stayed there in march 2008 , on the floor above where you filmed, saw a pretty good 50 person fight off the "balcony" , people getting hit by bottles and cars, was pretty raging. Even though it looks bleak from the window, the memories i have while staying there will stay with me forever.
@britishsmoke Wow, this sounds scary! And yes during a week there, I also saw young Arab-looking group was trying to fight some young local-looking bypassers (at daylight), mid 30s-40s man, also Arab-looking, not tall but very calm and self-confident stood on their way and managed to calm them down. Had much better time staying at Queensway.
@kuzmeech I kinda liked the urban vibe, it only would've been scary had i been down in the street, instead of drunk on the "balcony" (more of a roof type thing, have to crawl out of the window to stand on it)
Right, or later I've found pack of decent hotels near Queensway tube station/Hyde Park for similar price with breakfast included (namely it was Henry VIII hotel)

@kuzmeech i came to hear drum n bass on massive sound systems in the culture that inspired it, including the graffitti , arabic music, and junk.
only reason i ended up at buckingham palace is because my taxi driver didn't know where this record shop i was trying to visit was at

should stay at the queens park hotel and ask for a room facing the back. online price was about £50/night when i went.

Dull view for the price, eh? I'm booked in there in August this year. Ah well.. it's cheaper than some places.
