He is definitely an artworld guy, else how did he get shows at Whitney, Barbican and Lisson? The media interventions are fantastically boring, his Photoshop gradient stuff idiotically dumb. An endearing guy, but this stuff is moronic.
i just don't entirely understand why art can't justify itself? its up the artist how much he reveals and as said, up the viewer to decide how they percieve it. personally, i like the mystery attached to the works!
and i believe bullshit is part of being an artist haha im a fine art student and blagging seems part of the course, even the lectureres do it.
I dunno.. I think I might agree if his work was a bit more serious in what he is trying to say with it. I definitely appreciate humor in art, but I don't see humor as an end in itself. I think there has to be something more, and his work could easily go there, but it just doesn't seem to. Its more clever than it is intelligent, which is a problem for me.
@Estragon17 I see his work as being intelligent because everything he does involves physical manifestations affecting media. Cory had Dazed and Confuesed redubbed by Indian voice actors and his email being continually cycled are some examples of choice in interactive media.
My teacher Peer Bode also mentioned that Cory follows a musical score with a lot of his work so he puts thought into any sound or song he incorporates.
Yes, but what does any of it actually say? Does it actually have any kind of, for lack of a better word, message, or is it just sort of flailing around with how he can look like he is saying something without saying anything too specific.
What this is is just reflecting on technology and how little people know about communications. Everyone plays Mario and uses email and watches movies, but mostly how media is made is unkown to most people. This is just my interpretation...just becasue this is entertaining doesn't make it not art. And although it's all commercial property Cory is reclaiming media as art by stripping it of its consumer appeal and leaving behind raw analog and digital spirit.
@Estragon17 maybe he doesn't want to say anything with art? It seems redundant to make art say something when its easier to just speak it. Also its completely authoritative for him to dictate how we should interpret his work.
Actually his bullshit is the art. Where as some artists make bullshit and pass it for art he kinda just laughs and says it is bull shit, which then makes it an inside to every one. So really he is not so bull shit. I like some of the stuff, some of it is meh, but I mean he produces a ton of work you cant really fault the guy.
i respect and also admire how he shows his mistakes throughout his "art" and has inspired me to try methods that i cannot yet do but i hate his work, its absolutely terrible and the thing with the two mac's, i just dont understand why this is admired or especially featured in the tate gallery!

He's great...I saw a lecture by him and he just parodies all the electronic luxuries we have today with obscure humor...an excellent video artist.

@almanacofsleep
Well, thats only redundant if you consider forming grunts and ululations into actual words and sentences.

wow, this is really uninteresting work. i get the motivation, but not much intelligence or inspiration exhibited here.

Yeah, I wondered why the Tate was bothering with this stuff, too. Its not terrible, but it is certainly not THAT good.
Estragon17 2 years ago
@Estragon17 That's art though, some is good, most is bad. I've yet to be 'moved' by anything that the Tate has exhiited.... hope springs eternal!

Pixies's right.
Bullshit or not it is silly and you can see it.
There can be bad music and bad movie. There can also be bad art. You be the judge.

he doesn't come off as an ass to me.....silly work made me laugh, what's naughty about that?
"How much longer will bull-chit be "art" ?"
