I live in Italy and at 1:44 i was on school trip and was at that place and there was a metal thing sticking out of wall and i didn't see it and hit my head and had a nasty big bruise :D
I was there a couple weeks ago. This video convinced me to buy a Black Rapid strap. Definitely worth it. If any one has a chance to go to Europe for a couple of weeks buy this strap. Highly recommend it.
It looked like in a few cases you had your right hand resting on your camera to prevent it from swinging toward your stomach -- did you find yourself only having one free hand on the climb up? Or did you use the second clasp to prevent the camera from swinging at all?
Hi Gavin, i was debating on getting this strap. I currently use an optech strap which carries my 70-200f2.8 and 50d with battery grip fairly well. However my only gripe about the black rapid strap is the use of one bolt fastener to the bottom of the camera or grip. How secure is that? I have heard of people online saying that the bolt unscrews at times. Has that ever happen to you?
Are you not using the plastic stop on the strap? The one that keeps it from swinging around back? It seems like you have it way up on the strap and not where the camera "sits"
Tis a pretty great strap, i have one on my Canon 350d, and an amazing hand made one made out of what looks like old belts made of leahter on my 550d.
I just think sticking with the straps they give you is madness, they are constructed well, but from behind its a massive billboard "I have an expensive camera".
For a documentory i did around halloween (check out my flickr page to see them) and looking like a pro with a battery grip wont allow you to take those pictures.
Great review and video. This is one of the most sensible and practical review videos of this RS-7. It has prompted me to buy one. Great deal from Amazon 2010115 (Only £46 including delivery). Thanks Gavin, always watch and enjoy your videos.
P.S. Mabey someone already asked you this question before, but just out of curiosity, Who films you when you're doing these films? Is it you're wife or child(ren)? :) (I don't mind if you don't answer this post). :P
Hi, I've been watching you're videos all day and find them so inspiring for amaters (like me) or for professionals. I've been practicing them all. I really admire what you're doing and, i guess it's a hobbie for you, but just to let you know it's a fantastic one to have!
I have a couple of questions, so if you could answer them I'd be so glad.
-What type of tripod do you use, and how much does it cost (estimation)?
-Do you use any particular filter for normal use (not infrared)?
A similar strap is called SunStrap and can have a metal wire within the strap so it cannot be cut while you walk around (similar to cables that secure computers to the table is a store)
@DKKennedy25 No need for such a feature in Florence I'm glad to say, but I find myself thinking... I wonder what a thief would do with that knife once they realised the couldn't cut through the strap!
I thought going to a place like that you would be better off with the camera around your neck rather than having it hang and way more likely to bash walls etc....
Gavin been watching a lot of your videos ... started with the Photoshop series first. The 'step slip-up' at the end any chance of a 'blooper' video from all the videos so far? Thanks for the videos - helped me with Photoshop no end.
@kubus1964 Yes it moved quite a bit on this test, but I can tell you this. tt didn't make my neck hurt, it's not slipping off my shoulder, it's not getting snagged up and it's not going across the front of my lens. Oh and the camera was fine when I got back down.
Location is in the video's description, it's the Florence Cathedral. Was thinking of getting one of these, but being the klutz I am, my camera probably won't fare so well and get bumped here and there.
@PhotoGavin i would agree and disagree, that is not graffiti that is little scum bags with textas, graffiti is an art full wall pieces thats what graffitiis. all that is just tagging, anyone can do that. Graffiti is such a beautiful thing, and tagging shouldnt be called graffiti cause it simply has nothing to do with graffiti.
Quick question... I am looking to get into photography, (possible at A Level) and was wondering which camera I should get.... I'm looking for something around £350, so in USD that's about $500? I'm looking for a DSLR, any help would be appreciated, thanks :).
Wow. I would have been afraid all the time, that my camera could fall down. I don't really trust those straps... If I had climbed up that high, I think I would have kept the Camera in my bag.... Maybe that's just a paranoia of mine. ;-)
@listenwhatisayoh It takes a while to gain confidence in the strap, but trust me it's way safer then a round your neck type strap. Besides I played it safe, people were using their iPhones up there, not strap on them!
hey gavin could you do a photoshop tutorial on how to do a 50's style pin up poster with a photo would be great really need to learn how to do it fast.
Great video, you got some exercise and took some great shot on the way to the top. I recently bought the Black Rapid RS-7 strap and I hate I've gone so long without one. I think it is the best strap on the market, certainly better than the one that came with my Canon 7D.
Hi Gavin Last week I bought 50d+24-105 but Im not sure if I have spend my money right maybe I should uy 100mm 2.8 ? Oh and im planing on buying 50mm 1.8 and tokina 12-24 are they good?
@WetOct0puS The 50mm f1.8 is a lens I use alot on video work wityh my 5D so can recommend that, the others I don't own so can't really offer real world advice.
I'm worried about the camera hanging to the side like that. Don't you find the camera bangs against wall etc?
