  • This....was where it all started for me. From the first anime marathon on Sci Fi Channel (not the stupid Sy Fy as it is now X( ), along with the other releases from Central Park Media at the time, this along with Dominion Tank Police have been, for me, the gateway to becoming an otaku through and through.

  • I saw this on the Sci Fi Channel between 1995 and 1997, when I was baby-sitting (I was about 13 or 14 years old). I just remembered seeing a 1980s anime (I never watched animae back then and still don't like it) but couldn't quite wrap my brain around which one it was...until I saw the "late for school" scene at the beginning of this review. That triggered the memory of this. I actually remember finding this funny back then. Maybe I will give this another shot. Great review! :-)

  • Holy Hell, after all these years, I see what Mari's fighting style is ripped right off of Kenichiro from "Fist of the North Star". I wonder if the animator's were the same?...

    Off to Google!

  • anime worked 4 me..

  • Nice job. Hmmm...Project A-ko? Never heard of this one (man, I really need to get out more). Looks pretty good for its time, and the clips you showed, especially when the blond girl got kidnapped and was worried about the lunch...that made me lol. I sense a bit of a yuri vibe in this one (w/the main characters, and the blue-haired girl wanting the blond for herself). I'll check it out sometime.

  • And yes, dubbing is usually very bad...They lack emotions and most of the time the voices aren't very fitting. That's why subs are the only way to go.

    Dubs should be shot. The only dub i saw that was passable was Orphen. >>;;

Your review was fun to watch but...

    Why does everyone want c-ko?

    she doesn't seem that impressive...

  • Holy shi...

That big dude is a girl? O_O

    scary...

  • lol i still ave this on DVD

  • I remember watching this on sci fi back when the it use to aired anime on Saturday.

    I even read a Project A-ko comic.

  • @Neoguest Me Too!! too bad they had to edited most of them. But this was back in 1996-1998 you couldn't get away with a lot that content on basic cable back then like you can now.

  • You're a good reviewer. You're very spot on, you point out all the good points and bad points very nicely, and you try to be fair. Project A-ko was really weird, but you gotta love B-ko. What a hottie!

  • the first anime I ever saw...with one of the GREATEST cat fights I`ve ever seen...this is still one of my all time favorates.

  • I thought this did come out on VHS first because I used to go to block buster and rented Project A-KO's shows but I think they have then developed them into DVD s so it would then fit today's modern ......ness or systems rather ...lol ^_^

all and all i think you did a great intake on the show and I think that you should become an anime critic.

  • The golden Age of Anime!!!

  • I have both the dvd and vhs versions of this. Question that's been bothering me is why the vhs is in letterbox while the dvd is in 4:3, why is that?

  • Who are the artists for the soundtracks again?

  • cool :3 i want to watch this movie

  • thanks for the review i have this on I saw it on tape early 90s now i have the dvd its the only anime i have

  • I watch this really long time ago

  • whats the name of that song on the begining and the end?

  • Girl Power by Shampoo

  • let me ask u something that been bugging me for years.....is superman ako's farther (reason) at the beginning ako mom was cleaning a superman suite and her dad looks just like clark + her mom looks like wonderwoman .... ako was block bullets with her braslets in one of her movies

  • Just one more thing...dude, how could you do a review that includes clips, but you didn't include the one with A-ko jumping from one missile after another (being shot from a huge space ship AT her)? In a film chock full of great moments, that sequence is by far the most memorable (and the most hilarious).

  • Well, you are entitled to which dubbing you prefer and I also like the Japanese dub better. I would have like to put that "Ako jumping from missile to missile" scene in this vid but I did not want to spoil it for people.

  • Personally speaking, this is the very first Japanese-dialog anime that I EVER watched (we're talking about 1989 or '90), and it hooked me to anime ever since. I couldn't bare to listen to English-dubs after watching and LISTENING to uncensored and unaltered Japanese animation like this. If you truly want to get the most out of viewing this DVD, you MUST set it up for Japanese dialog w/subtitles...otherwise, you're in for a downer. The English dubbing SUCKS!!!

  • Well, you are entitled to your opinion on what anime is good or not to you. By the way, if you don't like my show, you don't have to come over to my youtube site. You are better finding other anime reviewers who you feel give the opinions that you are looking for rather then listening to me.

  • Fuck Bleach.

  • Bleach is a very recent manga/anime. Project A-ko was made nearly 25 years ago, so of course there are going to be differences in some of the production values. However, to call Project A-ko "crap" is pure ignorance. The list of talents involved in it most likely include the people who made Bleach, and they include people who made titles like Macross, Urusei Yatsura, and later ones like Evangelion. If you were a fan of anime that preceded it, then you'd love it. You obviously aren't.

  • you are good, you are thorough, and you are correct. it would not hurt if you posted links to your recommended anime or even got another lamp.

  • gonna give this a watch you should review akira next :-D!

  • I will see what I can do.

  • awesome review. i remember seeing this on the scifi channel 10 years ago

  • Good for you, dude.

  • 2:24 Fist Of The North Star reference

  • I love Fist of the North Star.

  • great review once again glad i subscribed!

  • And thank you for subsribing.

  • great review.

  • Thank you.

  • I agree with your review Hard! This is a great film, and I enjoyed the way they parody many other anime genres. 5/5.

  • Thanks, dude. I gotta admit, your new youtube account name reminds me of my old account when I started "Hards Anime Review". Sad that I lost that account.

  • gd review

  • Thanks.
