@kysteelerja Clearly you didn't take time to read all of the comments before promulgating this clap-trap. SOME greyhounds love to sit...some don't. If a GH wants to sit, let. them. Too assume that all GHs can't is just plain stupid.
A word on bloat,it is horrible but can be easily avoided, get your dog into a routine of after every meal they are sent to their beds to relax, i quiet often feed mine breakfast then go back to bed myself or feed him supper then have mine, a good half hour to let the food digest, dont panic too much about treats on walks or straight after its the big meals that can do the damage. Contrary to popular belief not all greyhounds need rigid structure, mine gets up now when i get up unless hes bustin

For those of u who luv big beautiful playful dog suchs as greyhounds and ur looking forward into adopting one heres the number place or website (if u live in florida )
Just got our GH - Jake's the Man!! We are so excited and nervous all at once. We want to make sure we take good care of him, he's very anxious about all of the changes, and adjusting to his new lifestyle as well as the stairs to our apartment.
Any thoughts on bloat? It scared the crap out of me that it could happen to him so quickly, and want to know what precautions to take and what to watch out for.
@thehuckabee They are greyt breed for the "right" folks...like any breed. Realistically, a Border Collie wold never really fit into our home, for example.
I've sent you a PM for your questions regarding bloat..I think groups and writers tend to fall into over caution about this...not a bad thing, just not situation "orange" every time they eat something. Hope you have lots a greyt years with Jake!
How did you get your Greyhound to sit??? We've tried so hard to teach mine to sit and she just wont do it. Well she will for about 2 seconds when on the sofa. Any ways Riley looks to be such a great dog.
Due to hound dogs weird structure in their legs, they can't sit like other dogs do. If they do, they're basically hurting themselves. Hence why the dog kinda sits on his leg.
Actually...this is a misunderstanding. It is not a weird structure, it is a GH structure. He sat askew till he learned to sit straight on...now he is a "sitting fool"...especially if he thinks treats are involved.
How long have you had your greyhound? anyway it maybe a good idea to take him/her out side on the lead or close the door whilst your out with him just to make he does every thing he wants to do before he comes back in.
We've done that. We stand out there for 15mins. or more and he just sits there. He's gotten better, but every now and then he has a streak of going in the house.
Ah right, i guees it's just one of those things then. Maybe he will learn to go out side eventualy, just like my greyhound will eventualy learn to stay out of the bin. Oh yer she's learned how to open the kitchen bin eeww.
Yes unfortunatly. She puts her paw on the pedal, the lid smacks her on the nose and she discovers there are lots of lovely things inside lol. Yes we do tell her to get her nose out of the bin when we catch her but she some times manages to give us the slip.
Same here. Some of the time we all find out coz she comes walkign in the living room with a piece of food from the bin in her mouth. Like we wouldn't notice. trying train her not to do it though.
My lurcher does the ignoring excellently! He can sit lie and sometimes 'talk' but there has to be a good treat for his work or hes completely uninterested.
My greyhound sits, lies down, shakes, plays dead, stands up for treats. She had a broken leg when I got her, and the daily hourlong walks and standing up for treats has strengthened her formerly broken leg.
not all greyhounds can sit if they are retired it may hurt them so dont try and force them i didnt with my grey and she tought herself how to but i dont make her..
What a lovely dog, looks very much like my grey. Keep at it with the training, our Grey came top of the class at obedience training. They can do it, but have to really be motivated to! We found that sheeps liver baked so that it is hard was the best thing to get her to do what we wanted - it was also a healthy treat for her too. Gorgeous!
I trained all of my dogs to do tricks, until I got a greyhound - whenever I try to teach her anything, she just looks at me like 'why would I want to do that?' lol. She is not particularly interested in treats, especially if she has to get off the couch to get them!
@Shazzasaloon91 that is a grey a couch potato...if it is a rescue it has done it's time.....we are here to serve....they are loyal trusting souls but they are not circus pets....they are to be pampered and loved and will return the favor with unconditional love and devotion....though some are receptive...if you want a pet to do tricks search elsewhere....but if you have an access to an enclosed area.....marvel at what comes natural to them......nothing like it.....watching a greyhound run.....
Heh! I found treats were excellent motivational aids for teaching my boy to sit and lie down, too! Apparently sighthounds aren't the easiest dogs to train, either... :)
My greyhound loves to sit...........ON THE SOFA!!

the natural sit for a greyhound resembles the sphinx.....why do so many people want to train them to do what is not natural to the breed.....?

Some GHs love to sit, some don't. Riley likes to sit, so he does. Brogan doesn't really like to sit, so she does a "down" instead.

my grey knows how to:
sit, speak, shake paw, stay (mostly) jump up, jump over something, lay down, roll over & spin around and take a hanky from my pocket.
other grey owners are usually amazed ha
took only a few days each to teach.
I recommend getting a book on it.
they usually recommend using a "clicker", break down the commands into small steps so they can usually do it and small treats to reward them.

How do you get them to not poop in the house? Ours goes out side pees, then comes in and poops!

there are a lot of greyhounds who never really "sit" because anatomically they are not built for it like most dogs are. but obv. some do sit.
