  • Amazing...

  • Let's also acknowledge the ever unsung hero of that group of artists, the lyricist. In this case, it's Tim Jensen

  • Sound divine :)

  • I LOVE the whole GITS's OST, it's THE BEST OST EVER!!!!!!!

  • I'm trying to find bands like that make music like this, anyone got suggestions to what i could look for?

  • @13Xerro some songs from Oceansize are like that, Riverside.... look for progressive post rock bands.

  • Actually the song's length is 4:44 ... and also coincidentally or purposefully 4 in some Asian country like Japan have superstitious about number 4 which is related to death or somekind of homonym to death. A fitting length for this song don't you think?

  • @DeathToNewbie Yup. "shi" - means both "death" and "four", although written by different characters

  • @DeathToNewbie Well, [death = 死] [four = 四]. Both are pronounced "shi". So sometimes Japanese regard "4" as ominous number. Though they usually don't mind. There are no rooms number 4, 104, 204 in most hospitals, it's a kind consideration for the inpatients and their families who maybe becoming nervous.

Anyway I think the length 4:44 has no meaning, it's just random :)

  • @rhapsodyblue56 After your elaboration (and many others) you came into conclusion that it was just random huh? ;)

  • @DeathToNewbie Yeah, I think so... I got a feeling like thinking thanatos from this song, but I can't think that Kanno intend to do such a cryptic play. Firstly, the image of[4 = death : 死shi ]is more ill-omen and horrible for us, so it doesn't fit the relaxed magnificent feeling of this song at all. This song has something rather heavenly. However, both of you and I love this beautiful song, don't you? ;) Sorry for my poor English.

  • @rhapsodyblue56 Of course it's heavenly; in both senses of meaning, it's about death and the music itself is harrowingly beautiful. And despite what you said before, I still think Yoko Kanno did it on purpose as music don't restricted by ill-omen.

  • @DeathToNewbie I don't deny your opinion, just wanted to say my thought. No offense. That's an interesting discovery, you maybe right. I'll enjoy the 444 mistery after this (^^)

  • @rhapsodyblue56 my friend, yoko kanno is a divine musician, hence the divine number.

  • @MrHEMPKING What's the divine number? Do you mean "4" ?

  • @rhapsodyblue56 I thought the number 4 was pronounced "yon"? Yon and Shi seem interchangeable from what I've seen. I agree with you on the other points though.

  • @ostrichanus Yes, exactly. "4" is pronounced both of "yon" and "shi " depends on the case. "Yon" is a japanese original numeral so we usually say "yon" when count something, "you-juu (40)" "yon-ko" "yon-mai" for example. "Shi" is came from a chinese pronounciation "su" for 4. We use the words "shi-gatsu (April)" "shi-tenno (4 heros)" though, there are not so much words pronounced "shi" for 4.

Well..I think the association 《shi 4 = shi 死death》 is not so traditional in japan :)

  • It's beautiful.

  • Yoko Kanno = musical goddess >_<

  • Amazing song, like the rest of the GITS ost.

  • I love this song. It's hauntingly beautiful, regretful, and hints at a glimmer of hope in waiting for loved ones beyond. Time has its effect on us all and I feel this song reflects the fact that no matter what we do, it is never recaptured or cashed in for reimbursement... Twilight, free my soul...

  • This is officially the song I wanted played at my funeral. I haven't watch the series in a good while and I still need to go watch Solid State Society. Time to get on that.

  • from GitS SAC 2nd Gig??

  • This song reminds me of my mother.

She had a cancer and refused to take a surgery. She said she didn't want toget hospitalized for the rest of her life, just want to stay with us at home as long as possible. She was not afraid of her death at all and told us sometfing like this lyric.

  • My grandma and aunt died from cancer, same with my friends mom.

    I feel you man.

  • My grandmother was the same way...she didn't want to be placed in a hospice when her cancer got worse. she wanted to die at home with dignity and with family.

  • This is just depressing. I like a lot of Yoko Kanno's other work. Especially the quirky pieces that are interesting to listen to.

  • @YouStoleMyTube heh, I think it would be a mistake to call it simply depressing, it has so much meaning to it.

  • @Auvrith Maybe... I just feel like her other pieces have much more to offer than just... Sadness.

  • @Auvrith i can see tht bcuz the song is telling u to b happy and dont worry

  • This is one of my favorite parts of GitS. The city skyline and horizon. Simply stunning.

  • agreed

  • Beautiful.

  • This is the song I want to be played when I die.

    hehe

  • DON'T FORGET ALSO STEVE CONTE

  • and don't forget Mai Yamane, Tim Jenson (he wrote the lyrics to a lot of her great english songs), Maaya Sakamoto, Raj Ramayya, Gabriela Robin (?), The Seatbelts, etc. :)

  • The seatbeltsss , greatttttt!!!!

  • Origa too

  • Don't forget Ilaria Graziano o.o

  • oh yeah defineatly

  • she's so amazing!!!! i love "i do"!

  • scott matthews voice does this shit proper

  • Genious, i love this song, and most of Kanno's work.

I love sad things and this one is one of my favs.

As for me i think that accepting death or accepting something sad with a calm or happy humour is even more sad.

  • i will havet to agree with u on there Dreiz

  • I think this song hits so hard because while the subject and mood are definitely sad, the acceptance of death has already happened - it's taking place in that ethereal, mysterious little gap between accepting death and death itself. It's not sad, but it's not uplifting...it's more like moving forward, cutting off the last few ties that are trying to hold it back.

It never ceases to amaze me how Kanno and the vocalists she works with can so perfectly convey all the nuances of each song's mood.

  • I love youtube. I keep finding great stuff by Yoko Kanno.

  • One of tha best songs I've ever heard

  • Definitely one of my fave songs. My blog is named after it :)

  • the mood of this song seems so sad, that's why it's so wonderful. thank you for the upload.

  • It does sound pretty sad...like the singer is talking about regrets and mistakes.

  • This Soung Is sweet as hell,Yokokanno Scott Nice combo

  • acabo de escuchar dos canciones de Scott y me parece increible la calidad de musico que es siendo tan joven, es como escuchar a Bowie, es un superdotado.

  • A deep and inspiring song. I just wish that more GITS episodes would come out.

  • One of my top favourite GITS songs...

  • This is a damn good song, the music is awesome.
