Not to take away from this totally badass video, especially since I work with some former members of the Regiment, but a couple places in there you still have the MH-47D....they've all been upgraded to the Golf model.
Still, totally awesome video and one I'd be proud to show the folks at work. Oh, BTW...I work at Boeing in Ridley Park PA, where we build the -47's.
@TheDevenrocks No, but there was a project to implement them instead of the MH-60 DAP. There was a competition, but the Apache crews 'lost' (DAP crews had a higher overall score).
@MH6M oh thank you. but what about Kendall M. Amazaki, Jr the apache pilot who got in trouble with taking special info. he was in the 160th and flew apache. Was back in 2007 or 2008.
@TheDevenrocks As I stated before, there are no Apache helicopters in the 160th. Guys who flew the AH-64 do try out fro the Unit, some are accepted, some are not. Their skills are valuable when they go to Six Guns (AH-6M Little Bird attack company) or other elements in the 160th. Officers ususally man staff posistions, where the actuall flying is done by Warrant Officers. But that is not a solid rulle.
@MH6M - im signing up with a 11x MOS with an option 40 contract, i really cannot wait to start my military career. I hope that i will manage to get into the 75th. One thing i truly cannot wait for is to fly on choppers flown by the nightstalkers. Its just amazing what these guys can do with a chopper
when i was at ft. hood, putting gas in those awesome machines, even we would talk about "tha 160"! much respect, and I'm glad they got bin laden, let's get tha rest of em too fellas! 27th msb, 1st Cav.

@TheGnomelandSecurity Its largely based on past perfomance and your reputation as a pilot. NCOs have higher chances to get in but....then again they don't fly the helos. The 160th IS a Special Operations Unit after all...
@TheGnomelandSecurity One thing about defence, there is always a reason people are rejected, not accepted or withdraw from courses etc. I guess, its up to your father on how honest he wants to be with you as to exactly why he was not accepted into the 160th.
and not one CRAPache helicopter was shown in this video. i don't know why the army decided to waste money on the CRAPache when they could have kept the Cobras or just created more attack Hawks.
@cellblock131 apache's arent in this vid because this video is about the 160th... the 160th is for getting the spec ops grunts in where they need to be and back out. the apache is an ATTACK helo. they dont carry troops. this units mission doesnt require apaches. only transport airframes.
I' m x Army(82nd Airborne) had the chance to take flight test, one of the biggest mistakes I ever made not taking it.You keep on top of it man. Good luck hoowah!
@MH6M Cause I'm Active Duty Air Force at the moment, was a spec ops job but they disqualified me because of a bullshit adopted vision standard.. im getting laser eye surgery next week then looking into Warrant Officer for Army; if it doesn't work out or get accepted then I'll go back to my spec ops job- but I'd LOVE to fly
The choppers these men fly and fight from are awsome weapons in them selves ....
But.... It is the young men who leap from them that will track, locate, fight, capture, or kill anyone or anything they are pointed at and unleashed against . May god have pitty on anyone who meet's these men in the night becouse we will not !
I live 1 hour away from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. I go there sometimes because my dad's in the Army National Guard. man o man I love that place. They got the 160th Soar,5th special forces group,101st Airforce Division, and something else stationed there...a GREAT base.
Some badass chopper dudes here. I'm sure glad they're on our team. Hey bin Laden, better stay in that cave......look who we've got trying to find your sorry ass!
160th SOAR is more than just bad ass Pilots. Its the Mechanics, Crew Chiefs, Door Gunners, Flight Medics. All of them make up the most bad ass Special Ops helicopter unit on the planet.
The've been tested. The GAU-19 is being used by DAP crews and mounted on AH-6M Little Birds. The NOTAR concept was tested but didn't meet the units demands. As for the Osprey - it's not a helicopter.....'nuff said.
Nope. There was a test to see which platform was better for weapons carry. AH-64 Apache and a MH-60L DAP were tested. Long story short the MH-60 DAP won and the 160th decided to stick with the MH-60. But the fact is that - at least at the time - MH-60 DAP crews had A LOT more range time than Apache crews, thats why they won. The 160th decided they don't need a dedicated attack helicopter like the AH-64 Apache. hope that answeres your question.
i grew up around army helicopters and saw them do a lot of really cool things AA missions, refuel, evasive maneuvers, all practice and this movie still gave me chills. i can't wait till i can go to air assault school, this movie is awesome.
I was reading "Nightstalkers" by Mike Durrant and at one point he says blackhawk pilots remove their doors normally only when they are by the sea. Is that for quicker escapes in a water landing or what? and what about the littlebirds? do they ever put the doors on?
Doors are removed because its easier to see outside the aircraft. Little Bird pilots never put doors on. Its all in the book - a great book by the way =]
Yes. PJs that are part of Special Tactics Squadrons in the USAF Special Operations Command often work with Night Stalkers. As we speak there are special ops exercises in Croatia where PJs and other SOF units from Europe are training with the 160th SOAR(A).
if i wasnt joining the british army, that woud be the one i would join if i was american !! you guys are the best, you wont find a better regiment for delivering troops into battle !
Yeah my buddy was in mogadishu and was an operator that landed on the roof of the target house. He said these pilots r amazing. ok he said A-MA-ZING, but in either case he said that there isn't a better group for delivering soldiers in the world and anyone who disputes that quite simply doesn't know what they r talking about.
Isn't this an excerpt from "The Night Stalkers?" lol Favorite book, read it at least 6 times. It's the reason I'm going into army aviation, that and my semi-romantic relationship with helicopters lol i love them.
I wonder whats more hilarious - your comment or the fact that you are a 25-y.o. airsofter putting up a vid of you doing a failure drill using toy guns ?
Speaking bout this airsoft stuff from your own experience? No, sorry you don't seem 25, rather 16. You really think that guys from 160'th call themselves "operators"? They just do their job and laugh at guys like you - jerking off when they hear "they own the night". Probably the best military helo pilots in the world.

some of these ppl maybe need to realize MH6M seems pretty damn knowledgable and being around these guys umm... well his Username 'MH6M' should be a pretty damn good indicator that he pry is around them too.

The 160th has the best helo pilots in the Army. I remember reading about them years ago. They get first crack at new kit and they utilize it to the fullest. I think they're the first ones to try inflight helo re-fueling in 85' or 89', I think it was 85'. They now fly the new CH-47G Chinook. A great helo.
I loved the chinook and the modified blackhawk i did a little bit with the little bird but not much great guys there just like the green beret really mellow and fun to hang out with . Ssgt Ryan 1/75th rgt.
Yes, Mike Durrant the guy who was captured and held prisoner was a Night Stalker. the whole Black hawk down event was about the Night Stalkers. they lost (i think) 4 choppers that day. but they are still the best. any other grp of ppl other then the 160th, Delta, and the marines that were there would have been slaughtered. i give them and any1 who fights for us ALL the respect i can.
No. The MH-60 DAP is the brainchild of Cliff Walcott, and was made to support the Regiment's operations where earlyer they only had the AH-6 as a pure offensive helo - a "killer hunter".
The MI-24 was made for the Red Army and it's purpuse is to do fast attacks on enemy targets and instalations. In Afghanistan it reacked havoc among the mudżahedin.
Lovely machines...........I like the US Special Forces!

Great, our soldiers have "soulless eyes". Does the writer understand that is a BAD thing?
"Determined eyes", "relentless eyes" -- OUR soldiers are not supposed to be automatons.
Nice military porn you've made here.

3 were shot down (two crashed in the city, Super62 made a controlled crash landing on the airfield).

Great video!
I enjoyed all the "FLIR" footage, many of those images are new for me.
Do you think that the "armed" UH-60 is the american answer to the Mi-24? (it is: an armed helicopter that still can transport some troops?)
locolopelocolope 3 years ago
