amazing memories, drove it through the fields of northern Bavaria in the early 70's reached 45 mph...awesome till my breaks gave out going down a hill, tried stopping it by hitting a tree, yeah right...
As I look at this old girl, I can hear our TC telling me to stop. Our gunner Freddie is locating the target. Our loader Maurice is ready to load her on command. I can hear the hum of the turbochargers in the pouring down rain. I can feel the warmth of the exhaust of the tank in front of me in convoy. I know every compartment and grease fitting on her. I can pull the pack in the dark in a snowstorm. Old memories of an old soldier.
I drove an M60A1E1 at Ft. Knox in my AIT training in 1973. 11-Echo. Halfway through training I was 'volunteered' for 11-Delta, Recon Scout Specialist. We also drove the M113 and the M114. I remember the M114 as a nimble bugger.
I crewed an M60A1E3 in the early 80's with the Marine Corps, and I have to say that some of my fondest memories are from those days. The camaraderie with my crew and the absolute thrill of being 18 or 19 years old, running this nearly 60 ton battle wagon were some of the finest days of my life.

Sweet. I'm an old 19E/19K from the early 80's and I've got a soft spot for the 'A1's :)

I like American tank M1A2 indeed pose a threat. I know the Soviet 125mm shells break through M60A1 tank as the cardboard box.

That box wouldnt last 20 min in a modern battlefield. A single 12 mm round will take it out.
