  • @1995hellrider XNA is a framework not a software. create.msdn.com

  • oh man... i cant believe im going to have to waste my time with these disgusting physics at school :S ut2004 has better physics than this garbage and its from 2003... -_-

  • @TheWarKeeper That would depend on the developer on how well they can program. not the library

  • Good Work! It's great to playing this great Game again after all the time!

  • @SledgeNE Yess hope hi gets this game finished then remake nfs2 nfs 3 nfs 4 lol :D

  • OMG you've just brought back my memories!!!

  • You took NFS 1, remaid it with XNA but keeped the textures... you don't know how awesome you to many of us true old school gamers :)

  • whoa, i really wanna learn xna but all the people on youtube just tell you what to type and not what it means, and my school teaches you how to make games using GAME MAKER. >.<

  • @EpilepticElbow well, your lucky then, my school teaches us the simplest elements of web design, the shit you can google and learn in five minutes

  • @EpilepticElbow if u can programming with C# or a related language here's a good tutorial. riemers.net it's easy to understand learned a lot from this site

  • Thumbs up for a stupid cop car at 0:30

  • you made physics by yourself or used engine?

  • why didnt u remake it ..with better graphics? would be AWESOME!!

  • nice physics!!

  • wow. this is where is all started, this NFS version is still my favorite. EA needs to go back to its roots.

  • ate q é bom

  • I have XP, it crashes every time I wanna start a new one...?

does it even work on xp´?

  • looks like shockwave or n64

  • Funny, I'm watching this, WHILE I'm listening to the Original Soundtrack from this game!

I play this game every now and then, it may not be exact, but it still brings memories back, thank you SO much for making this!

  • i can run it on a netbook?

    (VRY LOW GRPHICS)

    srry for my english

  • no damage?

  • Such a pleasure to play this game again!

Interested in any bug feedback (are you planning a v1.2?)

How long would it take to port NFS2SE? (Now that the code is written, importing car/track models and specifications would be long ?)

    Thanks again!

  • @mactipiak From what I'm getting in the attempt of getting him to convert NFS2SE to NFS3, I don't think he'll be doing it.

  • I love the old graphics! Just think, if they made a game with these graphics nowadays, how much you could have going on at the same time! Gotta have the old music too!

  • Awesome work.

  • i luv square cars :P

  • i used to love this game =)

  • Any chance of this being open source under, I dunno, GPL license? I wonder because I have worked on several projects like this, for the sole purpose of bringing the games back to be playble on modern computers / hand held devices on several platforms and am currently working on ThemePark, with the next projects coming up being GTA ( the first ), Sub-Culture, CarmaGeddon, and after seeing this, NFS1.

  • @Tomaz82 yes I do keep meaning to release the source code under GPL. I have created a google code page but have not had a chance to publish the code yet.

  • @1amStudios That is awesome news and I really look forward to when that happends :) I see great things coming out of this in the future :)

  • @1amStudios ffs anything but GPL. MIT, Apache, BSD, take your pick.

  • @1amStudios damn it do it fast xD

  • @1amStudios DO EET!!!

  • @1amStudios What is the status of this code?

  • 1:22 (DEEDOO) :P

  • someone has worked this game?

After of installing it on my pc appeared the program 'dfsvc.exe' as I have read somewhere is a worm that spreads via the Internet.

    Is this true?

  • thnxs ~ any II versions ~

  • Why not slightly redesign the car models add some crazy effects to the game and release it on XBL as an original game? All that work to recreate someone else's game? I don't get it.

  • looks like the handling is really good but man do the graphics suck ASS

  • inmagine if this would have been created in 1994 or 1995 by EA they would be siting in gold and tink how would nfs shift come out?

    srry for english

  • looks like ur car has no wheels D:

  • The maps dont load on my PC :(

  • 1:22 Dedoo!

  • omg i wanna cry...memmories...!

  • Dude nice man I can play th eorginal NFS on XP, lol without dosbox...just wanna know, I can't pla yyour version, or it will not start...will it today again..but help me anyway :) good job

  • I hate that you cant crush with cars

  • Holy cow... that's amazing!

  • you know, looking at this and nfs 2 (and 4-5) you have to wonder what the hell they were thinking with the games later in the series...

  • Hi. My friends and I are trying to make a racing game for PC using XNA and were wondering if you used a wheel to play this and which one?

    Thanks

  • I'm sorry, I was talking about the original TNFS, haha

but yours is in donwlaod process right now^^

    Great work

  • Hey, I got it too

But I can't hear any sounds

    WIN XP

  • thanks for remaking that great game!! :)

i wrote you on your website

    greetings! 5*

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!1

I waited for decades for this game to be remade!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it fully playable ? I mean are the physics rights, does the steering wheel works and is the super slick menus with the ultra cool videos and showcases included?

  • If you create a Remake of a game can you somehow burn it onto a dvd not to sell just to play on the Xbox 360 ? one more question , can you make a game with a full story that takes like atleast 3 hours to complete ?

    PLEASE REPLY

  • @WiggyRap:

You can, but your Xbox needs a modchip first.

  • oh ok thanks alot

  • classic! I spent hours on the original NFS. Loved the crashes and being able to do burnouts / doughnuts.

  • Outstanding work! Isn't it cool that you can reuse the original files?

  • @mclricardo thanks! Yep I love looking at weird file formats and using them :) Would have been far less work if I didn't use them though

  • @1amStudios Will you ever go further , and try to improve the graphics ? At least adding some post-processing (HDR, MotionBlur) ,if you can't bother adding specularity or reflections on those old textures.

  • looks better than big rigs :P

  • hehe I guess I'll take that as a compliment... :)

  • Will this ever be on Xbox Live?

  • No, theres the copyright issue for starters :(

  • @1amStudios Copyright Issues? Just re-name the damn thing, and if you were using the old textures, just re-make them (They'll also look cooler). Problem solved.

  • @1amStudios couldnt you just contact the original copyright holders and ask them? They could make some profit from it and so could you and others...new money for old rope? Why not? Beckham does it! So does Tony Blair...why not video games licences. Nice work BTW!

  • @ogicabp4u if it only whas that easy hehe i understand what you mean but ea probly got he sued and ended this project they seems not to listen so mutch on fans alott of god old nfs player form first game whant a remake of eks the older ones either 100% like or with modern grapic ea listning to fans on ssx francise but not on nfs seems so far atleast+ first nfs game whasn`t youst ea it whas ea canada+pioneer+Road&Track magazine so if ea does have 100& copyright or license onlu ea knows. :)

  • I still have my original CD :P Great work, I really hope you'll finish this (with collisions etc..)

  • wow nice job.

  • great job!

  • where do i download the XNA Program u used?

  • You need to know C# programming language.

The compiler and SDK can be downloaded from microsoft xna site, basically you need:

    - Visual C# 2008 Express Edition (compiler)

    - XNA Game Studio 3.1 (the XNA SDK framework)

    The tools are free.

  • At the end i really thought some device was unplugged :D nice work

  • I love you man <3

    (not in a gay way)

  • could you do the same with grand prix 2, btw?

  • great work, but I guess we can only hope ea make a true remake since they're so busy with those lame trendy fast & furious need for speeds

  • Its cool having this game in 3d. hope it gets finished with all the options for racing , including collision detection ect. (so i can run it in vista) i currently have the original game (se) installed on an older p3 600mhz , with a 64mb radeon 7000ve.

  • Admittedly I only really got into the series with Carbon (Wii/360 versions), but my dad still has all the old PSX versions so I've been playing a bit of them... man the series has come a long way!

But best of luck on finishing this, hopefully I'll have some way of checking it out!

  • the best need for speed

  • I love it! I'm one of the people who loved NFS 1 and 2 more than anything that followed since then [4 and 5 being the last 2 that were pretty good].

  • yea... all of those new NFS games were just going downhill... and pro street was just the "necksnapper"... I like this one and nfs 2 SE (was there ever a normal edition? lol) best... from there things were turning worse

  • I love this. This is better than all of the new NFS games; souped-up cars, drag racing, whatever.. Gimme the good old NFS!

If there's anything graphics-related that I can do for this game, I'd be glad to give it a shot. Accurate high-resolution re-creations of original game art assets, textures, menus, UIs, HUDs, logos, anything! Just send me a YouTube message if there is anything. :-)

  • Amazing work! Congrats. I'll be checking it out. I've always been a fan of the NFS series.

  • Hey man I've got a test it, just wondering if you could mod the code and make it into a game for the test kit like an xex file?

  • Bugs, bugs, bugs =)

  • Great job! NFS 1 was one of my favourite games.

  • hey, good job!XNA guy!I have my job done ,too.you are wellcome to my vedio,my physics !my game named "tripistar"!

  • Wow - this is so great and brings back alot of memories - thanks to your dedication to this project. Really, really wonderful stuff!

I did notice tho that on Alpine - the Elk turned into a signpost. Also you have removed the texture warping - it's funny seeing it all so pin sharp :) Also you need the "Aeeeeiiiiaaaah" music to go along with the sound effects. More speed in the cars and more powersliding. Thumbstick press = horn and you have a winner!

This project is simply top draw!

  • Thanks :) It brought a lot of memories back for me too - the first time I got a recognizable track on the screen was a cool moment :)

The elk / elk-warning-signpost on Alpine is a strange one... I wonder if it was an inside joke because that animation IS in the original track data! Obviously it didn't happen in the real game though, so its possible my view of the file format isn't quite right!

  • No, he is not.

This is a _fangame_ he created as a remake of the original game.

Though the data (models, textures) are not his, the application itself is.

  • Exactly. You need permission to be spreading around those data files.

    Regardless, nice work.

  • Well, I can't deny that.. You're right

The ideal approach is to distribute the application, and tell the user that he still needs the original nfs to copy the data from; instead of including it with the zipped package

  • Well, there's the "letter of the law" and then there is the "spirit of the law". Technically, of course, the art assets have copyrights. But there's more to the issue.

However, if a game has not been in production for many years and is unavailable (by virtue of technology progression, not developer desire for obscurity), is it really an issue that needs to be pursued? Is this going to hurt Need For Speed 1, even in the remotest sense? Of course not.

  • Deploying the original data files is something I don't feel completely comfortable with - however, the game is now ~14 years old, won't run on Windows XP and is not available in stores. I don't believe I am hurting the sales of EA or Pioneer Productions - only reproducing in a small way the experience that was so much fun back in the day!

I only have the original CD still because I didn't get around to throwing it away :P

  • Dont some of the value city stores sell psx games?

  • Great job dude. But I agree with TledgEs you should of crashed it. :P

  • i thought it was great

Im sure that alot of people watching cant appreciate why this is great

I wish you wouldve crashed into a car though cause i wanted to see how the physics would deal with it but o well.

  • Heh, its because of how the physics would deal with it that there are no player-traffic crashes! I actually only added traffic last week

  • Haha, understandable

Are you planning on polishing this up and adding some stuff to create your own game?

Perhaps to be distribute via xbox?

  • Thanks, I've fixed the download link. It had been sitting there for a while waiting for me to actually upload the zip file! Yes I think I will release the source code - needs a bit of tidying up first though :)

  • Please release it, because it will help a lot of guys to go into the right direction. I am waiting for something like this for a while now.

    Thank you. Great work!

  • the link insn´t working :S

  • The download link is not working.

Are you going to release the code also?
