It's just the intro video, it doesn't happen mid-game at all. Basically every game ever has one of these, and you can just skip it if you want... But go ahead and gripe if you do so choose. Whatever.
I don't understand what the point of a CG animation is in a video game about a card game? Surely money would be better spent on testing the game to make sure its mechanics are infallible? I've never picked up my magic cards and thought, "well... this is really good fun and all, but... it'd be much more interesting if it was a CG movie instead".

And while we're at it why not remove the artwork from the cards and just leave the rules text, cause the art takes incredible amounts of time, effort and money to make? Why not name the cards with numbers so Wizards won't waste time on making up names and concepts? Let's make it a completely abstract game which has nothing other than game mechanics... The point is this - flavor never hurt ANY game, it spikes the imagination and makes gameplay more enjoyable.
@whatshendrix It'd get a bit difficult to keep reminding oneself which number was which card, wouldn't it? The actual TCG is different from a video game. Honestly, this is why I hate the modern gaming scene. It's all about the pretty lights.
That you Captain Obvious, numbering the cards would be really stupid, what was I thinking...
I understand your sentiments about the game industry, but MTG's cinematics have no effect on MTG's gameplay development so complaining about eye-candy is ignorant.
@EragonFiresword don't hate on the cinematics. I'm a long time player of MTG and I've never really felt the need for any trailers like these, but I enjoy them a lot. It adds a lot of flavor to the game and really gets you excited for things to come (the Scars of Mirrodin trailer did that pretty well)
I think it's a smart move for Wizards to put these videos up on youtube because it gives them lots of media mileage in a form easily accessible to most of its customers.
