@terryrhf "A waste"? No. In the short time he was with us, Jeff gave many of us a reason to hope, a reason to love, & a reason to have faith in music and to believe in how powerful it can be. "This guy would have been an utter legend"? He IS a legend, dear. He was on his way to becoming a legend the first time he opened his mouth to sing and the first time he picked up a guitar, and he sure as hell had earned "legend" status by the time he died. Sad and heartwrenching? Yes. A waste? Hell no.
People are right to say there is a void in music that Jeff left, and that he was one of the greats and there will never be anyone like him, but they are wrong in saying that all music today is crap. If you're just listening to the radio, then yes...it's almost all crap. But there IS good stuff out there. you just have to know where to look. I feel sorry for people who don't know this.
WHY THE FUCK DO THEY ALL HAVE TO GO!!! JIMI JANIS JIM KURT JEFF, AND SO MANY MORE!!! IT'S UNBELIEVABLE AND MAKES ME SICK!! I tell you that right now there is nothing but a bunch of dumbass worthless people left on earth. I might be one of them but at least I'm trying not to be.
There's an artist very similar to Jeff :) he's original in his own right but even Mary Buckley asked him to play jeff in the documentary...but no one should have to be something they're not so he respectfully declined. Check out Rocco DeLuca, he has the same spirit that drove Jeff, more of a delta-blues darker sound but you'll get it...
@TheReligionkills Chris Cornell was AMAZING back in the day. Let there be no doubt about that. I can't believe Soundgarden has actually gotten back together. I'm set to see them at Voodoo Fest but I won't believe it until I see it that he can still hit those same notes he used to be able to back in the day, because I honestly don't believe he can...
@jimmypagejnr I agree, the first two minutes were good, just people expressing their true feelings about him then they ruin it by some phony ass lyric reading BS
It's almost without a doubt in my mind, that Jeff Buckley could've revolutionized and ushered a whole new scene or style of music like John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix did. Fuck I mean it really sucks that the tragedy of him passing happened cause when something as catastrophic as this happening happens the void is filled complete shit or near to it.
does anyone know where the youtube vid is where a man is talking about jeff's father and jeff performing for a tribute concert for Tim...the man say he doesnt know what to expect and then they see jeff on stage, the light shines over his cheeks and it is like seeing a ghost of tim and then Jeff begins singing and brings the house to its knees? Anyone remember that vid? Please send me the link if you can. thanks.
That's it all the grungers of the 90's vedder, cornell, cobain, wyland, stayley, wood, hoon, etc. knew buckley was the man who was gonna change music he was the michaelanglo the mozart, the pavoratti then he died and we were fucked, kinda like when reagan became president and lennon was murdered so this world has suffered ever since.
@nat00ben06 You're right, Jeff could have changed the face of the grunge movement, and lots of musicians were influenced by him, even though his style was much more avant garde. But, bare in mind that the Hoons and Woods of the movement were making music long before Jeff made a mark. I'm a fucking big Jeff fan, I'm just saying.
this just gave me chills i'm literally about to cry, i just don't understand why god had to take someone so talented as jeff away from us.... i'd give anything to have him back.
if he only had more time music these days wouldn't be so shitty....
we miss you jeff, the world is a darker place without you but you'll live forever in all our hearts, rest in peace....
Far out. That was intense. I think for those people that arent familiar with Jeff Buckley, this could still bring a lump to their throat. Really endearing as well, the hosts reaction at the end. It summed it up for me. Me te whakaaro nui atu...
Yea when I was a kid in the 70's and heard all the great music that was being put on vinyl and thought around 76 or 77 that music would just get better and better but comparatively after that everything minus a handful exceptions music de evolved. Jeff to me was the start of a new renaissance in music and I think the record companies believed it as well. Man I miss him!
WOW. I've been listening to this song for more than 4 hours straight and I see this. Cornell's right, Jeff Buckley will always have this ability to add some uncomfortable, brilliant, elusive thing you can't quite put your finger on. Like when you think you've finally hit the saturation point when listening to his songs, somehow he manages to lure you back to his indefinite ebb and flow and love it all over again. I can't comprehend it. How do you do it Jeff, how? Were you too ahead of your time?
This is great stuff. 'Love it when greats (e.g. Cornell) talk about others who do the same craft. Buckley was not "mere potential" (AllMusic), but a genius with his one album. Awesome post. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Thanks,
not an ordinary musician! To ask a guy like him to seach in on berkley or something would be a huge insult, too great for that and borned to be an artist, not a background musician for sure!

Absolutely. I have to admit to having never heard Elliot Smith but will remember the name if I see it on my musical travels. If its not in the mainstream (which is meaningless to me - I like musicians) then that is a good sign. I loved Jeff as for me he expressed himself in a really unique way. As a musician of 25+ years I found learning his music gave me a new respect for just how unique and talented he really was. Anyway, thanks for comment :-)
@awishedforsong no problem! Its very surreal when a comment you made well over a year ago gets a response.
