Yeah, this movie is written by the writer of such classics as "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" Sure whatever. Let me ask you guys (CBC) this: when was WATCHMEN first released? Think hard....and I bet you don't know the real answer.
you guys are great!! keep up the good work. If you don't mind I am going to use this review as an example on my soon to be launched website as an example of a great group review of a book. I appreciate the dialogue with no cuss words or profanity. Can be a learning experience for other people on school projects, just for fun or whatever appeals to people in giving a group report. Will let you all know when we launch. Best of the Best to you. CherylWilliams, San Antonio, Tx.
I just found this group of videos and , not that you need my thumbs up, but thumbs up! I'm a life time collector and wish I had friends like you guys to talk about books!
Took my wife of 23 years to see Watchmen and she enjoyed it because I was able to explain it to her. Great series and movie!
Er... despite the fact that they're clearly trying not to piss themselves laughing while doing this? Have you ever watched any of the other reviews by these guys? They know comics. I can't believe people don't get this.

You guys missed the point of the Watchmen. For 1 its a period piece, and for 2 it tries to capture the old school detective comics and noir, which was popular back during the era of the red scare following WWII. So pretend that Marvel and DC Superheroes were why WWII became what it was. Well, in this universe, all the heroes were band, much like the Black Listing of writters in that era as a result of the RED SCARE. Maybe these guys need to follow up on American History before they comment
ARE U GUYS FUCKING RETARDED! THE COMIC WAS ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN THE 80s. So that's why the art looks old school, and Alan Moore wrote this so long ago and has written stuff like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V for Vendetta, he is now in his 70s! You guys need to defininately come out from under your rock. This didn't copy heros, heros copied this, this was a pretty new direction in comics way back in its day!
See, this is the reason why the movie works, because it's not a point of which is better, but if you understand what is happening in the story. It's obvious that they didn't understand what was going on from text... but I think the movie really does that as a different media to form the character and story.
you guys relly dont know anything about alan moore do you? the dude is in his like 70's! and the watchmen came out like 20 years ago! were the hell have you guys been?
Well, I'm just starting to get into the graphic novel scene. If you are one of those people who take pleasure in introducing your favorite graphic novels to others, then I am volunteering to give you that satisfaction.
Basically, my graphic novel list at the moment consists of Watchmen and V for Vendetta. Pathetic, I know. Feel free to point me in the right direction to what I should read next.
now htat the films out people always think watchmen is simply a movie and an adaptation of nothing, we have to remember where it all came from, hte comic, not graphic novel, comic, as it was realeased so!
I think this book was famous for being the first RAW comicbook with blood, sex, and a complex storyline that goes beyond, "oh no! Lex luther is robbing the bank again."
ive just finish reading watch men i mean the pirate bits and the bits betwwen chapters was bad but its a amazingly good book althogh im pissed off that rorsch is killed by doc manhatten
"The Guys Name is the comedian, but he doesn't say any jokes" Justin cracked me up and thats when I realised they were being sarcastic " "Pirates in the BOOK!!!" LOL
Greetings CBC, I've been following your vids for a few months now and always look forward to what you're gonna come up with next. At first, while watching this vid I thought I was having a mini-stroke, until I realized the sarcasam....You rascals. Especially, Justin he looks the most rascally. Am I right?
Aside from the time setting the idea is solid and dare i say, timeless. The back story is a "tuck load" however, its for good reason and has the appropriate effect. Don't turn readers away from it because there is "too much" reading and back story. pretty epic characters if you ask me. GO OUT AND READ IT, not all comics should be effortless reads.
i have to agree..dont pick it up its horrible.....jeez...a Comedian with no jokes?..wow...jus horrible..and toooo much reading..i agree...dont pick this up...
Yeah I get it, it's the opposite of everything you guys said. I saw the film at a midnight showing last night and I can easily say this is going to be the biggest film of 2009. It is as accurate to the comic as it could have been. Just take it as an amazing film.
this was amazing... in a way, while watching this I was like questioning myself about my childhood... when I was 15 or so I read Watchmen and it blew my mind... it was soooo great and in a way it molded the way I saw things at that time... but when I heard you trashing the novel it was like "Ooooook... my childhood is actually dead" but thanks for the comment at the end hahaha it was great
wow, for a minute there I thought maybe I somehow fell into a wormhole and ended up in some parallel opposite universe or maybe I was just unaware that it was bizzarro day or something. Thanks for clearing that up fellas!
it's as faithful a translation of the book that i think a film can be. its explicit politics are shitty and miss the subtlety of the book. it does capture the counterpoint between the dead end of triumphant reaction and lesser evilist liberal cynicism. i think moore is right and the film proves it by being such a good piece of art while failing to reach real depth. the movie's real achievement is in unifying its form with its content in inspired ways while pushing the boundaries of the genre.
Yeah, Watchmen the Film has a big buzz, probably due to sin city, 300 and the spirit having similar dark tone formats within them, but Watchmen has become more popular and well known, in my opinion, due to the fact it is all those 3 films combined into a superhero movie which has never been seen with a darker more sinister tone (apart from the Dark Knight) but it all just puts it into perspective. People want realistic superhero movies to reflect current times. Itis in 1985 butisstillas good2day
