  • i love this style of music i dont know why but it fills my heart

  • what kind of camera does this guy use? it LOOKS beautiful!

  • Is there such thing as something being too good? I loved this video so much. Great great job!

  • Why can I only find one Sufjan Stevens take away show!? Do more please!!

  • I like how you can hear him playing a bit from "The Owl and the Tanager" at the end, over three years before he released it on an album.

  • Sufjan, even though it was too cold, I am glad you complied.

  • @wickeddrummer13 Oh my, three years ago? and I still love this song..

  • how come he moves away yet the audio is still as good/loud

    must be another mic?

  • @stottieC there is a mic on his jacket

  • France?

  • It's an "Innocence Mission" cover.

  • Fuck I want to film Sufjan on a roof in France. THATS LIKE 3 AMAZING THINGS COMBINED!!!!!

  • @fillXinXblankXstares

This isn't in France. It is actually in Over the Rhine in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was at the three day festival for MusicNow and Sufjan/Vincent were there all three nights.

  • so good

  • I thought I saw it rowing on the lakes of Canada

  • I love this version of "The lakes of Canada" and I also love "He woke me up again" and "The owl and the tanager". I love this video and La Blogotheque. And I love Sufjan Stevens most of all.

  • Caliver would love to do A Take Away but we need your help! visit calivermusic.bandcamp.com and enjoy our lovely acoustic music and help us achieve our goal of having our music heard and appreciated!!

  • What is he singing in the beginning? I can't figure it out :/

  • @smancisidor "He Woke Me Up Again". Love that song.

  • Ah this is so lovely.

  • i love it.. that they just gave him a jacket and hat!!!! lol!!! who cares if its tooo cold... pic video shot!! heheeheheh nice...

  • I see this video has 652,685 views. Why are they only counting mine?

  • I really want to hear that version of He Woke Me Up now

  • 31 people missed the like button.

  • I would marry this man in a second.

  • For those that saw this and thought "I wanna play this on the geetar," here ya go.

    Verse:

Bm D A E (words start on D, just listen and play with Sufjan).

    Chorus:

Bm A F#m D(x2) and on the last line it plays D A E(2x) then Bm.

    Rinse and repeat.

  • Oh Sufjan Stevens, how u never cease to amaze me.

  • So so so beautiful. No words for explain it.

  • ohh what a nice place!!!!

  • Seriously, how could anyone dislike this?

  • damn I wish LaBlog did a whole series with Sufjan just like they do with other artists. Sufjan is amazing live!

  • City? Goodest song

  • City?

  • I could sit here and watch this channel the entire day.

  • @tomoyopop exactly!

  • i cannot believe i didnt like this when i first heard it. this is great

and @iamtimmycouk, i bought a banjo bc of him too, man

  • 4:27 CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE PIANO SONG?

  • @supermassivexxx The Owl and the Tanager, From "All Delighted People -EP

  • The people who disliked this song are just as good as the people who liked this video. I mean...the 30 people who disliked this video are damnable harlots.

  • He really needs to release an official version of this...

  • @thestrongbad This should be the official version of this! :)

  • @thestrongbad

I was hoping for that as well but I think he can't because turns out he's doing a cover of it. The original song is done by this band called Innocence Mission. Their version is pretty good but I prefer Sufjan's version by a mile!

  • Thank you Sufjan Stevens for making music that truly relaxes me.

  • @LinguaFranca2 its a cover lol

  • I wish he would record this song! I like it a lot

  • Sufjan can stand on glass ; )

  • @gdgoksal Probably 30 hardcore Innocence Mission fans.

  • Forced to play for Montréal on top of a roof. In the wind. In the cold. Better than ever. This, Sufjan Stevens, is why we love you.

  • @diablajane They were in Cincinnati, Ohio...

  • @smon93 Oh my gosh, really? Oops. Pretty city.

  • what's that song he's playing before he starts playing lakes of canada?

  • @anythingxevrything It's called He woke me up again.

  • i should apoogize to innocence mission-I wish i would have listened to the original version first because this took the cake and ate it too

  • I think about the fact that he is wearing tennis shoes in this video often.

    :)

  • Sufjan has a beautiful voice...

    A beautiful personality...

    Beautiful dance moves...

    Beautiful fluro tape...

He is beautiful live... (yes I have seen him live and WOW is all I have to say)

And is just all round A beautiful person.

  • Sufjan is the only american I can think of that could sing this song with as much integrity as any Canadian. He searches for the integrity in everything he does and that genuine character really comes through when he sings this. Thanks for putting this up. You've made my day!

  • @juveag7 I think you need to look up the definition of integrity again. Good song though, yes.

  • @sneal261 I mean that he sings it just as genuinely as any canadian. He sings honestly. Or you could say he sings with integrity. Well that was my thought process. It's quite a malleable defnition and the word is thrown around a lot so maybe it has lost some of its original meaning but that's how language works. It's constantly changing and molding. Thanks for your concern but I think I'm confindent with how I used the word.

  • Alucinante!!! Muito bom!!!

  • 0:55 (now you can go right to the start of the song itself).

  • the 30 people who dislike this do not deserve to see the dawn of a new day.

  • @sporkthepanda i loved it too, but doesn't that seem a bit extreme?

  • @AwonWps You are my hero. Thank you so much man

  • Zis was beautiful.

  • Im surprised this doesnt have more views, I first watched this so long ago

  • @franksinbeans yeah... you guys are all really late, whenever anyone comments on my good taste of music, ill definitely give frankisbeans a shout out, after all, he found Sufajn first. HIPSTERORDIE! haha classic bro(am i right beansie?)

  • @inthefarest wtf are you talking about

  • @inthefarest no one hates hipsters more than hipsters

  • Does anyone know what is played on the piano at the very end?

  • @Ghettobnzie1 He woke me up again

  • @Ghettobnzie1 The Owl and the Tanager. It's on his EP All Delighted People.

  • This is my favorite video of Cincinnati. As a native of the queen city, this video does the city great justice. Thanks Sufjan!

  • The banjo is quickly becoming my favorite instrument.

  • Love this man and his music! To everyone wondering what the first song is, it's called He Woke Me Up Again, off of his Seven Swans album. If you want to thumbs this up so people can see, you may! However they could just as eaisly type those words into Google...

  • i love the contrast in the architecture behind him. its so relevant to his sound as well, some of the old, with some of the new.

  • what is the beginning song?

  • @johnpaulfan

He Woke Me Up Again from Seven Swans

  • I'm playing this song almost every day on my banjo. Really really beautiful song.

  • Absolutely love this song :D

  • Sufjan playing a banjo while standing on a roof. No big deal.

  • :)

  • Ha did anybody else notice "The Owl and the Tanager" at the end? (the piano) That song was released in late 2009 and its in THIS video which was posted in 2007!

  • @penkacik lol sufjan works to perfect his songs....on albums he starts with one of his perfected songs and works outward-inward-and anywhere in between. He probably has songs ready that will not be heard for 10 years lol

  • @penkacik

It's always been a song he's played live, just wasn't released till All Delighted People

  • @penkacik Space and time fail! :O

  • @penkacik There's a lot of his stuff that he sometimes plays live unpublished! No surprises that it was around for a couple of years.

  • @penkacik Believe it or not but alot of people write songs years before their actually recorded and released

  • @penkacik

That is because he played the song for the first time initially at MusicNow(the last night).

At the time it was called "Barn Owl, Night Killer" as far as I remember.

  • such a sick song/banjo is sick. and if anyone can check my "to be alone with you" cover of sufjan on my page, i'd be grateful

  • sufjan is so handsome~

  • I love this man so much.

  • there are 29 people that i dont understand not even a little bit

  • Sufjan gives canada some love , 29 people hate canada.

  • Capo on a banjo, thats dope.

  • This man is beautiful inside and out! I adore Sufjan and his music! This song really puts me in such a good mood, rejuvenates me, and helps me see the world in a different way. *sigh* :)

I gotta say, if you feel anxious or upset or perturbed - "Keep calm and put Sufjan Stevens on!" :D His music does wonders for the soul!

  • He is seriously my favorite person on the face of the planet. Josh Ritter is a close second, though...

  • wait a minute...did I just fall in love?

  • if you like Sufjan, check out "More So" by me. Much appreciated!

  • Come to Poland, dear. Please <3

  • that piano at the end is awesome (as is the song), anyone know what it is?

  • @randwan I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it (at least the first half of it from 4:28-4:40) sounds a lot like 'The Owl and the Tanager' from his 2010 EP album. The second half of it sounds like something from his BQE album, but that's probably stretching it.

  • After listening to Sufjan Stevens,

I realized what true love is <3

  • Its not fair how much good music I'm discovering with this channel.

  • Cincinnati is so beautiful and Sufjan is such a great singer.

  • themonktito, the song he begins to sing is "He Woke Me Up Again" off of the album Seven Swans. It's a great song.

  • Please come to Vancouver good sir..I missed your appearance!

  • whats the name of the song that he starts singing at first but then doesnt continue?

  • This is hilarious and awesome. ♥ It has so much personality.

  • It looks so surreal when the clock tower and city appears behind him.

  • @JUN34U, The original is on the Innocence Mission's Birds of My Neighborhood.

  • This song is by The Innocence Mission?

  • Comment removed

  • so after watching this video quite a few times (and lots and lots of Sufjan) i've just bought a banjo..oops....

  • @iamtimmycouk ME TOO. <3

  • @iamtimmycouk I'm with you right there. I bought a crappy one for too much from a pawn shop, had it fixed up, found out that it would need fixing up like every week because it was a low quality banjo, sold that back to the pawn store, bought a new one. Overall, I spent hundreds of dollars spontaneously... an embarrassing amount was wasted. But yeah I do love my banjo though

  • @iamtimmycouk

ha I was an inch away from buying a banjo too, pretty much because of Sufjan.

  • @iamtimmycouk I bought one because of him. Not a mistake at all! It's so much fun to learn. Make sure you get a teacher though. I would be so lost without one.

  • @iamtimmycouk Ive already started saving up for one too haha. Just went to the local music store ( for instruments) and played some. I want one soo bad right now.

  • @iamtimmycouk Ive already started saving up for one too and went to the local musical instrument store to play a few haha. Just wondering is yours a four string or a five string?

  • @iamtimmycouk

    haha, me too!!

  • @iamtimmycouk Same here!

  • @iamtimmycouk If you like the banjo sound check out Mumford and Sons!

  • @iamtimmycouk I happened to do the exact same thing! I also bought a harp because of Joanna Newsom, a trumpet because of Beirut and ukuleles because of Mirah. Don't regret any of them though!

  • @iamtimmycouk Haha I did the exact same thing!

  • WWWhere can i find the extended version of "owl and the Tanager"? The one that has this beautiful piano solo??????

  • Ohhhhh laughing man, what have you won? Don't tell me what cannot be done. My little mouth, My winter lungs. Don't tell me what cannot be done.

  • not that i dont like him but it was a perfect scenario for an EPIC FAIL, i just kept on watching expecting for a little footslip

  • what album is this on ?? anyone??

  • @JUN34U

the song is from the band the innocence Mission

    it´s just a cover

  • Oh, Sufjan, what have you become? Come back and be this once again.

  • @SoSaysI9 I quite like his experimentalism. He's trying to be fresh. If he had continued with this type of music it would have become a creatively stale environment for him and fans, no matter how unbelievably beautiful it is.

  • truly an epic

  • 26 People Suck

  • this makes me nervous- fear of heights!

  • Outside is most definetly the natural environment for music, as proved by this video, and most of La Blogotheque's videos.

  • I would like to know how they get such great sound quality??

the cameraman moves far away, and there arent any mics nearby or sound crew with equipment, yet the sound is so clear!

  • @peterchoi note the little microphone on Sufjan's jacket collar

  • I would like to know how the sound is recorded... the cameraman moves far far away, and you cant see any mics around him or any sound crew nearby, yet the sound quality is so clean!

  • I want more

  • something so magnificent as this was shot in cincinnati..?

  • I love this song...I love this singer....yes. Perfection.

  • i dont understand how so many people could dislike this..

  • I honestly cannot stop watching this video.

  • CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME What is the piano SONG at the end of the video is?

  • @imac1990 it's the owl and the tanager, off the all delighted people ep

  • Does anyone else get so irritated when the French guy swears? It almost feels like it's damaging the purity of Sufjan.

  • @SmellyBellyification take it you haven't heard the Age of Adz then

  • @TheEthanwilson You just won today.

  • @TheEthanwilson But Sufjan even makes 'I'm not fucking around' sound pure. Whereas the French dude... Just unnecessary.

  • I NEED to learn banjo

  • That piece in the end! It is the first steps towards The Owl and The Tanager!!

  • @lillebums1 also just noticed this. and this is at least three years old! so cool to hear that he had it already.

  • INNOCENCE MISSION = GLORIOUS. TAKE A LISTEN.

  • Think it is safe to say this is my favourite video on all of the interwebs.

  • Reappear with a jacket. So great.

  • i love this guy and his beautiful music. i couldnt afford to go see him last week in richmond but what i would have given...

  • damn. props to the cameraman. that was some treacherous shit

  • 1:55 complete chills. Oh my jesus. Oh my Lanta.

    Thank you for LaBlogotheque!

  • i had watched this video years ago and i didn't even realize it was LaBlogotheque

    now it all makes since

  • How amazing that he begins to play the piano for The Owl & The Tanager at the end when it wasn't even released until this year (2010)! So beautiful to know his mind has stowed it away for so long...

  • @HyperXfosho I totally posted a similar comment and then saw yours moment later. instead ill just thumbs up yours

  • I LOVE YOUR VERSION

  • i've been watching this video everyday. Sufjan Stevens makes this song his own

  • beautiful, beautiful boy.

  • @capetown540 haha. YES

  • I am living in Japan and this song made me miss and love Canada that much more!!
