  • Ben is great. Those of us around D.C. have known about him since he was 12 years old. He's a gifted young guy and Bret is right, he's part of a whole crew of young jazz musicians who will keep this music going well into the 21st Century. God bless them all!!!

  • @stevezurier We're going to be hearing a lot from Ben and Christian Sands and many others. Look for more features on young musicians coming up here n the JVG channel

  • Lol...Basically, the EXACT same thing happened to me: heard it in the car, got blown away and went straight home to buy it

  • @BrainFreezeDude Ah, the power of this music!

  • Your blog seems self-indulgent to me. There is something overly egotistical about your approach. My first impression is, who cares?

  • We did a gig together playing his music a couple weeks ago in North Carolina. I love Ben!

  • @TeXas10er You are the lucky one!

  • Bret, he's one of my favourite bassists. I saw him live with the Jacky Terrasson trio at Yoshi's SF. The crowd including me were laughing as we hadn't heard anyone treat a bass like that before. He is very melodic maybe because he played the piano.

You will luv him on Jacky's album PUSH - his solos on Gaux Girl and My Church are epic.

  • YES Ben is Swingin as always!!!!

  • Thanks for the recomendation, I always love finding great new music, especially when it is a fellow bassist!

  • Personally I always found it hard to appreciate the double bass. Sometimes I feel like I can barely notice it in the background when I'm listening to trio unless I am using quality set of speakers or headphones.

  • @BizzMarki Blame it on the MP3, esp. since most are encoded below 192 in the iTunes store.

  • lol plastic surgery?

societies obsession with looking young is very problematic...

and thanks for the heads up on the record!

  • @Iker888 I'm not serious about that. I intend on going out, the way I came in, imperfections and all.

  • @JazzVideoGuy I was hoping it was a joke:P

  • Yeah, Ben grew up with a drummer I play with in Philly - Mike De Castro. Great record!

  • @joshlawrencejazz I'm glad you agree!

  • I got this album the other day. All I can say is that it's fucking quality! (I'm not as eloquent as Brett)

  • @dwnbowden This music is real deal.

  • I appreciate your commitment to making these daily videos. Thanks, keep them coming and we'll keep watching.

  • @BoxCubeSquare I can't turn back now.

  • For what it's worth I just bought it on eMusic. I also heard a tenor sax player out here in SF that blew me away. His name is Francis Wong and plays in the Anthony Brown Asian American Orchestra. I saw him in a quartet at a free concert in SF. Incorporated some of the great sounds of the 60's free jazz movement on his horn. Check him out

  • @leskromer Francis Wong, another young giant in the making. They're everywhere!
