La bailarina es tremenda!! Baila de muerte!!! EXcelente !!! No se quien es.. ¿quien es? Pero !coño!! la música es horrible, a donde fueron a por éso" supuestamente árabe?". Muchas gracias por el vídeo , es una bailarina estupenda!!
I'm pretty sure she also "appeared" in a 70's TV movie called "The Perfect Woman" starring Fred Willard. He plays the ruler of this intergalactic empire and, having all that power, spends the whole day in hot tubs watching stag movies - including one featuring a dance by a woman who looks & moves just like Ms. Ates. Anybody catch that flick?
She first achieved critical acclaim for her dancing in the Broadway production of "Fanny" in 1954- which led to her appearance in this film. Unfortunately, she appeared in very few movies after this....
to be honest I had not heard of Nejla before, just through a comment on a Nadia Gamal video (old) i heard of her. got curious coz i like the name ates for its meaning (i am a fire sign in astrolgoy ;D), and find her amazing. do you carry her name?
I vaguely remember her, but I do have a few photos with my dad and Nejla at her place in Manhattan in the early 60's. She was a gorgeous woman, and from what I remember, very very sweet and kind. My parents never spoke of her death, and I found out just a few years ago. I wish I could tell you more about her, but I really don't have anything to add.
At the end of the clip, her belly-button ends up peeping out above the belly chain intended to hide it. What a cool way to blast the Hays code of the times.
I love that you can actually hear her sagat. Great clip, thanks for sharing!

lifted the statue of her in Central Park, this is a great shame. Understood enough of a great artist. Nejla Ates and I am proud of the Turks.

Her second husband published a book about her. It's in Turkish though.

I gather this was edward said's favourite film. I like the line: Have you seen Sinbad as she is trying to do her enticing dance.

Unfortunately, Nejla left us too early,in 1965. However, I would love to see who this dancer you're thinking of is. Off to Google.

I think fatkat is right. Fred Willard's character was watching stag films that seemed to be from the 1950's.

Nejla was 100 % Turkish. In fact she was my godmother. She passed away when I was 7 years old.

hello. Do you have anything interesting to tell us about her? Do you remember anything about her? There is almost no info about her online.
