Hey man me and a couple of friends are going to join some type of armed forces and the Army seems like one of the best choices. What would the chances of the three of us being in training together? How demanding would you say the training is, for someone like me I work out quite often. Do you know how much it would pay for college? (Main reason for joining) please get back to me and thanks for doing what you do!
@dooke6762 - For answers to all of those questions, talk to your recruiter. They can give you the best up-to-date information regarding training together and money for college. If you work out, you are one step ahead of the demands of Basic Training. It requires being tough: Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, & Spiritually!
@tania09cierra - You should discuss your specific situation with a recruiter. If you are accepted in the Army (Reserve or Active), YES - You will deploy. That is the purpose of the military, and currently we are in a war on 2 fronts.
went through this it was a lot more fun than i really thought it would be. to prepare @yamaha471 i would run about 4 miles a day cause in total i think that is what a normal day had in it and i hope you like push-ups good luck
A friend of mine wants to join, but he used to get asthma and sometimes weezes around animals, could be an allergic reaction... I don't know if the Army Reserve would take him>
hey, i have a question. i enlist anywhere between 3-6 months as Army Reserve, im talking to my recruiter thrusday. but my question is my MOS will be Infantry (11B) Fort Knox is the basic training im going to go to right? or will it be fort benning?
@AndrewTheKewlDude - You will be going to Ft. Benning, Home of the Infantry. The Army is moving Ft. Knox's Basic Training and Armor Training to Ft. Benning as well.

there really isn't a way to be physically or mentally prepared for basic training. But the best advice would be to stay in shape. pretty much all you need to get through basic training.
@yamaha471 Yea you should run, and in a days time it really depends on the DI, you could run anywhere from 2 to 5 miles.yes you will only need to run 2 miles for the PT test but like i said you may run 5 miles just for fun. The physical part you should start by getting up early and performing calisthenics as well as run.
A few questions: I am considering joining the Army. I need to work on my pushups, and running, but how hard is bct? Really? I would like to as prepared as possible before I go. Also, will I be pretty ripped when I graduate? I mean will I have a defined, muscular body? Just wondering. Thanks!
You should work on Pushups, Situps and Running. You must run 2 miles in a limited amount of time to graduate. You will get out of it what you put into it. It is not just Physically demanding though. You will learn Combat Lifesaver Skills, Use of Weapons, Army Values, and Land Navigation. You will also learn what is now called "Combatives", which is the Army's new version of Hand-to-Hand Combat. It is a great way to serve your country, make life-long battle buddies, and earn a living!
I was in fox 2/81 back in 1998 as a 19k that was the best time of my life good times down there at Fort Knox!!!!
