extreme then, but it may have been necessary.
Here's another observation. You believe in God. But His past history in dealing with rebellion and evil does not fit your view of what you think God should be. God does not look the other way, as you seem to think He should.
@musclecarministry For the record, I totally don't believe in God. It's absurd. I'm just using the scripture of your religion to show you how idiotic your religion actually is. I don't believe in gods, souls, miracles....Simply because there's no reason to believe it exists. If God is all powerful, why would he feel the need to be praised all the time and why would he feel the need to interfere with his created earth constantly? If this life is a test why would he interfere in the process?
@Gocavs1990 Really then, why do get so emotionally worked up? If it is fiction as you claim, then you should not get any more worked up over the content of the Bible than you would over "Tale of Two Cities".
God does not need our praise.
You complain that He lets people die in earthquakes, then accuse Him of interfering. Can't have it both ways. Can't tell Him to butt out by denying Him and complain when He doesn't meet your expectations.
@musclecarministry That's a misconception of yours. Religion claims an absolute truth, it claims a monopoly on the truth, one that can't be criticized cause it's divine. That makes the bible something way different than "Tale of Two Cities". He doesn't need to meet any expectations. God is man made yet people, like you, think he's real and that is dangerous.
@Gocavs1990 It your assertion that the Bible is a work of fiction. Nice but failed attempt at redirection.
There are a number of world religions that make claims about truth. Or they claim truth is relative, or they claim that life is a never ending search for truth, or some such. Jesus said, "I am the truth"
You still can't get your head around the definition of religion. You still haven't answered, why does this bother you and what is it to you what people believe in? Why the anger?
@musclecarministry If you'd follow a star at the sky you'd be walking in circles, there are no talking snakes, luke traces back joseph's ancestry to king david in 28 generations whereas mathew speaks of 41 generations with nearly no overlap. Mathew and Luke tried to write a book that would fullfil the prophecy of micah that's why they messed around. Just a few facts why I say the bible is a work of fiction. I did get my head around the definition of religion.
@Gocavs1990 Dangerous? With such a statement, you've tipped your hand. For something to be dangerous, it has to be threatening.. It \seems then that your real agenda is to quash all thought that is in conflict with your beliefs. Personally, if you choose to believe in God or not is your business. Jesus told Peter to let unbelievers be, to let them choose not to believe. You don't believe. So be it.. The real danger is the way we're being openly attacked and persecuted for our beliefs.
@musclecarministry I'll tell you why. It's because there are still jobs in office in certain states not available for atheists. Many atheists have to remain in closet atheists because of their environment. People are flying planes in buildings in the name of a God. Abortiondoctors are being killed by religious fundamentalists. Homosexuals are being persecuted. Religion is a feeding ground for religious extremists and because they claim to know the absolute truth they feel nothing can stop them.
@Gocavs1990 By the way, He's your God too. The issue here seems to be one of accountability. I think you have a problem with accountability. The measures used by God in the Old Testament so seem harsh, extreme, and brutal. But we did not live in those time and (opinion) that may have been the only way God could get their attention. It pained God to do those things. I didn't enjoy disciplining my children, but it was necessary. I don't beat them with a rod, but we do discipline them.
@musclecarministry You call whiping out entire towns "disciplining". I call it mass murder. Disciplining is something you do to correct somebody's behavior. This is not what god did, god ordered mass murders on unsuspecting children. Don't you see that your God is a gigantic hypocrite? He tells people that thou shall not murder and stuff like that yet he's to be held accountable for the murder of millions. The bible says God is merciful but from the stories about him you can't tell.
@musclecarministry According to Leviticus 20 you the death penalty is to be given when you commit the following "crimes": cursing your parents, committing adultery, making love to your stepmother or daughter in law, homosexuality, marrying a woman and her daughter, bestiality and of course for WORKING ON THE SABBATH. So next time you see your neighbor mowing his lawn on a sunday I assume you wouldn't shoot him but if we were to get our morals from the bible you'd probably have to.
@Gocavs1990 Of course I'm not going to kill my neighbor because I'm not duly authorized to carry out such judgment. The Mosaic Law was handed down to the Israelites and was enforced by the elders and Levites and other appointed servants. Under our law in the United States, I'd be guilty of murder. Why does there seem to be a conflict? In the New Testament, we are commanded to submit ourselves to the governing authorities. In Old Testament times, Mosaic Law was the authority of the day.
@musclecarministry They killed people over a golden calf. Come on are you serious? You can't possibly agree with that. Do you believe in talking snakes by the way?
@Gocavs1990 It does not matter what I think. There are many instances in the Bible when God's judgment and punishment seem brutal and harsh. If I were alive back then and I was thinking of committing some of these sins, I think it would make me think twice.
We're looking at the world through OUR window of time, the seventy or so years we live in it. The world then may have been so brutal that such extreme measures were necessary. That's not Biblical. That's only my opinion.
@Gocavs1990 This thought just occurred to me. If atheism isn't a religion, then why are you so adamantly determined to sway people toward your beliefs? (er uh, disbeliefs, whatever....) Deny it if you will, but that's what you're trying to do. Religions of the world do that same thing.
@musclecarministry So when you try to pursuade people to believe in your beliefs it's religion? That seems pretty narrow minded. If the democratic party pursuades people to believe a certain thing is best for the people and the country it doesn't mean the democratic party is a religion is it? When you told your kids the tooth fairy isn't real are you a religion? I'm just trying to get people to see that god doesn't exist and religion is poisonous and wrong.
@Gocavs1990 "I'm just trying to get people to see that god doesn't exist and religion is poisonous and wrong." That's zealousness of religious fervor. You're doing exactly what you deny doing.
Yes, for some people their political parties do become like a religion to them. Go to a conservative message board and insult Rush Limbaugh, then sit back and see what happens.
People can be religious about a lot of things that have nothing to do with Christ, Buddha, Muhammad, etc.
@musclecarministry After having said all this about the bible I gotta hand it to you: jesus was one I mostly agree on. Jesus, unlike you, rejected former scripture (like his remark on the sabbath). One of the things I don't agree on though is the story of original sin. Because we know about evolution now we can surely say the adam and eve story didn't happen. Because this didn't happen there can't be original sin and therefore we can't have needed the salvation.
@Gocavs1990 It would seem that some of these posts are being removed by the admin of Youtube. It's time to wrap up.
Bombers of abortion clinics are murderers acting on their own. This is not condoned by me, my church, or any good Christian. End of discussion on that.
See the EEOC about discrimination. But, if you disclose in an interview that you're a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, whatever, interview over, applicant disqualified. .
Don't blame the institution for the actions of a few nuts.
@musclecarministry A few nuts? Religion is what allows them to act this way. You fail to see the actions of the christian taliban in your own country. I'm not saying everybody who is religious will do such a thing but it's insane to write off all the ignorant things that are happening in the world cause of religion now as the actions of a few nuts. What you said about mathew and luke is not right by the way, check the bloodline yourself. They messed with it to "fulfill" the prophecy.
@Gocavs1990 Matthew's genealogy is the royal line through Joseph. ,Luke's the blood line through Mary.
Both are presented to establish Jesus as the rightful heir to the kingdom. Reference-Woodrow Kroll.
Again, Youtube is beginning to pull some of these posts. Time to end it before we both get barred from this site.
You're not ready for this conversation anyway because you fail to see your own contradictions. You want tolerance you are unwilling to give, fairness you are unwilling to show.
I do not personally share in 100 percent of what EJ was saying throughout his story. I do however admire his passion and strength through his battle with cancer. You don't have to believe in the religious aspects which he speaks of, but it appears it has made his life better and has given the man peace, I'm very happy for him. A true class act in sports. Been watching EJ ever since I started watching basketball when I was a kid.
Praise God for EJ's courage. I wish there were more like him in the media. Many Christians shy away from public profession of faith because of the some of the attitudes in these comments. I for one will be bold and will never back down from profession Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
Religion is man made. Do not confuse religion with Christianity. Buddhism is religion. Hinduism is religion. Atheism is religion, the religion of disbelief. Christianity is a way of life.
@musclecarministry Atheism is not a religion. It's simply the absence of a belief in god. Christianity certainly is a religion and a religion can affect the way you live so in that sense it's a way of life. If you really think atheism is a religion then you're an idiot.
a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe:
a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects:
something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience:
I'd say atheism fits any of those definitions. Absence of belief is humanly impossible. We all believe in something. We simply replace one belief with another.
@musclecarministry That's right. So atheism is not a religion. We have no specific set of beliefs and practices we generally agree upon except for the absence of a god. We also don't have a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe except for that there is no belief in a god.
@musclecarministry You just don't seem to understand. Atheism doesn't know a doctrine. Would you say you're absense of belief in santa clause bonds you with all others who don't believe in santa clause and thus so form a religious group? No. You just all happen to reject the belief in santa clause. Atheism is just the rejection of belief in god. For the rest there's no uniform set of rules or philosophy. Ideas of how the world started/will end are accidental. The only rule is: there is no god.
@Gocavs1990 It just comes down to a matter of semantics. You say toMAYto, I say toMAHto. But this discussion sort of strayed off on a tangent. Religion is man made doctrine. That was my point. Even with only one rule, you do have a doctrine. That's why I included atheism in my example.
Religion existed before Christ walked the earth. That is of God and not of man. Man did not bring about His birth or create his ministry. That's why you cannot confuse Christianity with religion.
@musclecarministry It's not even certain christ even truly existed. And christianity is religion, no matter how you like to twist the facts you can't change it. Christianity is a religion and atheism isn't. But knowing that you are an american of older age I guess you can't grasp the idea that there just isn't a god. You're from the old school.
@Gocavs1990 Not twisting facts, just citing Biblical truth. But even if you don't believe the Bible, you cannot refute my testimony of how I came to know God and that is what galls atheists most. I know what my life was like before, and how God changed it.
But being an enlightened new age sort, you're supposed to be open to new ideas. So try this. Just pray and ask God, that if He is there, to reveal himself to you in some way. No commitment needed. Just be open minded as you profess to be.
@musclecarministry I've been raised a catholic, I've believed in god until about age 12 or something like that. That's when I started to think a bit more critical about things. Most people hold the bible to be metaphorical stories but it seems you believe the bible is real. Did you know many things in the bible can't have happened? Like the story how christ was born for example? Or the ark of noah? Please don't tell me you believe that really happened.
@Gocavs1990 By the way, the age card, it goes back in your pocket. I know as many young Christians as those my own age. Don't even go there with the old school bull.
God does exist, He just doesn't exist in you. I know this from the hostile tone of your comments. This is common in most atheists I encounter, that, along with extreme levels of anger . I've treated you much better. Just try that prayer. Then be open as the new age thought process commands you.
@musclecarministry . I can get a little heated up in discussions, certainly when it's about the idiocy of religion. Nonetheless I feel I'm a good person. I give soccer practice to kids, give money for good causes and I mostly treat people I would want them to treat me. Don't say all atheists are hostile. They just disagree with you on the religion thing. I have pretty much the same discussions with my muslim mate on an afternoon and drink a beer with him in the evening ;)
@Gocavs1990 Not only so, but you contradicted yourself in your own reply. "religion can affect the way you live so in that sense it's a way of life."
I would say that an atheist's choice to BELIEVE there is no God would serve to steer the course of that person's life, or, their way of life as you put it.
But the various religions of the world are what grew out of Christian faith, what with their man made doctrines. Christianity influences those doctrines. They are mutually exclusive.
@musclecarministry I wasn't saying that was a definition of religion. I was agreeing with you that christianity can be a way of life but at the same time it's also a religion. Atheism is NOT a religion, you picked those definitions but they only prove that I'm right and you're wrong.
If you're a parent, you give your kids good things, but you also discipline them. From a sort of "objective" point of view, your kids could think that it's illogical that you give them both good and bad.
The point is that what God does is always for our good and His glory. It might look good or bad to us, but since we have a limited, finite perspective, we tend to think good is what we like and bad is what we don't. But that's not how God sees it.
I like EJ from Inside the NBA. All I can say is I'm glad he doesn't make his religious orientation overtly obvious during the shows.
While I commend him for surviving cancer, I lost some respect for him for being this religious. Religion is a crutch. Good things happen because of god, and bad things happen also because of god? That's purely illogical, but to each his own.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i didnt know about this, but i still hate ernie as a commentator, he is so lame with the 3 black dudes. I like how no one raised there hand in the beginning to, twas funny;
Ok Earnie we love ya man and may God Bless ya but it's God that will bless you not Jesus Jesus is the SON of God and ppl need to realize he is the example of how to be a perfect sinless human so you get your blessings through God not Jesus
well, Jesus is the Son of God, you're right. But he is not only God. There are countless places in Scripture, in fact, where He was persecuted for claiming such divinity. (example: Mark 2:1-2, Jesus forgives sins -- Who can forgive sin but God?) He was also regarded as God by those who wrote of him historically (John 1)
There is much to be said about Jesus divinity; it is a standard doctrine in all Christian churches. There are books written on the topic, let alone the Biblical teaching.
EJ is such a very genuine and classy guy...that is why he is my favorite announcers and even tho i am not religious...his speech is touching and you can really tell how honest and passionate of a person he is.
I remember watching Inside the NBA from the 90s when EJ had a lot of hair to when his lymph nodes were swollen and something didn't look right to where he is now. I'm constantly wavering on the issue of Christ but hearing and seeing things like Ernie's speech lean me in the direction that I believe I'll ultimately end up at.
This is really good and classy. I really like him, he's one of my favorite commentators also. I wish he would've talked more about his cancer experience though, I had cancer this past year when I was 16, and it's living hell. I wish he would've talked more about his cancer experience than his talk about God and what God has done to him. Both are good things to talk about, but I wanted to hear more about his cancer.
its awesome to see these ppl who dont have fear to come up on a stage and state there their faith in God, its great to see ppl who aren't afraid to say that they praised God and gave Him all the glory in everything they do
This is the real EJ folks. Not saying that he's not being himself on TNT, but I just gained so much respect for this man to not only give a testimony about his having cancer, but to talk about God in today's society. He is carrying out God's command for us which is to spread the gospel. This is a powerful message, and I literally cried as I was praying with Ernie. May God Bless you Ernie Johnson, I love your work and I love your character
God created the scientist who saved this wonderful man. God have a plan for everyone. 8"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:8 (NIV)
It's almost surreal to hear him speak about his own issues! I mean, even as an anouncer, he's more of an expert than a critic. He never seems to have an opinion on things and players.
Although I usually find the Jesus related topics mostly pathetic, EJ reallt just proves how classy he is.
Ernie Johnson continues to be one of the classiest acts in sports. For those who think he is "preaching", he is at an Athletes in Action event, not "Inside the NBA". AIA is a Christian organization, yet I believe the excellence of his work on TNT speaks just as loudly. May he live long and be cancer free and keep up the good work. I don't care for the NBA, but I tivo TNT. It's some of the freshest entertainment out there.
ernie johnson and steve kerr are my favorite nba commentators by far, and I never knew ernie was a christian. right now I have a lump under my tongue that's been there for a month now and I plan to call the doctor tomorrow to get a biopsy, so I searched youtube for some cancer stories. ernie johnson really helps remind me of what's really important in life. great words of encouragement. thank God.
This is the most BS speech, stop the preaching, just be thankful you survived cancer. Don't make yourself sound like a religious weirdo. God I will never look at NBA on TNT the same.
Excuse me?! I survived cancer, an dI still have it and I will probably have it my whole life. And some day it will probably kill me. Maybe he is some kind of religous freak, but he has the curage to get up there and tell everyone about his cancer story. That is no BS. I don't see you getting up in front of thousands of people and telling a very personal story. So just remember, that is no BS that is courage.
Thank you Ernie...I am a big fan of you and the crew and I did notice something wasn't looking right when you were on the air. I thought about it, but didn't investigate until tonight. @everybody who says god bless him and things like that: how stupid are you? God first gives him cancer and then you want him to bless him? God gave him CANCER if god was real. That shit is crazy.

@Gocavs1990 There are many things we don't today that they did back then. We don't bow to the ground before before our employers and call them 'master' and 'lord' like they did in those days. Try to use a little common sense and understand the differences between the culture of that time and culture of or times. Try to grasp the meaning of cultural differences.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry So you're saying religion is culturally bounded. Well I agree with you on that but it doesn't make sense. It means religion changes through time as we have seen. Yet God should be the absolute truth so you can not bend his rules. You justify the cruelties of your god as necessary, I personally can't think of a situation where it would be necessary to kill innocent children and rape young girls but you might have another opinion.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Sure, no Christians are being persecuted and killed in the world, are they now. The fact you came in here and attacked me is the very sort of persecution you accuse Christians of. You can hide it behind any thin veil and call it what you will, but as Bill Parcells says, you are what you are. You're full of anger and hatred.
I love people. I love ministry. There's no love in you. That's just sad.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry So what God did to millions of innocent people is compensated by his refusal to destroy another town? Wow, I guess when Bin Laden refuses next time to fly a plane into the empire state building that makes him a pretty good man. You think it's right what God has let happen to Job simply to test his faith? Wow, your thought process is mindblowing.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Um, excuse me, but those people were not innocent. They were warned, they warned again, and then they judged and punished.
While doing your keyword searches in online Bible sites, did you read the END of Job? Did you read the entire book? In the end, Job is rewarded and given more than he had to start with. It doesn't matter what I think because God does not need my approval. But these things do happen to test and strengthen our faith. Bad things do happen to good people.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Look, you came into this forum and picked this fight. Tell yourself whatever you want. Try reading the Bible again, if you ever have, but without the chip on your shoulder. Try an open minded approach. Go in understanding that you will not understand everything that's written. I don't understand it all.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry May I point to the many flaws in the bible (historical flaws, scientifically impossible flaws)?. The bible can in no way be the absolute truth although you would expect that from divine scripture. As a matter of fact, the bible is just a collection of all kinds of stories which have no chronological order. It's a mess. Many stories are plagiarized, stolen from other cultures myths. And I didn't pick this fight. You stated something that was false so I had to correct you.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@musclecarministry Your god has let as many as 3000 people get killed over a golden calf but as if that wasn't enough he also thought it was necessary to send a plague upon the remaining people. God also let Moses attack the medianites, they spared the women and children but Moses morals differ a bit from mine because this infuriated him and he told them that all boy children and all the women who weren't virgins had to be killed. The virgins they could keep alive for theirselves :S Pretty sick.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 The problem here is that you have this view of God in your mind, that if He exists (looking at this from your perspective), then He can only be a God of daisies, daffodils, and sunshine. God is a God of love. He's a God of patience. But He also a God of righteous anger and righteous wrath when people willfully sin against Him. He will judge and He will punish as He deems appropriate.
Interesting that you use a Bible you don't believe to argue against God whom you believe in.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry I'm just using the bible to show how barbaric your religion truly is. I don't call killing 3000 people over a golden calf righteous wrath. Actually the idiotic stories in the bible contribute to the fact that I'm an atheist. The bible is a ridiculous book and religion in general is retarded. Evolution theory has proved the adam and eve story wrong, therefore there can't be original sin and therefore we didn't need salvation: christianity is proven to be a lie.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Then prove it. I'm calling you out. Show your evidence or step aside. The real problem is that you don't believe in being punished when you get caught in the act. Punishment was extreme then, but it may have been necessary.
Here's another observation. You believe in God. But His past history in dealing with rebellion and evil does not fit your view of what you think God should be. God does not look the other way, as you seem to think He should.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry For the record, I totally don't believe in God. It's absurd. I'm just using the scripture of your religion to show you how idiotic your religion actually is. I don't believe in gods, souls, miracles....Simply because there's no reason to believe it exists. If God is all powerful, why would he feel the need to be praised all the time and why would he feel the need to interfere with his created earth constantly? If this life is a test why would he interfere in the process?
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Really then, why do get so emotionally worked up? If it is fiction as you claim, then you should not get any more worked up over the content of the Bible than you would over "Tale of Two Cities".
God does not need our praise.
You complain that He lets people die in earthquakes, then accuse Him of interfering. Can't have it both ways. Can't tell Him to butt out by denying Him and complain when He doesn't meet your expectations.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry That's a misconception of yours. Religion claims an absolute truth, it claims a monopoly on the truth, one that can't be criticized cause it's divine. That makes the bible something way different than "Tale of Two Cities". He doesn't need to meet any expectations. God is man made yet people, like you, think he's real and that is dangerous.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 It your assertion that the Bible is a work of fiction. Nice but failed attempt at redirection.
There are a number of world religions that make claims about truth. Or they claim truth is relative, or they claim that life is a never ending search for truth, or some such. Jesus said, "I am the truth"
You still can't get your head around the definition of religion. You still haven't answered, why does this bother you and what is it to you what people believe in? Why the anger?
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry If you'd follow a star at the sky you'd be walking in circles, there are no talking snakes, luke traces back joseph's ancestry to king david in 28 generations whereas mathew speaks of 41 generations with nearly no overlap. Mathew and Luke tried to write a book that would fullfil the prophecy of micah that's why they messed around. Just a few facts why I say the bible is a work of fiction. I did get my head around the definition of religion.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Dangerous? With such a statement, you've tipped your hand. For something to be dangerous, it has to be threatening.. It \seems then that your real agenda is to quash all thought that is in conflict with your beliefs. Personally, if you choose to believe in God or not is your business. Jesus told Peter to let unbelievers be, to let them choose not to believe. You don't believe. So be it.. The real danger is the way we're being openly attacked and persecuted for our beliefs.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry I'll tell you why. It's because there are still jobs in office in certain states not available for atheists. Many atheists have to remain in closet atheists because of their environment. People are flying planes in buildings in the name of a God. Abortiondoctors are being killed by religious fundamentalists. Homosexuals are being persecuted. Religion is a feeding ground for religious extremists and because they claim to know the absolute truth they feel nothing can stop them.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 By the way, He's your God too. The issue here seems to be one of accountability. I think you have a problem with accountability. The measures used by God in the Old Testament so seem harsh, extreme, and brutal. But we did not live in those time and (opinion) that may have been the only way God could get their attention. It pained God to do those things. I didn't enjoy disciplining my children, but it was necessary. I don't beat them with a rod, but we do discipline them.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry You call whiping out entire towns "disciplining". I call it mass murder. Disciplining is something you do to correct somebody's behavior. This is not what god did, god ordered mass murders on unsuspecting children. Don't you see that your God is a gigantic hypocrite? He tells people that thou shall not murder and stuff like that yet he's to be held accountable for the murder of millions. The bible says God is merciful but from the stories about him you can't tell.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@musclecarministry According to Leviticus 20 you the death penalty is to be given when you commit the following "crimes": cursing your parents, committing adultery, making love to your stepmother or daughter in law, homosexuality, marrying a woman and her daughter, bestiality and of course for WORKING ON THE SABBATH. So next time you see your neighbor mowing his lawn on a sunday I assume you wouldn't shoot him but if we were to get our morals from the bible you'd probably have to.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Of course I'm not going to kill my neighbor because I'm not duly authorized to carry out such judgment. The Mosaic Law was handed down to the Israelites and was enforced by the elders and Levites and other appointed servants. Under our law in the United States, I'd be guilty of murder. Why does there seem to be a conflict? In the New Testament, we are commanded to submit ourselves to the governing authorities. In Old Testament times, Mosaic Law was the authority of the day.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry They killed people over a golden calf. Come on are you serious? You can't possibly agree with that. Do you believe in talking snakes by the way?
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 It does not matter what I think. There are many instances in the Bible when God's judgment and punishment seem brutal and harsh. If I were alive back then and I was thinking of committing some of these sins, I think it would make me think twice.
We're looking at the world through OUR window of time, the seventy or so years we live in it. The world then may have been so brutal that such extreme measures were necessary. That's not Biblical. That's only my opinion.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 This thought just occurred to me. If atheism isn't a religion, then why are you so adamantly determined to sway people toward your beliefs? (er uh, disbeliefs, whatever....) Deny it if you will, but that's what you're trying to do. Religions of the world do that same thing.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry So when you try to pursuade people to believe in your beliefs it's religion? That seems pretty narrow minded. If the democratic party pursuades people to believe a certain thing is best for the people and the country it doesn't mean the democratic party is a religion is it? When you told your kids the tooth fairy isn't real are you a religion? I'm just trying to get people to see that god doesn't exist and religion is poisonous and wrong.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 "I'm just trying to get people to see that god doesn't exist and religion is poisonous and wrong." That's zealousness of religious fervor. You're doing exactly what you deny doing.
Yes, for some people their political parties do become like a religion to them. Go to a conservative message board and insult Rush Limbaugh, then sit back and see what happens.
People can be religious about a lot of things that have nothing to do with Christ, Buddha, Muhammad, etc.
musclecarministry 1 year ago

But, if you disclose in an interview that you're a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, whatever, interview over, applicant disqualified. .
Don't blame the institution for the actions of a few nuts.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry A few nuts? Religion is what allows them to act this way. You fail to see the actions of the christian taliban in your own country. I'm not saying everybody who is religious will do such a thing but it's insane to write off all the ignorant things that are happening in the world cause of religion now as the actions of a few nuts. What you said about mathew and luke is not right by the way, check the bloodline yourself. They messed with it to "fulfill" the prophecy.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Matthew's genealogy is the royal line through Joseph. ,Luke's the blood line through Mary.
Both are presented to establish Jesus as the rightful heir to the kingdom. Reference-Woodrow Kroll.
Again, Youtube is beginning to pull some of these posts. Time to end it before we both get barred from this site.

You don't have to believe in the religious aspects which he speaks of, but it appears it has made his life better and has given the man peace, I'm very happy for him. A true class act in sports. Been watching EJ ever since I started watching basketball when I was a kid.

@musclecarministry Atheism is not a religion. It's simply the absence of a belief in god. Christianity certainly is a religion and a religion can affect the way you live so in that sense it's a way of life. If you really think atheism is a religion then you're an idiot.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Religion:
a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe:
a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects:
something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience:
I'd say atheism fits any of those definitions. Absence of belief is humanly impossible. We all believe in something. We simply replace one belief with another.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry That's right. So atheism is not a religion. We have no specific set of beliefs and practices we generally agree upon except for the absence of a god. We also don't have a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe except for that there is no belief in a god.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@musclecarministry You just don't seem to understand. Atheism doesn't know a doctrine. Would you say you're absense of belief in santa clause bonds you with all others who don't believe in santa clause and thus so form a religious group? No. You just all happen to reject the belief in santa clause. Atheism is just the rejection of belief in god. For the rest there's no uniform set of rules or philosophy. Ideas of how the world started/will end are accidental. The only rule is: there is no god.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 It just comes down to a matter of semantics. You say toMAYto, I say toMAHto. But this discussion sort of strayed off on a tangent. Religion is man made doctrine. That was my point. Even with only one rule, you do have a doctrine. That's why I included atheism in my example.
Religion existed before Christ walked the earth. That is of God and not of man. Man did not bring about His birth or create his ministry. That's why you cannot confuse Christianity with religion.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry It's not even certain christ even truly existed. And christianity is religion, no matter how you like to twist the facts you can't change it. Christianity is a religion and atheism isn't. But knowing that you are an american of older age I guess you can't grasp the idea that there just isn't a god. You're from the old school.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 Not twisting facts, just citing Biblical truth. But even if you don't believe the Bible, you cannot refute my testimony of how I came to know God and that is what galls atheists most. I know what my life was like before, and how God changed it.
But being an enlightened new age sort, you're supposed to be open to new ideas. So try this. Just pray and ask God, that if He is there, to reveal himself to you in some way. No commitment needed. Just be open minded as you profess to be.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry I've been raised a catholic, I've believed in god until about age 12 or something like that. That's when I started to think a bit more critical about things. Most people hold the bible to be metaphorical stories but it seems you believe the bible is real. Did you know many things in the bible can't have happened? Like the story how christ was born for example? Or the ark of noah? Please don't tell me you believe that really happened.
Gocavs1990 1 year ago
@Gocavs1990 By the way, the age card, it goes back in your pocket. I know as many young Christians as those my own age. Don't even go there with the old school bull.
God does exist, He just doesn't exist in you. I know this from the hostile tone of your comments. This is common in most atheists I encounter, that, along with extreme levels of anger . I've treated you much better. Just try that prayer. Then be open as the new age thought process commands you.
musclecarministry 1 year ago

They are mutually exclusive.
musclecarministry 1 year ago
@musclecarministry I wasn't saying that was a definition of religion. I was agreeing with you that christianity can be a way of life but at the same time it's also a religion. Atheism is NOT a religion, you picked those definitions but they only prove that I'm right and you're wrong.

@m0nkeydump--
If you're a parent, you give your kids good things, but you also discipline them.

That's purely illogical, but to each his own.

linkboy144144 2 years ago
well, Jesus is the Son of God, you're right.
