  • Treated lumber is a big no no!! It will shrink with time and create problems. The whole idea is to never allow water to reach the wood to begin with. Thanks to people like you I get lots of shower repair jobs.

  • Hey Randy, I don't know what ceramictec said that you had to remove it, but I can tell you that YOU need to learn how to build showers, since you only have a vague idea now.

Please people, don't anybody listen to this fella.

  • where is the waterproofing- home depot weekend warrior tile job.

  • ahh a shower throne fit for an over weight american obese king

  • @rolficus asshole

  • skip the framing and install a "Better Bench " frame, mud it, tile it, done!

  • Amateur. You always build the bench first. Where is the waterproofing?

  • excellent work. good planning and detail. Only one small peice of advice; invest in a screwgun. better than nailing

  • its not even presure treated let alone done correctly

  • haha dude frame the bench before you start anything else

  • It's like a great Shakespeare play- comedy and tragedy. "All the the world's a shower, and we are merely installers."

  • Please STOP. You have no idea how to build a bench, and possibly a shower too.

  • That bench will work great until you turn

the water on. You do intend on someone actually

    using this shower right?

  • your kidding me right ?

    mmmm,kay!

  • more work less talk

  • Waterproof this bench!!!

  • you now you old guys do it all the same. my dad did it the same way. except he membraned over the bench an caulked screws. also blocks are actually pretty light and are the way to go. also block seats are perfect ticket work because the memrane usually goes up high on the bech side above the seat plus 6-12"

  • hey dekon. how do you build a shower bench with blocks? thx

  • great video and advice

  • thanks dud! this was really good stuff!!

  • Good instructional video here. But I do agree that some form of membrane should be affixed to the wood before installing the backerboard. To make matters worse, the water will get into that pressure treated wood and leech arsenic on your feet which will cause you to go braindead. Maybe building a bench out of composite materials would be better.

  • Hey Randy, so..it's just the grout and a bit of caulk that keeps that wooden frame from getting wet?

  • you didnt put no membrane under hardibacker board on the seat your backer board is eventually gonna weakin an everything your building in video will sit in constant water read on internet this is a no no you put membrane over seat to keep wood dry an hardi board over membrane

  • Now this WAS helpful.
