Take the one with the same CPU, for instance. The video card on the imac is rly superior that the one offered by default. Keep in mind that apple computers have a better built quality, and that the iMac is an ALL-IN-ONE COMPUTER, featuring a LED backlit 27 inch screen with a 1440p resolution. You just can't compare. and a mac with less powerful specs will run faster that a more powerful PC. That's how it is. I haven't switched to mac for nothing.
Man saying mac's are better built is saying you were there to see all the pieces made and assembled. You can get the same performance out of pc's for cheaper. This is known as fact amongst programmers, gamers and technically intelligent audio/video professionals alike.
The 27inch imac quad core i5 has a weak video card for future use like newer games its a 4850 512mb thats an old card already plus i can easily surpass it by buying a ds-305w doublesight monitor (its like the 30inch flat panel) cinema display) but the duoble sight costs 1,200,00 and the apple monitor is 1,800,00 both have 2560 x 1600 pixels but the double sight has 1000:1 contrast ratio to the apple monitor's 700:1 but apple has higher brightness.
the imac is not meant to be expanded upon if that is what you please then argue your custom built pc against a mac pro and cinema display the mac pro is a workstation while the imac is a consumer level pc
The iMac is One if the few all in ones to have such a weak graphics card and for the price, a custom desktop or pre configured would be a better value than an iMac, p.s custom computers are also consumer level, the iMac and all other all in ones are more simplified, space and energy saving computers, but lack the power of a desktop computer and upgradability, I don't know about "workstations" but I'd take a custom computer over a mac pro anyday.
Once again your thought are interesting, but shorten then down, the globe is warming. :)
I think once again Apple have hit the mark. You should design for designs sake, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro and I am thinking about the new iMac for the Family, 27" is bloody big. I want some decent displays for my Pro, Come on Apple on that front.
yes, the bluetooth keyboard and mouse connect well and keep a good connection when waking from sleep etc. compared to Windows... I've tried both... macs are good w/ bluetooth.
I'd say early next year, chances are it'll be just a speed with an upgrade of the internal components (hopefully I5 at the very least) but probably look the same sadly.
I think the new iMac looks almost the same as it's predecessor, apart from the back casing and it's bezel. Possibility of a major in a year or two ?
You forgot to mention the capacity of a 2TB hard drive which is amazing I think, cuz how I think of it Is u have the 2TB already in the 27" iMac and also if you customize to the max an all you need to buy is an extra 2TB external and you bassically got yorself a mac pro!
Honestly, who in the hell could use 2TB's of memory. I can't even fill up an 8GB, iTouch. And on my Computer, I only use 15GB's of memory. Thats just insane.
Some people, myself included, use their computers as more of a multi-media machine instead of just using it as an internet and word processing device. I keep all types of movies on my computer and that takes up a good amount of memory. So for people like me, a lot of memory is crucial.
i probably use double the memory that you use (both ipod and computer) but some regular people use even more, and they probably want to get that much space and forget about it. but still, 500 gb is more than enough for me. however consumist people will allways try to go for as much as they can.
i have a 24" Samsung 2494HS monitor 1920x1080 and i can see things fine. Thats windows 7 though, i think mac has higher DPI so things would appear smaller. A 27" imac would be huge though, my 24" is big. I might have to go apple store and see what its like
I feel like 27" is too big. I mean 24 alone is huge. Image what 27 looks like sitting on your desk. And it seems like Apple is trying to draw people away from their display because 27 is so close to 30. From what i've seen, you usually buy an external display thats bigger than your normal computer's screen. But with 27" theres no reason to buy an external display. Maybe this means Apple is working on a bigger display. I think theres too big of a gap between 27" and 21.5". They need an in bewteen
I hope Apple keeps upgrading there MacBooks because where I live there is a city who bought all of there kids in middle school and high school MacBooks.
yeh i always say to ppl...if you can, get a desktop mac.lol. def more bang for buck, the laptops are pretty expensive, i mean i paid almost £1000.00 for my aluminium macbook but thats also for apple care and thats with student discounts...i dunno wat im gonna do wen i loose my students discounts wen im done uni...im gonna cry LOL
i think the bluray licensing issues, is what stops apple adopting it, plus bluray is growing slow, and tbh a bluray slot loading drive, is a bit expensive to do, but ive seen it done, so apple have no excuse really.lol.
lol 4 months is SO OLD....jks.lol. ye i mean...im pretty cool atm, so im stopping myself to get any new mac as im saving money for the SO CALLED APPLE TABLET.lol. plus i wont get a new mac until 1) my mac will no longer run the later versions of osx 2) processors change from core2duo to i3 or something else, 3) i usually try to get a new system every 4 years...its only been 1.3 years.lol no u wont grow up....i know i wont, ill be at apple store whenever i can.lol....LAME I KNOW.lol
i think theres a page on the apple website that talks about the video in port..if not just google it, im sure gizmodo or other websites will have DETAILED info on that subject.
nope, because its still using core2duo, but the issue is...when will apple update the processors...apple are pretty slow, and i cant even guess, since this is a BIG CHIP movement for apple...but if u need it, get it ! if u can wait, then try and wait.lol.
lol i hardly qualify as expert, im just voicing my views and opinions, u know me...so howd u like ur new mac ? i know stupid questions, but i have to ask ? lol
i love it, its easily the best computer i have ever owned. I got it back in June and I haven't gotten tired or using it. Everything about it: the build quality, the aesthetic value, the power, the speed etc is great for the most part. Snow leopard has been a little buggy for me though...i should reinstall it but i am too lazy.
hmm since apple pulled out from macworld, my predicting has been off.lol...but the last update was in june so...i think december/january makes sense, apple have to upgrade there processors because my january, its been 8 months, so yes i think around january (macworld time)
sounds about right, would be wicked if they released them before christmas - wouldnt that make more sense in terms of money too? that way i wouldnt have to wait for so damn long lol
"if you were within that 178* viewing angle" - how would you not be within 178*, you would have to be looking at it bang on the side not to be, unless you were 1* off at 179* :) just goes to show how apple have made a perfect viewing experience
ye, i mean whats the point in saying i like the core2duos, if i dont think so.lol. i mean they were good for there time, but apple needs to move quicker than they usually do and get i5 as standard and faster i7 speeds
Man...I have a 15 inch MBP, its really good for home use and stuff but its a little hassle carrying it around campus, so I'm waiting for apple to come with a tablet.
lol i complain about carrying my 13" macbook .lol. but i keep wanting to get a 15" MBP, but ye i think my macbook is heavy.lol. i really would want a tablet or macbook air,
lol well a lot of ppl beat me to it, but might as well ad my spin on things, more views from diff ppl, the better it is for ppl to buy the product, they get diff views and opinions from a large audience, so must be helpful to someone !
The iMacs now have LED Backlit displays, which the 30" Cinema Displays don't have, But the Image is pretty much the same on a 24" LED Display and the new iMacs.
No new iMacs for me i'm just sticking to my MBP+LED display combo. I've owned iMacs before and they're nice, so are the new ones but 27" is too big for me and 21.5 inches is not worth it without i5 options and is consequently no better than what i have now. Plus i like portability
Oh...i'm also broke. If anything i'll just upgrade my current MBP to 8GB o RAM + an SSD in the future to boost longevity. Unless the Arrandale MBPs really impress me, i don't see myself getting a new mac for a while.
I like the "chin" being a bit smaller but still being there. Otherwise, it'd just look like an LCD display. I really like the new large display and the ability to do video input, that's a huge feature, but I'm still happy with my 3.06ghz 24" iMac that I got last summer.
i feel like apple is trying to make the imac evolve into an apple tv like system. right now seems like the start of this. possibly if they come out with a 30" + version that this could be possible to use as your tv/computer/digital hub. that would be really sick.
It sort of ties in with your comment about Apple possibly venturing in to the television market. Since a lot more feature films are being captured in 2K it makes sense.
if u got i7 it would be future proof, not like core2duo, so if u can cough up the cash get i5 or i7 or wait till we get more updates, and price cuts HOPEFULLY, but doubtful with all this recession goin on...
I think they are getting bloody lazy. When Apple came out with something "new" they used to come out with "new technology" standards, not just mere bigger size and power. And who cares about the extra resolution if they are not going to support it through Blu Ray and higher HD streaming? Yes, small things are worth a lot and Apple is charging every penny for it.
What I really don't like is the mix of white an black/aluminium! See, the the cable is white, the magic mouse and the keyboard also. On the other hand the MacBook Pro and the iMac (the device self) is black and silver.... it simply doesn't fit....
so what do u think ? maybe intro some black into the other products, keyboard and mouse ? i could see black keys on the wireless keyboard, not sure about mouse though..? any ideas anyone ?
black keyboard would be great... I also think there will be an aluminium UNIVERSAL DOCK, in the german apple store you can't order it anymore... And also the cable for new Macbook is silver now, isn't it? Stupid, because MB is white...lol
I don't know if I would say they are green, they seem to use between 134 watts to 350 watts. the thing that might be bad about the quad core imac is heat.
ye, lol if i got a mac pro it would be for youtube videos so i can do 1080p video editing and because i want multiple hard drives and multiple screens,
ye, trust me, money is not my main issue but who knows, as much as i want the mac pro, i have a feeling because of the nature of my career in the future, i think ill just get a fully spec MBP, im thinking either 15 or 17" then get a MBA, use the 17 as a desktop replacement, cause i think ill be travelling a lot in the future, not sure yet though...
thoughts and opinions cant be late, as long as there different i guess there relevant, but yes i would have liked to get this video out earlier, but hey youtube is 2nd priority
I agree with most of the things you say in this video. Your wrong about some of the resolution terminology. There's no such resolution as 1440p. I also cannot believe you said that 1080p is too small. A lot of people have far bigger resolutions than that and it is fantastic for productivity!
ye i should have said, resolution of 2560 x 1440, oh trust me 1080p a lot of ppl dont like using it because fonts and things are small, very small, it does annoy a little bit, but its not a big deal, but its still an issue, a lot of other sites say similar things in terms of 1080p.
I'm getting the 27" i5 in a day or 2...just a little worried about the screen flicker issues and Flash performance issues.

it will be like it got i5 i7 then next to come out is i9 maby early next year
KOLTON545 2 years ago
Again, why would they use a desktop CPU in a workstation? They will stick with Nehalem Xeons untill the 32nm Sandy bridge chips become available.

Man...I have a 15 inch MBP, its really good for home use and stuff but its a little hassle carrying it around campus, so I'm waiting for apple to come with a tablet.
haji9891 2 years ago
lol i complain about carrying my 13" macbook .lol. but i keep wanting to get a 15" MBP, but ye i think my macbook is heavy.lol. i really would want a tablet or macbook air,
DRBUK 2 years ago
Yes, I can't wait for apple to come out with a tablet, hopefully this coming january...The Air is really nice, but a little pricey :(

lol well a lot of ppl beat me to it, but might as well ad my spin on things, more views from diff ppl, the better it is for ppl to buy the product, they get diff views and opinions from a large audience, so must be helpful to someone !

which has a better screen , the cinema display or the new imacs?
maniacwithagun767 2 years ago
The iMacs now have LED Backlit displays, which the 30" Cinema Displays don't have, But the Image is pretty much the same on a 24" LED Display and the new iMacs.
iDicks 2 years ago
The new iMacs are really nice, but I'm a college student I don't really need a desktop
haji9891 2 years ago
i agree wit that.. but i must admit being at uni.. i really enjoy coming home to my imac from using my netbook
Seanuk 2 years ago
im getting the 21.5 in december
theapplefreak23 2 years ago
i agree i like the chin on the imacs i actually like the design of the imacs better then the cinema display
Mangster29 2 years ago
im getting the lowest end iMac soon maybe next year after ilife10 has come out
awrc64 2 years ago
No new iMacs for me i'm just sticking to my MBP+LED display combo. I've owned iMacs before and they're nice, so are the new ones but 27" is too big for me and 21.5 inches is not worth it without i5 options and is consequently no better than what i have now. Plus i like portability
Oh...i'm also broke. If anything i'll just upgrade my current MBP to 8GB o RAM + an SSD in the future to boost longevity. Unless the Arrandale MBPs really impress me, i don't see myself getting a new mac for a while.
Shawshank00 2 years ago
yep, same.lol. i dont plan on getting another laptop for a while, so i will just up the ram to 4GB and then install an SSD
DRBUK 2 years ago
So happy to see you again :)
Can't wait to see the other ones :)

if they got rid of the chin the apple logo could go on the black border like on the cinema displays

I like the "chin" being a bit smaller but still being there. Otherwise, it'd just look like an LCD display. I really like the new large display and the ability to do video input, that's a huge feature, but I'm still happy with my 3.06ghz 24" iMac that I got last summer.

The only thing that bothers me is that iMacs use mobile graphics cards. It would be much better if they could fit a desktop graphics card in there.
blackghost1011 2 years ago
i feel like apple is trying to make the imac evolve into an apple tv like system. right now seems like the start of this. possibly if they come out with a 30" + version that this could be possible to use as your tv/computer/digital hub. that would be really sick.

Yeah the speakers are LOUD. And they sound amazingly good! LIstened to them in the Apple Store. It was great. IMO.

Nice vid! Missed your elaborate videos!
The new iMacs are very cool. Stunning 27" screen.
Dunnowad2name 2 years ago
With the 27inch iMac's screen resolution being 2560 by 1440 pixels. Apple is trekking in the realm of digital cinema aka 2K & 4K
IridiumVIII 2 years ago
ye i heard about this 2k and 4k, i really dont know enough on this, i should read up on this ! thanks for mentioning that !
DRBUK 2 years ago
It sort of ties in with your comment about Apple possibly venturing in to the television market. Since a lot more feature films are being captured in 2K it makes sense.
IridiumVIII 2 years ago
Good video, DRBUK.
I really like the new iMac, the 27 inch model is the one to get.. Saw one today, incredible screen.
I'm getting one when my Dell PC dies... Just not sure if i need a i5 or i7, hard to tell the differences in performance.
Would have been nice with a bluray drive, but not essensial, when i have a PS3 and a 42" HD TV (maybe next gen iMac)
Anyone know the specs of the build-in iSight? Cant find any info on the web...
bobafett2007dk 2 years ago
if u got i7 it would be future proof, not like core2duo, so if u can cough up the cash get i5 or i7 or wait till we get more updates, and price cuts HOPEFULLY, but doubtful with all this recession goin on...
DRBUK 2 years ago
I believe it shoots in 640 by 480.

how's uni adrian?
0501701 2 years ago
ye its busy as hell.lol. not really hard, jus busy
DRBUK 2 years ago
I think they are getting bloody lazy. When Apple came out with something "new" they used to come out with "new technology" standards, not just mere bigger size and power. And who cares about the extra resolution if they are not going to support it through Blu Ray and higher HD streaming? Yes, small things are worth a lot and Apple is charging every penny for it.

What I really don't like is the mix of white an black/aluminium! See, the the cable is white, the magic mouse and the keyboard also. On the other hand the MacBook Pro and the iMac (the device self) is black and silver.... it simply doesn't fit....
heikoal 2 years ago
so what do u think ? maybe intro some black into the other products, keyboard and mouse ? i could see black keys on the wireless keyboard, not sure about mouse though..? any ideas anyone ?
DRBUK 2 years ago
black keyboard would be great... I also think there will be an aluminium UNIVERSAL DOCK, in the german apple store you can't order it anymore... And also the cable for new Macbook is silver now, isn't it? Stupid, because MB is white...lol
heikoal 2 years ago
Great vid as usual, exploring all possible areas of the new iMacs.
I was going to get one anyway and with the education discount and these new changes its a lot easier decision to make
SiddifOnline 2 years ago
I don't know if I would say they are green, they seem to use between 134 watts to 350 watts. the thing that might be bad about the quad core imac is heat.
ASCII808 2 years ago
The apple logo could be displayed like the cinema display, no? My new iMac speakers seem laggy for some reason.

I hardly think you would have full use for a Mac Pro.
AUSmactec 2 years ago
ye, lol if i got a mac pro it would be for youtube videos so i can do 1080p video editing and because i want multiple hard drives and multiple screens,
DRBUK 2 years ago
ok fair enough. hey its your money.lol.
AUSmactec 2 years ago
ye, trust me, money is not my main issue but who knows, as much as i want the mac pro, i have a feeling because of the nature of my career in the future, i think ill just get a fully spec MBP, im thinking either 15 or 17" then get a MBA, use the 17 as a desktop replacement, cause i think ill be travelling a lot in the future, not sure yet though...
DRBUK 2 years ago
your 15 days late. lol

I have the 24" and I got the BluTooth Keyboard and Mouse and it works flawlessly. Never faulted.
AUSmactec 2 years ago
I agree with most of the things you say in this video. Your wrong about some of the resolution terminology. There's no such resolution as 1440p. I also cannot believe you said that 1080p is too small. A lot of people have far bigger resolutions than that and it is fantastic for productivity!
Tom
tomrogers123 2 years ago
ye i should have said, resolution of 2560 x 1440, oh trust me 1080p a lot of ppl dont like using it because fonts and things are small, very small, it does annoy a little bit, but its not a big deal, but its still an issue, a lot of other sites say similar things in terms of 1080p.
