  • The working class experience in the UK in the 80s all summed up in one song...

  • @faeembrugh Eloquently done too eh? Peace.

  • telll the wife its "pretty green" LOL

  • my wife keeps talking about a song by the jam with jukebox in the lyrics does anyone know what song it is ?TY

  • @guitarlvrify Could be "Pretty Green"?

  • @themodette Thats it TY!!

  • In a song filled with transcendent imagery, the very simple "feeding ducks in the park and wishing you were far away" just.....well....it just crushes me. How old was Weller? 22. Chrissakes!

  • @wuwei619 lots of blokes feel the same way, though he has got the "power" to be able to express that feeling.

  • class

  • Awesome!!

  • Yeah this song's a powerful anthem with a rockin beat and if it don't strike a chord with you, ya must be a few synapses short of a full nervous system...(brain-dead) huh?

  • @katubaldy cheers, mate

  • Well themariekent i think you and i should go down the pub and have a drink and put the wankers on here to rights.

  • Makes me wonder about some retards on here, commenting on a song you proclaim to hate yet can't seem to stop disgussing and obsessing over it. Get a life PENISES

  • The song I want played at my funeral...

  • From the 80s kid to today's kids, to use your vernacular "you got owned"

  • @MrJohnnyhercules oh so true....

  • I was 14 when this hit the world. Like them I'm from the home counties, but the words didn't strike a chord with me then and for years afterwards, I lived a privileged, though hardworking life. Now, all those years later and a lot of money and a lot of love down the drain, the words mean so much more. In short, in a word we didn't use then....awesome!

  • awesome!

  • Lovin this

  • the geezer on the far right looks a bit like the actor Alan Ford!

  • May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • someone say UK ? :)

  • Paul Weller could never grow sideboards - that was his tragedy.

  • @pm966 lol well he wudnt look rite with mutton chops :P

  • Is it weird that the 1st time i heard this was one the inbetwenners DVD menu XD

  • yes this was my mod anthem!

  • Sensational track from a band far above their punk contemporaries

  • i will like and fav

  • im only 18 and i think the mods should make a come back, theres no culture in my generation, no skins, punks, mods, rockers, rudeboys, or any thing like that any more

  • @Bloodyblackmore

I mean this in the nicest possible way: MAKE YOUR OWN CULTURE.

  • @Rottenhaus Todays so called "culture" is all about showing off, getting as much attention as possible (facebook twitter, quick ways of telling the world about yourself) look at the artists, Lady Gaga is doing her shows, trying to get attention. but you dont want a real attention, you dont want people to know the real you. You want people to see a fake, perfect person instead of the real person, who's both up and down when all there is today is superficial "ups".

  • @Terremides Absolutely perfect. My thoughts in words right here. Thanks.

  • @Rottenhaus if you're anything else than up, you're out. And where does this odd behaivour come from? From the fear of not fitting in, that fear is so strong and creating such a desperation that people are willing to do whatever it takes to live up to their vision of what's fitting in, wether it is a lot of money, getting away from working class or hating immigrants. That isnt culture, that's entertainment. Sorry for rambling.

  • @Bloodyblackmore

Im 48...my advise would be that past has been neatly packaged to re-sell it in any -generation you have to dig really deep to find good music and culture jam themselves did not fit an easy category .....

there are some oppertunities now where the internet allows more freedom of music record companies find difficult to control....for now.....but thats already going as websites nibble off what they consider the best bits and charge extra..... cultures there you have to go find it

  • this is my childhood ...thks

  • No, I don't have psoriasis and I don't need Equilac and I do not want to see Coldplay live in december.

  • 2 people dont know entertainment

  • @heinzobeanz you are, obviously, a fucking dafty or, perhaps, you have child like speakers to listen to your music on. Because this song sounds top notch son. So fucking do one you clown. Stick to Steps or the cover band, Stairs........

  • @domtring respect to you my friend you have taste !! i was there from the start in 78 saw the jam countless times !! didnt really get the style council but love all of wellers solo stuff just glad i was there in the day and feel sorry for those who missed it !! i think the prick you referring to is a justin beiber fan either than some little rich white boy pretending hes some kind of gangster from the ghettoes of the home countys !! i heard wentworth really bad !!

  • shame they never made it in the us

  • careful what you say the Mod-Father can see all and he will judge you

  • working class anthem

  • classic tune as always by the jam

  • I so wish I was alive when this was released, however it's still as relevant today, that's the beauty of it...

  • oih heinzbakedfucking retard beanz what the fuck r u on ?

  • before i say this just note my speakers are working fine but why the fuck is everyone saying this is a good quality song

    face it ITS SHIT

  • @heinzobeanz I think thats the recording quality. Nothing the uploader can do about that.

  • @heinzobeanz are you retarded. this is how it sounded when it came out, what do you want them to do get the band together and redo the song and put it on youtube just for you? be realistic you twat.

  • @heinzobeanz Go and listen to your squeaky clear pop music you fool.

  • @heinzobeanz ur a c**t and thats all there is to say. MrPeteofile says it all now shut up you silly boy

  • Absolute reality check

  • This is the best quality of this song I have ever heard. Thank you for posting this. I absolutely love The Jam. No one at the time wrote about life in Britain better than Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler were great musicians.

  • ha the dislike bar is as small as justin bibers dick, it only grows when faggots touch it! cos hes a faggot and sings like a woman

  • My next door neighbour play's this so well on his guitar, good choice of music to be playing. Hope one day you read this Douglas Hobbs of Truro, Cornwall, England.

  • fuck vevo. this is it

  • Hey bettercallsaul918, no they disbanded in the 80's and Paul Weller, formed The Style Council with Paul Talbot and DC Lee. However, Paul Weller still tours every now and then.

  • if i ever shit myself in an exam, i will think of this song ;)

  • @SryderNintyThree another inbetweeners fan lovit

  • @SryderNintyThree

    Just watched that episode.

  • Even in the middle of america in oklahoma, this is a pretty cool tune, came across this out of no where, is this band still around?

  • cool bass, voice,rhythm

  • @hgytre1 absolutely

  • Bruce Foxton on Bass. That's entertainment?

  • just look at paul weller's carreer..winning.

  • love it

  • That simplistic echoey snare at random points during the song somehow makes it sound even more euphoric!

  • A simple dude listening to this great song by a gifted singer songwriter, that's entertainment!

  • weller was a lyrical genius when you think about the songs he put together at such a young age espec, tube station I just hope they get their differences sorted out and give the fans a reunion tour as it will b2 30 yrs nxt yr since they split

  • kick freaking ass

  • This is mine. It's rough, it's dirty, it's loud, it's uncompromising, it's gray, it's wet, it's uncomfortable, it's what things are now, it's home and it's beautiful. Such an amazing track, only from the likes of the Jam. Brilliant description.

  • @Imptheshrimp

it's not gay, i don't know where you get that...

  • Hey, are the two dislikes those two lovers that missed the tranquillity of solitude?

  • Waking from bad dreams and smoking cigerettes cuddling a warm girl and smelling stale perfume

  • The Jam at there best!

  • Another brilliant description of life in the rougher parts of London, especially "two lovers missing the tranquillity of solitude" - nobody writes words like this any more!

  • One of their best songs... for me anyway.

  • some songs come and quickly fade....this track is perennial

  • in the picture at 1.30 foxton looks like he cant wait for the smoking ban to begin!

  • this wouldn't have been good enough to be a b-side in the sixties !

  • still love this tune after all those years reminds me of better days

  • bought this when it was first released ,heard it on the radio today ,brilliant.

  • @unclemort1960 What radio was that? Ive never came across one that plays Jam songs.

  • @MrDataCode Radio 1 in Berlin plays this song about daily ^^ yet it never gets old!

  • @MrDataCode Absolute radio ,i get up really early and it seems strange hearing the jam and the clash at 5AM when in the 70s you`d have been lucky to hear them at 5PM

  • @unclemort1960 Oh why is that? You mean the radio stations just didnt play their music very much in the 70s?

  • @MrDataCode well there was a lot a lot less radio stations ,the main one was radio 1 which had a strict play list and did`nt play `pop` music at such unusual hours .john peel whose show was on late night played some great stuff `tho` he introduced loads of great groups like the undertones ,stiff little fingers ,to the airwaves .the peel sessions are good ways of hearing some acts in their infancy

  • @unclemort1960 Ah I heared alot about John Peel and his radio show, I wish I was around to tune in at night to listen to him. Only radio show I listen too is Smooth FM you get some very good old songs but obviously not many rock songs but plenty of Bowie and the like which is good. The only other option is Souless dance music and all this Gaga/Pitbull shit oh and classicial music.

  • @MrDataCode try listening to Absolute radio you get new and old stuff ,XFM which i`m not to familiar with is supposed to be good for new acts.

  • did i hear? at 2:07? that little piece of what sounds backwards... inspiration for the Coral, "the Spanish Main"? Just me?

  • how can anyone dislike the "MODFATHER" my nan would slap ya from her grave....love ya girl miss you

  • Brilliant, thanks for uploading :)

  • If you are a devotee of eighties' music, the check out the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music' by Karl Vorderman

  • nice1.made relegation easy

  • good old stuff , brings back memories

  • If I could actually sing, I'd cover this song in an instant.

  • Thanks for all the great comments people! This is the proper studio quality track, as I downloaded it from iTunes :-)

  • @themodette . . . That's Entertainment . . . ;-)

  • good stuff :)

  • haaaaaaaa look at that one dislike on their own, lets all point and laugh

  • @wrongteous1 read your comment 10 minutes and still laughing love it

  • @wrongteous1 I pressed it by accident, okay?

  • Great song pity no video :(

  • Brilliant sound to this vid aswell, ta for posting!! Timeless tune!

  • word

  • yeh i agree. vevo version lacks ooomph. this is stuck in my head. continues to sound good year after year. we need a band like this to rip into the tory scum trashing britain today.

  • This song was in Stranger Than Fiction.

  • still sounds as fabulous as it did 30 years ago-I could listen to this forever!

  • the punk rocker inside me keeps saying...

"FUCK PEOPLE WHO DON'T LISTEN TO THIS, FUCK THEM, SHITS".

  • @SkyValleyProduction Yes, with you amigo.

  • Love Foxton's bass playing on this one.

  • no dislikes, the way i like it..

i used to listen to this when i was around 10, with my dad. i miss those days

  • enormes!

  • The Jam-No, The Best!

  • It always left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth that Weller dumped and disowned the other two... Obviously in this group Paul Weller was the main man - but the other two were far from passengers. Had he kept the group together and done solo projects, as most other bands did, I'm sure everyone would have been better off, PW included.

  • @SAHBfan yea, you are right, but weller diddn't "dump and disown them" he was getting a bit pissed off that he was trying to change the world but no1 was listening - that's what Going Underground was all about - and he actually got quite depressed, so though he obviously should have stayed with the jam, it's a little bit unfair to say that he dumped the other 2.

  • 'Gettin a cab, and travelling on buses, reading the grafitti about slashed seat affairs - Thats Entertainment, Thats Entertainment' - Weller is a God

  • such an amazing band yet not as big as they deserve to be, well I guess That's Entertainment

  • cheers dude. yeah screw vivo . whats becoming of youtube these days.

  • One of all-time favourite bands. Criminally underrated yet so influential.

  • anyone from woking...the jam are fucking gods....

  • kings of mod

  • This song takes some beating....

  • i grew up in Dublins north side, very rough raw place to live. Weller hits the nail on head about city life and living that working class life style that the posh cunts of this world only know about trough people like Weller. " lights going out and a kick in the balls I say that’s entertainment, that’s entertainment
