the fiat engine is actually very well known in other parts of the world. there is a guy from F1 that wrote a book on how to mod them really really well. top gear sent a larda to lotus to get modified and they used that engine.
Mercedes actually made a rotary car, the Mercedes C111, so a rotary in a Mercedes is not unheard of, so Mercedes does infact have their own Rotary engine.
Infact it was a mid mounted three rotor direct fuel injected engine in 1969, and in the 70's they did a four rotor one.
FIAT!?! Why not a F20C S2000 engine? At least the car would've retained much of it's charm/character/soul/essence..

@nesticle Actually Mercedes had thier own rotary, a 3 and 4 rotor version, never made mass prod. See Mercedes C-111. Beautiful car!
