No, the Germans didn't save lives in that way- they were trying to eradicate races, their murder industry was almost an end in itself, and their skilful defensive fighting in 44-45 cost even more lives as it prolonged the war.

WW2 was decided by industrialized nations mobilizing their resources, but fighting terror doesn't- and hasn't worked in this way. The bombs saved far more Japanese lives than Allied. Look at the civilian death toll on Okinawa,or the mass suicides on Guam or Saipan- the mainland would have been far worse. Japanese medical orderlies were being trained to become suicide bombers in the hospital in Hiroshima at the very moment the bomb detonated.

Plenty of material from the Nazis has survived, plenty of accounts of the American Civil War, or WWI or the war in Spain, the Boer war or pretty much any war you can name are written by or sympathetic to the losing side.

Well yes, you are wrong. The Empire was not a murder factory. Life expectancy was higher in British-administered Indian states than in those run by the Maharajas. Life expectancy was higher in (for on example) Kenya than in the Congo.
As for the 1 million or so 'volunteers' (not all of whom can be called that) in the wehrmacht, two points:
1- There were far more foreign volunteers who fought for the allies
2- Their actions are rightly recalled with shame in their home countries.

The Boer war is an excellent example of what I'm talking about. I have several accounts of that war by African authros, just as I have Paulus' account of Stalingrad and tonnes on both sides of the Spanish war. Any number of books by British or Afrikaner authors on the subject. If you're interested I'd recommend Thomas Pakenham's as the definitive work. Andre Wessels is also interesting. Go to the library, they'll help you for free.

The Mainland would have seen many more deaths from both of these, as well as the deaths of many Allied (not only US) troops, who were mostly civilians in uniform.

May be the split in my reply made it read wrong. Elite force or special forces? To my understanding there is a difference. The SS were a elite guard in the beging as far as Im aware they were never called a special force they evolved into different divisions eg panza, infantry engineers. The main two special forces were the Brandenburg Div and the Abwehr. Brandenburg was under Abwehr 2 special units and sabotage. All 3 Abwehr units were answerable to Admiral Canaris.
compare the other elite forces from the same timeline from around the world. Not by todays standards but from 1933 to 1945. As a serving soldier it would be interesting to see where you make the comparisons and why the other elite services were better??? With modern eyes and knowledge its easy to see where the mistakes where made but thats how we make a difference in the future. This is where we learn to change equipment, vehicles and treatment of the the serving forces by others mistakes.
Certainly during the war the SOE, SAS and the British commandos were definitely better than the SS.
They were used mainly for sabotage and reconnaissance, and used the bare minimum of resources. They were also very unpopular with the top brass, because they didn't salute, march up and down the square, but they got the job done.

What an odd interpretation of events- how was Austria part of pre-WW1 Germany? Britain declared war because Hitler kept on invading other countries despite being warned not to. Nothing is 100% good vs. evil but WW2 is probably as close as you'll find in history.

WW2 was decided by industrialized nations mobilizing their resources, but fighting terror doesn't- and hasn't worked in this way. The bombs saved far more Japanese lives than Allied. Look at the civilian death toll on Okinawa,or the mass suicides on Guam or Saipan- the mainland would have been far worse. Japanese medical orderlies were being trained to become suicide bombers in the hospital in Hiroshima at the very moment the bomb detonated.

'History is written by the victor' is easily said, catchy and memorable but means very little. Plenty of material from the Nazis has survived, plenty of accounts of the American Civil War, or WWI or the war in Spain, the Boer war or pretty much any war you can name are written by or sympathetic to the losing side.
The fact is that the Nazis were revealed for what they were, and the society that supported them paid the price.

Well yes, you are wrong. The Empire was not a murder factory. Life expectancy was higher in British-administered Indian states than in those run by the Maharajas. Life expectancy was higher in (for on example) Kenya than in the Congo.
As for the 1 million or so 'volunteers' (not all of whom can be called that) in the wehrmacht, two points:
1- There were far more foreign volunteers who fought for the allies
2- Their actions are rightly recalled with shame in their home countries.

I have several accounts of that war by African authros, just as I have Paulus' account of Stalingrad and tonnes on both sides of the Spanish war. Any number of books by British or Afrikaner authors on the subject. If you're interested I'd recommend Thomas Pakenham's as the definitive work. Andre Wessels is also interesting. Some were killed in bombardments, many were 'encouraged' to fight and then kill themselves, blowing themselves up with grenades or throwing themselves from cliffs (banzai cliff, Suicide cliff, Guam, Tarawa). The Mainland would have seen many more deaths from both of these, as well as the deaths of many Allied (not only US) troops, who were mostly civilians in uniform.

May be the split in my reply made it read wrong. Elite force or special forces? To my understanding there is a difference. The SS were a elite guard in the beging as far as Im aware they were never called a special force they evolved into different divisions eg panza, infantry engineers. The main two special forces were the Brandenburg Div and the Abwehr. Brandenburg was under Abwehr 2 special units and sabotage. All 3 Abwehr units were answerable to Admiral Canaris.

compare the other elite forces from the same timeline from around the world. Not by todays standards but from 1933 to 1945. As a serving soldier it would be interesting to see where you make the comparisons and why the other elite services were better??? With modern eyes and knowledge its easy to see where the mistakes where made but thats how we make a difference in the future. This is where we learn to change equipment, vehicles and treatment of the the serving forces by others mistakes.

Certainly during the war the SOE, SAS and the British commandos were definitely better than the SS.
They were used mainly for sabotage and reconnaissance, and used the bare minimum of resources. They were also very unpopular with the top brass, because they didn't salute, march up and down the square, but they got the job done.
Certainly my idea of an elite force did exist, not before 1939 I grant you.

Sturm! Please make a vid that explains to the idiots that have no idea what units fought in battles and the difference between SD/SS/Gestapo personel. Also the SS Women in the pictures are NOT KZ gaurds (concentration camp) The uniforms show they were SS Hilferin (Clarks, Radio ops, secretarys etc) The KZ had a slightly different colour uniform and no round SS pocket badge( no insignia).

The best army on mass (who actually fought a war) were the Wehrmacht in the early part of the war when they used field command, and the Isreali army, who use field command.

It all depends on what you think is an elite force is, in modern standards the Waffen SS should really be compared to Saddam's, "Republican Guard".
Although a lot more brave, or stupid.
As for Brandenburg division yes they were excellent in the early part of the war, but so was the whole German Army, what they achieved with only the illusion of superior weapons will never be repeated, so their elite division was bound to be good.

Bullshit. Every human being has a duty to follow their own conscience. You can't commit atrocities and genocide, and then simply turn around and say "I simply followed orders". Every individual is responsible for their own actions, just as every person in a democracy is responsible for the party that comes to power. no she had 5 brothers 1 was in the army before the war started and stayed in till the end 2 was drafted into the Heer and 1 drafted into the ss and killed in italy 5 weeks late. before they was drafted they would help downed Allied pilots out of the country and get them into safe hands they was being watched by the ss and the ss made many searches on their home.

Other than the Einstatzgruppen and camp guards, the regular Waffen SS soldiers should indeed have gotten full military pensions.
It is a crime how historians from the victors labeled all the Waffen SS as butchers.
Perhaps it is partially due to the fact that 'one on one'...no unit of any country measured up to the Waffen SS,.....and all the nationalities that fought within it.

Yes there was a distinct difference between the vicious SS Tobenkopf (camp guards), Einsatzgruppen, SA and SD from the regular Waffen SS. True, some of the Waffen SS were Nazi extremists who, by their beliefs and/or actions were no better than the aforementioned mass murderers and camp guards, but many of them only fought for their country and, regardless of what people think of Nazism, should respect these non-Nazis who were only defending their country.

I am not a neo-Nazi, I hate them along with the evil Nazis. The SS camp guards and Gestapo are hopefully all burning in hell right now. And no, not all the Waffen SS were Nazis by beliefs, although many were indeed fanatical extremists who were just as bad as the SS-TV, some were also only fighting for their country and had no Nazi beliefs. Many of the original volunteers were indeed evil Nazi extremists, but during the last years of the war many were drafted, some of them were not Nazis at all.

DUH! Waffen means armed or weapon so when u put it with the SS it is the name of the combat unit that was made.The Waffen SS were different than the SS guards!
