Fantastic song. I don't agree with the lyrics listed for this song on all the lyrics sites though. I'm pretty sure the actual lyrics are "your trust lies broken" rather than "your choice lies broken"--listen closely.
no your wrong, The sisters of mercy came before The sisterhood and this is a Sisterhood song from the album Jihad, i have the entire sisters of mercy back catalogue and i have cds by the mission and the sisterhood, ive followed these bands since i was 15. im now 40. just enjoy the music and stop ya bickering, ffs
words are just dust in deserts of sound. One of my favourite sisters songs. I know its the sisterhood but A Eldritch wrote it so a sisters song in my eyes. Wrote the lyrics on my file at school sad I know but hey ho still makes me think. .
I agree with you soooo much. As if I did your post. I'm just 3 years older...I believe that emotional and stylish music like this could never fade! Just as the memories of our true selves...Cheers!!!

after little succes with the Sisterhood, andrew abandon the idea and with this appaling lady ,deciding to add sax solos to his songs ,resurected his new sisters' version.
When Andrew heard of the news, he decided to go a step ahead of them and launched himself an Ep with this name. Wayne and the other boys had then, to lauch their first Ep with the Name The Mission, (later because of copyright _The Mission UK) now the Mission.
Wayne and Craig invited the drummer from"Red Lorry Yellow Lorry( another Gothic band in London) to join them and had an intention to release something weith the name Sisterhood.
After releasing their first album "First and last and always" The band: Andrew Eldritch (vocals), Wayne Hussey (guitar), Craig Adams (bass) and their electric drums they called Dr. Avalanche had a split up in 1985.

I've been a fan for about 15 years and i think that Sisterhood came before Sisters of Mercy instead of the other way around. I used to have the SIsterhood-gift (cd) before it was stolen. Through youtube i found 'jihad' again at least. Looking for the version of 'colors' that was from that cd and not the later version released by Sisters of Mercy on (i think) Vision Thing?
In fact the Sisters of Mercy started in England way back in the very beginning of the 80's ,released some EP's ;one of them very successful _"the Repitile House" - the band :(Andrew Eldritch, Wayne Hussey, Craig Adams and their electric drums they called Dr. Avalanche.
When Wayne & Adam left in '85, they were calling themselves The Sisterhood but Eldritch thought it was too close to The Sisters and also it's what the fans were called.
Eldritch put out Gift to claim the rights to use the name The Sisterhood as was ruled in the courts.
Gift was released before Floodland as a one-off project, Eldritch was never going to keep the name.
@originalgoth Also the unofficial Fanzine of the "Sisters of Mercy" was called the "Sisterhood" at this time, that added to the situation. So hence Eldritch won damages of £20,000 (for the single only, the album rubbed salt in the wounds). 2 0 0 0 0 the reference on the the album. Just additional not conflicting ok. But there are lyrical references between Floodland and Gift.
Yea, the reference you're giving is the 2 5 0 0 0 at the very beginning of Gift - that is a cheap shot at Wayne, it was what the record comapny were offering either of them to relaese an album before the other.
They played Rain From heaven in the 4 concerts that they did recently. They also played No time to Cry so maybe for the 30th anniversary concerts next year we'll hear lots of classic Sisters songs from all eras.
@originalgoth Yeah, it is 2 5000, my mistake, let's put it down to being "tired and emotional", but some good new stuff would be sound aswell. Sorry on that one.
I'd love to hear the early songs played as they were recorded - (no thrashing guitars where there shouldn't be) when they play their 30th anniversary gigs next year.
2 dates in Leeds so far, and I hope they add Rock City to the list as well.
@djjohnmartin For a fan of 15 years, you should know by now that Sisters of Mercy were around before SISTERHOOD. The early singles, Reptile House, Temple of Love (came out way before 1992), Body and Soul, First and Last and Always. They were all before Sisterhood and GIFT came out. Sisterhood was between First and Last and Always and Floodland.
The other version of Colours was released on FLOODLAND, not Vision Thing.
@djjohnmartin Completely wrong. The Sisters of Mercy were first, but Andrew Eldritch, the singer and Wayne Hussy, guitarist had a falling out. Both were using the name Sisters of Mercy and hussey, so Eldritch used The Sisterhood...when he finally won the rights to use the name he switched back to The Sisters of Mercy. Colours was released on both Gift and the album right after it, Floodland.
This is an amazing song. I have loved The Sisters of Mercy since I was 14. I am 34 now and have their logo (greys anatomy) tattood on my upper back(star with the head looking up). They got me through some really hard times in my life. Thanks for posting this song! Nine While Nine is my absolute favorite by the way!
Yes, like lights, Alice, Kiss the carpet,or Temple of love. When did you become a fan? How long have you been listening to them? Where do you live? Do ypu have the Mission Like a Hurricaine.
i dont have that song but i love "the mission." ive been a sisters Fan for about 4 years and a collector for about 1. and yes i have all of thos songs and will post them.
James Ray (Gangwar, The Performance, etc...) provided primary vocals for this song with Patricia Morrison (The Gun Club, Sisters, The Damned etc...) and Alan Vega (Suicide) also participating; moreover, Andrew only produced the Gift album, and there is no evidence that he actually performed on it.
I don't think so. Listen to the voice, it is quite obvious that this is *not* Andrew. Further, I've actually seen James Ray and Andrew perform (not together) "Giving Ground" live.
It's true but Andrew still can sing it and does. He's a master and he was in the original SOM and gave birth to many undeniable amazing songs. It's hard to keep a good man down.
ah thank you for the bit of information but i did in fact think this was Von despite it being slightly off key then normal. but yes i plan to add quite a few of the demos ive obtained onto here and hope you enjoy them.
