the wii remote picks up the infra red light from the candles, all the sensor bar does is create infra red light, so yes this does work. The reason the sensor bar has to be plugged in is because it obviously needs power, but however it has nothing to do with the motion sensing

the Wiimote uses the light of the candles for Triangulation (the sensor bar contains LEDs for that) , the actual motion along the xy-axes is realised with an acceleration sensor.

You can see that the cursor depletes, when one of those two candles is blown out. But when just one side of the sensor bar is covered the cursor is still there and you can continue to point at your screen with the remote. Now these dipshits shall tell their mistake.

When i cover one side of my sensorbar completely, the cursor is still working and the position i point at gets registrated. When the dumbfuck in the vid blows one candle out the cursor depletes. Mind you that one candle still burns at that time.

I watched this video over and over again. There are to many mistakes.

One other is that they do not show the back of the wii from the right angle. I can not see that the sensorbar is actually disconnected. And it's easy to get another bar for one or two bucks.

It's actually the WiiMote that's looking at two lights to adjust where the WiiMote is facing, not the Sensor Bar connected to the Wii. When I reflected my WiiMote to my Christmas Tree, My WiiMote actually saw and read the light off of it. =P

U guys don't know by now that the sensor bar is just a few LED the Wiimote use to judge distance. Wii powers the LED via the cord there is no data exchange from sensor bar and Wii. doesn't pass anything but small amnt of electric to power the LED. Wii and remote do all data processing. Nothing amazing about using candles. remote just needs two points of light source to judge where it is in "space". You can also use your Christmas tree, but it will act erratic because of all the light sources.
