I simply don't feel Ukrainian my native language and Ukrainian culture my own culture Leave us alone and don't try to persuade our identity and feelings are wrong, blaming Russians and whoever. Um, Askold... I happen to be 25% Lemko, I happen to be a filmmaker, and I also happen to have made a documentary film which you will see in prominent film festivals in 2009.

I can assure you, that Lemkos have been around long before the KGB was ever a glimmer in Stalin's eye.

It is people like you that would pretend the Hollocaust is a myth, and find joy in genocide and persecution. You are the lowest form of humanity.

Many opinions are based on who you know, where you grew up and what you believe. I will never consider myself Ukrainian. I AM better than that...the Lemko's are better than that. We do not deserve to be painted with the same brush! Operation Wisla was a result of this misconception. The Poles told us we were Ukrainian, so we suffered the same fate as them. Is it rational to blame them however? No. I cannot push this slander on them, despite every emotion in my body telling me to.

This is my last response to this feed. I cannot fathom wasting any more time on people that just don't get it. I consider myself a Lemko at heart, and it pains me to come to the same realization every time I talk about this subject. There may never be a Lemko culture beyond the current. It will die from confusion and uncertainty to the consequence of our heritage and our ancestry. And so begins my rant!

As I have always said, the best perspective in life is a third perspective because it gathers the clearest form of what I call true rational. It is not biased as a direct or first person perspective would be. Consequently, as is my case, I did not grow up in the Carpathians. I have grown up unbecoming the the regional perspectives. Additionally, why bother associating our people with Ukraine? If you want to do that, just say your Ukrainian and don't waste your breath talking about the "Lemko Factor" in this Ukrainian nation. I just don't understand...what has Ukraine done for you to make you want to be better Ukrainians than the actual Ukrainians.

It would be great to one day be able to carve out a piece of this earths surface and say "this place is where I am from. This place here with its clearly defined borders and a clearly established culture--a national identity." I fear this case is just not in the cards for us Lemko's as long as we divide nationally on what country we feel closer to. This being said, you can write whatever you want about me or my opinion. I am not as stubborn as many may think, I'm just always right!

Hey you guys can write million times that lemko's are not Ukrainians, but those are just empty words without any back up to prove them. Please, inquire more about KGB's involvment in creation of so called Lemko identity and you'll understand that it is only done to break up Ukrainian nation. Paul Robert Magocsi If you do your research you will find out that he was indeed at the service of Czechoslovak KGB. When in 1990's Czechs opened their KGB files, he was listed under two different nicknames. Magosci himself does not deny the fact, you can ask him about it.

Selfname of ukrainians historicly was always RUSYNY, even at the begining of 20 century ukrainians in whole western ukraine called themselves rusyny. Chelnyc'kyj did not fight for righits of ukrainians he fought for Rusyn's rights, rusyn's fate, rusyns freedom

Name of first ukrainian state is Kyivska RUS.

At a time when Moskovites stole our Rusyn name

to differ from them most people started to use name Ukrainian as it is now.

@pivhucul This is the same old story told by Ukrainians. It is a well-known fact that even before WW II present-day Ukrainians used the name "Rusyn". Nobody denies this fact.

The name doesn't really matter. People like me can't accept the name "Ukrainec" for the reasons I mentioned below. I can't be Ukrainian because I don't identify with the Ukrainian national ethos, its components like language, culture, mentality etc. We are Rusyns but not the Rusyns in the Ukrainian sense.

If you still don't understand this please refer to an articles by WESTERN scholars, not COMMUNIST UKRAINIAN ones. Historian Paul Robert Magocsi is also a good start.

I agree with you they sing in Ukrainian at Festivals, and Churches. The video is beautiful. I had the privalege of being there in June. I am Ukrainian and felt very good in this region. I think it is beautiful, and the video depicts the region and the people, who are dressed in Ukrainian dress and vyshyvky beautifully. My response is to allstarcowboy who seems to be confused with ethnic regions and dialects, and official languages and nations.

The Lemko's are not Ukrainians! They are, in fact, a separate group of people, just as the Ukrainians are separate from the Russians...

There are those, like yourselves, that would argue the contrary in order to call themselves a people that are visible on a map... but the fact still stands, Lemko's—the Carpathian-Rusyn's—are a distinct people of a humble, honest heritage. They are not Ukrainian!

Ofcourse they are Ukrainians. The idea of Lemkos being separate is just a Russian/Czechoslovak KGB invention to break up the Ukrainian minority in Eastern Slovakia. Puppets like YOU do the dirty work while the russians laugh themselves silly.

P.S. Beutiful Ukrainian costumes in that video, I like the one part where they are dressed as Ukrainian cossacks.
