  • I'm worried about the camera hanging to the side like that. Don't you find the camera bangs against wall etc?

  • It's a shame to see so much graffiti in such a nice place..

  • Ezio would have performed a leap of faith from the cathedral.

  • I live in Italy and at 1:44 i was on school trip and was at that place and there was a metal thing sticking out of wall and i didn't see it and hit my head and had a nasty big bruise :D

  • Looks like the camera would be bouncing all over the place if you walk faster.

  • @PhotoGavin 1:55 - You should have taken that shot with a 10mm fisheye lens, from the ground floor, it would have made for a stunning shot.

  • Have you tested the Black Rapic RS-Sports Gavin?

  • How would you compare this with sun sniper?

  • I was there a couple weeks ago. This video convinced me to buy a Black Rapid strap. Definitely worth it. If any one has a chance to go to Europe for a couple of weeks buy this strap. Highly recommend it.

  • Reminds me of Assassin's Creed

  • @soadlova absolutely!

  • what do think about the speed carry cs1 strap, its half the price of black rapid but is it half the quality

  • It looked like in a few cases you had your right hand resting on your camera to prevent it from swinging toward your stomach -- did you find yourself only having one free hand on the climb up? Or did you use the second clasp to prevent the camera from swinging at all?

  • How many times did your lens hit the wall?! :0

  • Best place for tilt-shift!

  • That ceiling is incredible, I was breath taken when I saw it. Nice video

  • love the end gav, everyone loves a fall, lol

  • 1:42, I'd love to shoot a portrait by that window

  • so did you manage to get up there in 30min ???????? :D

  • Hi Gavin, i was debating on getting this strap. I currently use an optech strap which carries my 70-200f2.8 and 50d with battery grip fairly well. However my only gripe about the black rapid strap is the use of one bolt fastener to the bottom of the camera or grip. How secure is that? I have heard of people online saying that the bolt unscrews at times. Has that ever happen to you?

  • I bought this strap the day after I saw this video. Worth every penny!

  • the cathedral looks like st.pauls does!

  • Gavin,

Are you not using the plastic stop on the strap? The one that keeps it from swinging around back? It seems like you have it way up on the strap and not where the camera "sits"

  • Tis a pretty great strap, i have one on my Canon 350d, and an amazing hand made one made out of what looks like old belts made of leahter on my 550d.

I just think sticking with the straps they give you is madness, they are constructed well, but from behind its a massive billboard "I have an expensive camera".

For a documentory i did around halloween (check out my flickr page to see them) and looking like a pro with a battery grip wont allow you to take those pictures.

  • Great review and video. This is one of the most sensible and practical review videos of this RS-7. It has prompted me to buy one. Great deal from Amazon 2010115 (Only £46 including delivery). Thanks Gavin, always watch and enjoy your videos.

  • great job!

  • Do you use any particular filter for this shoot?

  • @Fearlessroby No special filters, no fancy Photoshop effects. Just beautiful lighting and breathtaking views.

  • wow, some amazing shots there Gavin; another great video!

  • I bought the same strap a couple months or so ago when i saw it in one of your other videos. def. one of my best purchases for my canon.

  • nice vid

  • P.S. Mabey someone already asked you this question before, but just out of curiosity, Who films you when you're doing these films? Is it you're wife or child(ren)? :) (I don't mind if you don't answer this post). :P

  • @mrottodu33 That'll be Sam, my hard working wife.

  • Hi, I've been watching you're videos all day and find them so inspiring for amaters (like me) or for professionals. I've been practicing them all. I really admire what you're doing and, i guess it's a hobbie for you, but just to let you know it's a fantastic one to have!

I have a couple of questions, so if you could answer them I'd be so glad.

-What type of tripod do you use, and how much does it cost (estimation)?

-Do you use any particular filter for normal use (not infrared)?

    Thank you a lot.

  • You're an amazing photographer, I love watching your videos

  • You always get amzing shots Gavin. Well done :)

  • is it any website there i can se your photos? :D

  • Gav's back! \o/

  • what lens did you used or what camera do you have? by the way i love your vid...thanks

  • wearing a jacket kind-of helps cushion it...this example doesn't prove much.

  • Enjoy your trip ? He He He

  • tackle two steps at a time.. wud be much easier **laughs**

  • i like your channel

    keep up Gavin,we need you

  • A similar strap is called SunStrap and can have a metal wire within the strap so it cannot be cut while you walk around (similar to cables that secure computers to the table is a store)

  • @DKKennedy25 No need for such a feature in Florence I'm glad to say, but I find myself thinking... I wonder what a thief would do with that knife once they realised the couldn't cut through the strap!

  • You were in my city Gavin! =)

    Did you enjoy Florence?

  • @MyNameIsCesco Loved Florence. Will be back!

  • What lens were you using? and like f-stop..etc?

  • @raymandrums The lens is a 24-105L the aperture varies for one photo to the next but the inside shots would have been wide open f/4.

  • Strappin' lad :p

    Nice pictures =)

  • I'd get so claustrophobic in there!! well done

  • @littletiger06 No, to busy taking photos and climbing steps to notice.

  • Sad how those monuments are covered in graffity and inscribe crap... Someone should beat up and jail the punks that did those...

  • Thanks Gavin. Another great video. You've convinced me to order one.

  • Did you film the video with a slr?

  • @yecheskelt No it was just a little Sanyo FH1 HD camcorder

  • We absolutely adore the R-Strap. It's a hugely worthwhile investment. The ladies version is awesome too.

  • I thought going to a place like that you would be better off with the camera around your neck rather than having it hang and way more likely to bash walls etc....

  • @Legacylout That's what I wanted to test. Camera never touched the sides due to the strap design. It points camera & lens down, not out.

  • @PhotoGavin now I like the sound of that design fetcher, Ill have to look in to this strap ,'B^[)

  • how do you get the pictures and colors so vibrant and clear. did u put it on a special mode or use a special lens?

  • @babybsemail Nothing special. Get up early for the best/clearest light, shoot RAW.

  • @PhotoGavin thanks. :)

  • Gavin been watching a lot of your videos ... started with the Photoshop series first. The 'step slip-up' at the end any chance of a 'blooper' video from all the videos so far? Thanks for the videos - helped me with Photoshop no end.

  • You are awesome!

  • Thumps up for his self-deprecating!!

  • great pictures, nice cathedral. Is the camera not bouncing more with this strap?

  • @kubus1964 Yes it moved quite a bit on this test, but I can tell you this. tt didn't make my neck hurt, it's not slipping off my shoulder, it's not getting snagged up and it's not going across the front of my lens. Oh and the camera was fine when I got back down.

  • Did you use an actual fish eye lens for that shot from the top or did you edit that in post?

  • @lukewarm7 It's a panorama made up from 5 or 6 images

  • @PhotoGavin Panorama with no tripod or was that not shown ?

  • Lens?

  • @Varguitas10 Thanks for asking. Canon 24-105L

  • @PhotoGavin Thanks! i was just about to ask. Thanks for all your videos, they help a lot!

  • @PhotoGavin

Thanks!, Im from Costa Rica...Nice Videos!

  • @PhotoGavin

    Thank! and Camera?

    From Costa Rica...Nice Videos!

  • that really looks like a great place to take pictures. jaw dropping outcomes. good work

  • Want one of them straps

  • thanks again gav, something i love about ur vids is that you show us photos you take. keep up the great work :)

  • OMG!! that looks like the church from assasin's creed 2!!

  • @pogi09282805724 That's because it is the church from ACII. Better said: The church from ACII is this church ;)

  • Location is in the video's description, it's the Florence Cathedral. Was thinking of getting one of these, but being the klutz I am, my camera probably won't fare so well and get bumped here and there.

  • there's vandalism everywhere!!

  • @pogi09282805724 Really sad to see all the graffiti everywhere. The only blot on an otherwise stunning city.

  • @PhotoGavin i would agree and disagree, that is not graffiti that is little scum bags with textas, graffiti is an art full wall pieces thats what graffitiis. all that is just tagging, anyone can do that. Graffiti is such a beautiful thing, and tagging shouldnt be called graffiti cause it simply has nothing to do with graffiti.

  • what church is that?

  • @pogi09282805724 Florence Cathedral

  • where is the place in the video ?

  • Where Can I download the wide-angle-photo at 3:01 ?? I must put it as wallpaper :D

  • @simone12russo whats ur email i send it to u

  • I love your 15 minute photo challenges, hopefully you make some more of those soon.

  • Quick question... I am looking to get into photography, (possible at A Level) and was wondering which camera I should get.... I'm looking for something around £350, so in USD that's about $500? I'm looking for a DSLR, any help would be appreciated, thanks :).

  • what sort of processing do you do to get the photos so vibrant such as at 1:28?

  • Awesome job! Thanks for sharing! ^.^

  • You go to the coolest places for taking photos, you doing any new Photoshop Tutorials any time soon? take care :)

  • @gamegod19 Hope so. kinda busy at the moment!

  • epic music for an epic climb!

  • @aarondkeogh Loved the music. Search for rickvanman here on YouTube for more info.

  • who is filming your vids ? :)

  • @omgomg113 All credit there goes to My wife. I'm just glad there she got my "best side" and not to many shots from behind ;-o

  • reminds me of assassin's creed 2 video game!

  • @N6600 but I wouldn't try the leap of faith.

  • @reik2006 neither would i, man. :)

  • Wow. I would have been afraid all the time, that my camera could fall down. I don't really trust those straps... If I had climbed up that high, I think I would have kept the Camera in my bag.... Maybe that's just a paranoia of mine. ;-)

  • @listenwhatisayoh It takes a while to gain confidence in the strap, but trust me it's way safer then a round your neck type strap. Besides I played it safe, people were using their iPhones up there, not strap on them!

  • I've been there :D

  • Could you give me your opinion on the best 50mm lens for a Canon camera? I'm considering getting the 5Dmk2 and want to pair it with a 50mm.

  • @Qantas25 I have the f1.8 50mm which works very well on the 5D. Cheap and reliable. Makesgreat video footage too.

  • at 2:46 to 2:49 its a perfect incredible extrime sensational PANORAMIC

  • @mihaimcm So I'm guessing you liked it! You should see it close up, the deatil is breath taking.

  • hey gavin could you do a photoshop tutorial on how to do a 50's style pin up poster with a photo would be great really need to learn how to do it fast.

  • think i seen ezio leaping across the roof top lol

  • Wow, the view looked worth it. The lighting looked beautiful at the top.

  • @jamesrdolan Lighting was great. Got up there pretty early. Less queues and better lighting

  • The Black Rapid Strap is good but you have good legs and

  • i could never do that i hate heights like that

  • @ITouchIPhoneZz Heights & confined space, not for everyone, but great views from the top.

  • @PhotoGavin inoe i would love to plug up the corrage to do that one day because it looks amazing

  • Great video, you got some exercise and took some great shot on the way to the top. I recently bought the Black Rapid RS-7 strap and I hate I've gone so long without one. I think it is the best strap on the market, certainly better than the one that came with my Canon 7D.

  • @haji727 100% Agree

  • hi gavin could you please give us a video about beauty and fashion shot please and how we could retouch the photos in the photoshop

  • i have got one question Gavin !

    which lense do you use?

    please answer

    greetings from Germany!

ps.I am a big fan of you!:)

my whole knowledge about Photography i gained through your vids

  • @Zooker1999 No problem. That was a Canon 24-105L. Great lens.

  • Im guessing the strap is tough enough so thieves cant just pull the camera off ya?

  • wow! amazing vista...

  • Hi Gavin Last week I bought 50d+24-105 but Im not sure if I have spend my money right maybe I should uy 100mm 2.8 ? Oh and im planing on buying 50mm 1.8 and tokina 12-24 are they good?

  • @WetOct0puS The 50mm f1.8 is a lens I use alot on video work wityh my 5D so can recommend that, the others I don't own so can't really offer real world advice.

  • @WetOct0puS the 50mm f1.8 is very good
