I LOVE HIS MUSICALITY! i played this a year ago and this is the best performance ive seen since a long time! Lim Dong Hyek put a lot of emphasis in this piece that i liked. GREAT PERFORMACE!
Way too fast! Where's the music? Obviously this fellow has lots of technique, but right now, it's in the service of impressing his very enthusiastic audience with his technique, not touching the heart. Maybe when he's older...
@juzzyfuzz Not true. Take a quick survey of some other YouTube videos of this waltz. Lim plays it in 1 min 55 sec. Dinu Lipatti and Giuomar Novaes clock in at 2:07, Arthur Rubinstein at 2:20, Gyorgi Cziffra and Samson François at about 2:30, Rachmaninoff at 2:43. Lim takes the prize for speed, but not, IMO, for musicality.
@kiesworld86 No doubt it is! And I actually love the fact that a classical pianist can get the audience reaction of a rock star for performing a Chopin Waltz in 2011 ;-) Nonetheless, I think he should beware of the temptation to play fast just "because he can." In this case, I think the audience loses a lot of the beauty of the music because it's just TOO fast. I think the same of some of Glenn Gould's recordings, and I have a lot of respect for Gould.

@losurthona That's pretty much the standard speed taken for this waltz.

@losurthona This video just after the end of formal recitals as an encore video showmanship can be thought of as a strong debut.
