Windir was also an epic and special band for me.Being half ukranian and russian myself,his music is familiar to me, it's very soulful music, also folk instruments,like acccordeon sound very great in mixture with black metal riffs and fast drums.Valfar is true identity and nice person. I think the problem with Manowar is you can't take them seriously. Windir, on the other hand, has nothing really to hold against them. Valfar was a genius, a brilliant composer, and a great man. Nothing bad can be said about him at all, or Windir as a whole.

Valfar, or Terje Bakken, was the singer & founder of Windir.

Valfar was the singer and songwriter who also founded Windir. He died of hypothermia b/c he was caught in a blizzard while walking through the Norweigan countryside. He was the brains behind Windir who in my opinion are the best BM band ever. Get ALL their albums. Following his death, the remnants of Windir and a couple others formed a different sounding band named Vreid, whom you should also check out.

Comparing Windir to Dimmu is like comparing gold to shit. Dimmu began to suck once they started singing in english. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was the last decent thing the put out. Could you please explain that a little further? 'cause last time I checked Windir was a black metal band inspired by viking metal! Your music doesn't have to sound like it was recorded in your garage with a tape-recorder to be black metal if that's what you think! Windir is just as much black metal as for example Darkthrone, old Ulver, Gorgorth etc.

By your contention, bands like Moonsorrow & Nachtfalke should be considered Black Metal, too, as they have a base within the genre (btw, Enslaved broke away from Black Metal over 10 years ago...there's a reason the sub-genre is called Viking/Pagan Metal, you know).
