Old news. What's really important now that Obama's president isn't some personal, political issue. I'd like to see him do something about hydronium dioxide pollution in our homes, our schools, and often found in commercial pipe. Thousands of people die from H-D poisoning every year, and yet we're talking about either character stuff or abstract agenda junk, when we could solve a very immediate problem here and now through education and prevention.
Well, the problem is that there are so many names for the same substance (hydronium monoxide, dihydrogen monoxide, h. hydroxide, etc.) that the effects of its usage are not recorded in a single place, but are often recorded separately under the various chemical misnomers.
I also heard about the bottled water incident, wherein the contents of the bottle had inadvertently been replaced with trace amounts of h. monoxide, but people need to know these aren't isolated incidents.
Dihydrogen monoxide: * is called "hydroxyl acid", the substance is the major component of acid rain. * contributes to the "greenhouse effect". * may cause severe burns. * contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape. * accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals. * may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes. * has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.
Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used: * as an industrial solvent and coolant. * in nuclear power plants. * in the production of styrofoam. * as a fire retardant. * in many forms of cruel animal research. * in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical. * as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.
---Granted, all those examples are pulled straight from Wikipedia, so take 'em or leave em. (Just a little fact-checking reaffirms that the majority of these examples are true.) But it is straightforward issues like these that provide the best opportunity of proving if we can really work together on problems in a "post-partisan" age, and I hope the new Democratic government shapes its goals accordingly.
I don't agree with her politics but yeah David Schuster is a huge smug douchebag.

Thousands? Really? I've only heard about one case in the last decade, and that was from a contest to see who could drink the most bottled water.
Thousands? I'm gonna have to call Bullpucky on that one :)

I heard the US Navy was experimenting with this too. Sadly there are several documented cases were our service men died from this substance.
