I'll admit I don't speak flemish (though i used to know a little) but it was very interesting to see the poem recited with such energy and little somber.
I'll admit I didn't find it funny, but i liked it. I've been to that dug out, for those who don't know it was John McCrae's old aid station. I hold the poem very closely to my heart, but as a Belgian they too understand how horrific the war was.
I don't understand it completely yet, but i did enjoy this : )
He is a comedian, but a very subtle one. yes, he makes you laugh and guides you in a wrong direction. Then you start thinking, wait, this isn't funny, this is more, this is beautifull and profound. this is typical for him: Dark, loud humour with strange mindbends wrapped in some silly pose balancing the thin red line between humour and emotion. I'd like to call it art.
Impossible to make such a poem funny, it will always be what it is: A beutiful human thought born from a beautiful mind amidst grotesque agony and the destruction of human life.
inderdaad, woestijnvis was eerst (maken ook altijd zelf hun programma's), en omdat dit toch wel aansloeg heeft de hollandse tv de rechten gekocht om dit ook te mogen maken, ik weet nog indertijd met "Vaneigens", als je vergeleek: hier geweldig, ginder superflauw, mijn mening..
