Well, we have already heard Alfredo Kraus and those other guys. Let us hear Oliver now. And so the way to be secure is to sing for yourself. Just sing to make yourself happy. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It matters most what Oliver thinks. Who else is going to tell you that you are "good enough?" (whatever that means)
@oliveranthonyrowland Yes yes yes!!! No one else is better at singing like Oliver. I love the way you are getting this. Singing like Oliver is your job and no one else can do it. Be you! How wonderful. I love your courage. You really are inspiring. And when you sing from that place in your heart where you are Oliver, you will send your love and your joy out into the room and everyone will hear it and be touched by it. I'm so happy to have met you.
Thanks :) I didn't mean I especially want to sound like MDM, I was just exaggerating by mentioning a famously loud tenor. I would like to sound like Alfredo Kraus or Alain Vanzo or maybe Gigli, but a just slightly more secure me will do.
I will state again that I am making these very technical comments because you asked me. I do not go around bashing singers. I love singers, and I encourage you in every way possible to continue with this beautiful art. You are singing beautifully right now, and it can only get more and more beautiful as you continue to sing beautifully as you are, and to always keep beauty foremost in your mind and heart. I wish you all the best.
Thank you very much for the constructive criticism; very interesting, I'll try to bear your points in mind. I think I am a bit insecure about whether my voice is naturally good enough and sometimes do push it a little too much, though generally I do it less than in the past I think. I think I just need to remember plenty of people like my voice, it sounds fine in the right repertoire and I don't need to push. I am not Mario del Monaco or someone!
Specifically for your voice, for what I hear in this video, the vowels are generally out of alignment toward the spread or bright part of the spectrum, for example, your [i] vowel is too bright and loses tonal depth because the lower formant is weak. In addition, there is a bit of overpressuring which is driving the vocal tract out of balance. All in all, you are not getting the most complete sound out of your instrument.
(comments continued) Keep in mind that this is not a criticism. You asked me for advice, so I will tell you what I know. I nearly ruined my voice by wanting to be an opera singer and singing everything as loud as I possibly could. There are three things that saved the voice: learning to sing softly, always with beautiful tone quality, and tuning each vowel to include both upper and lower formants.
What a beautiful voice you have. And this is a very nice aria for you. You asked me to offer some comments, and so my main point is that you are singing beautifully, and so just keep singing. Enjoy singing every time you sing. Enjoy every note and every phrase. There is no need to prove anything to anyone. Sing for yourself, for your heart.
There are some technical things that may enable the voice to function with more ease.
I love it

That's true, and comparisons get boring. No one else is better at singing like me!
