Yes, those forces have been ineffectual so far, but we need to do what we can to encourage and strengthen them. Sending U.S. forces is impossible, we're all tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan, the war does not directly affect us, and our going there would make the situation worse instead of better. U.S. troops in yet another Islamic country would attract extremists.

Well no, I agree completely. Many countries whine and whine, and it would be better if they stopped complaining and got to fixing their own affairs. But as I mentioned, on the other hand, no one likes outsiders to be tangling with domestic affairs when they really are affairs that should be taken care of by the local governments. Historically, that has not worked in favor of the U.S.

Well, undoubtedly that has to play a part, but having lived in Latin America for over 10 years, I´ve seen the negative effects of policies that the US have strong armed these countries into adopting, when they are at times not suited to the particular needs of each region. Ofcorse, there are also some positive effects, but generally speaking, I don´t think any one country takes kindly to being pushed here or there in their internal affairs. It eventually leads to certain consequences.
