  • Hi, I'm sorry, my English it's not well enoght to understand all your "lecture", but I really like your video.

    Bye.

    Alfonso (from Alicante, Spain)

  • Good going guys If you can enjoy that close reaching you can enjoy anything

Thanks for the idea with the fender seat.

    Monitor wind vane for president.

    Do well Will.

  • What's goin' on, what's happnin' brother?

    You still in PR?

  • Hello, @lackawannakid... Modern Geographic has been leading Sailing Expeditions in the Caribbean. This year we've led 10 Expeditions covering the following nations: Puerto Rico, Spanish Virgin Islands, USVI, BVI, Anguilla, St. Martin, Sint Maarten, St. Kitts/Nevis, Montserrat, Bermuda, and Portugal. Solstice has really come through for us and she's been such a great offshore sailing yacht for training my clients in ocean sailing and navigation. We're based in the British Virgin Islands.

  • looks like a beautiful day.

Question for you, are you sailing with a monitor wind vane?

If so, did you have it connected and in use for your nightmare riding the gulf stream in April '07?

I ask because I wonder how mine will perform in the same situation if I found myself there...

  • Hello, @anafan8888... Yes, in fact Solstice's MONITOR windvane was in use during this video. It works great in these conditions! I believe you'll have great luck using your Monitor in similar conditions.

  • I spent 2 years fixing an Allied Seabreeze 35 and your videos motivate me to use it. Keep it up, bro.

  • We'll be looking forward to more vids.

We looked at a cape dory 36 today, considering purchase, looking for a westsail 32 in my neighborhood.

    happy sailing

  • dude,

you are a very sharp cat.

i enjoy the way you think.

    are you still actively sailing?

  • lackawannakid! Thanks for your kind comment... it's always a pleasure to be understood.

Yes, I'm still actively sailing; in fact, Modern Geographic is departing on it's first Caribbean Sea Sailing Expedtion. On April 24, 2009 we'll sail for two weeks, departing from Fajardo, PR... sailing direct to Grenada... then sailing north along the Windward Islands... eventually sailing downwind under spinnaker to arrive at PR on May 8, 2009.

  • I'm leading the expedition and teaching offshore voyaging along the way. Keep an eye out for future Modern Geographic expeditions... THANKS!

  • I just recently delivered a Allied Seawind thirty to Saint Croix and know exactly what you went through. Same conditions and same course, the atlantic was kicking our transom pretty hard but we survived, look at the vids that I posted and you will see the wave conditions from the five systems that was turning up the atlantic last march. We surfed the boat into San Juan on top of a very large roller 35+ and the coasties shut the harbor off to incoming traffic right after our arrival, great vid.

  • doritoes!

  • Type of Boat? Thanks for the video.

  • Hello keithorr! The boat was custom-built by me from a Cape George 31 bare-hull. Built from 1991 to '02; there are 7,000 labor hours in the construction project. Thanks for commenting--glad you enjoyed the video!

  • Fantastic video. the narration, giving us lat/long and your desired path to your destination...not to mention, great photography... Wow! Excellent!

  • pretty good vid....good naration through out..having done 9 atlantic crossing myself, makes me wanna leave the land and head out to sea again

  • Great video. Can't wait til someday gets here for me.
