@KirstyGriffiths this is an aria of the Teseo character (which at that time was sung by a castrato) at the beginning of the Act II. It is the opera which is called "Arianna in Creta"

Nice performance, I'm happy good counters appear on the scene! I also prefer Hammarström in this aria, however.

P.S.: I really would like to see around more "boring" casts with people like Piau, Hammarstrom and Hallenberg...

Concerning Bartoli, I don't care when she began to sing! For me the main consideration is BEAUTY! Cencic cares about it. She - only about technique...

@CubbyNH I think we are speaking in different languages. For me singing is BEAUTY and MOVING THE HEART! It means expressive, emotional stuff, sharing SOUL! You speak only about TECHNIQUE, and now also about TACT! But nobody insults your favourites personally. We are sharing opinions about ART! For me technique is not the purpose of art, but just a means to help the beauty to shine! It's secondary! If an artist just cares about technique and doesn't share their soul, it's a bad artist for me!

@CubbyNH I don't see any parallel between Cencic and Bartoli. Cencic's singing is very beautiful and his technique is splendid! He's always been great - as a child, then as a soprano and now as a mature countertenor (mezzo)! I admire him because he cares about BEAUTY and SHARES EMOTIONS! But that somebody can sing since childhood doesn't necessarily mean that he or she does it well! If for you the MAIN criteria of greatness is only promotion then "History" already proves that Bartoli is success!

@CubbyNH As for Bartoli, Mother Nature gave her a nice face and shape, but is it the main thing that she is "a true virtuoso"?! Her voice has an awful timbre, her low notes are just ugly and sound like man's to me! There is nothing feminine in her at all when she sings! Her grimaces and manners are terrible! When artists care about BEAUTY they have EXALTED FACES! Sometimes touching, perhaps funny, but not disfigured like her! Tell me HOW great music can distort her face and make her look ugly?!

Cencic is great! No doubt about it. But doesn't PJ with his sweet empty stupid singing without any soul and sharing emotions make himself sound like an amateur?! Doesn't this fake countertenor discredit himself and counterternors' singing at all?! What he is doing with art of singing is a shame! IMO!
