Use to belt this into me hairbrush...had to sing it twice...would do the rap part first then replay it n do the singing part....how sad! She was/is such a great singer...simon cowell could do with someone like her on that X Factor panel...she knows her stuff...
I do not care if that was the drummers 100000 time playing that song. look at 1:23 and throughout the video! SLACK OR WHAT..song kickazz thats for sure and the singer did great
Never thought I'd see a live performance of this. The comments before mine nailed it. The layering is brilliant. I was a metalhead in 87 but instantly recognized the amazing talent and originality behind this. I loved cranking in this car and singing along. Oh, and she is so beautiful.
aahahh !! the lovely Carol Decker. i had a school boy crush on her, and i still do !! it was her fault i blew my exams. couldnt concentrate in class because of her lol
Not promoted much in the USA like a lot of UK artists because the corporate music assholes pushing mainstream pablum wouldn't want their revenue stream f'kd with.
This girl has some voice! She sounds so different singing the chorus from the rest of the song that I actually thought it was two different women singing the first time I heard it on the radio. First time I actually saw her singing it (here on youtube) I was shocked.
If I remember what I saw on VH1 once, in the radio edit released back in the 80's, ALL of the background vocals were carol Decker's voice, using voice-over tracks (record her singing one part, then another, and anotther, etc.), then go back and mix them all together for the final released product. A good example of that today is Michelle Branch singing All You Wanted.
She has AMAZING vocals! Such power and no hint of strain. Her voice has the range of Heart (Wilson sisters) with the scratchiness of Kim Carnes ("Betty Davis Eyes"). This was one of my favorites back in the 80's.
I was eleven when this was shown, takes me back to the times when people music artists made their own songs up and not copy cat others like many do these days.
OMG! I want to thank you for this, I close my eyes and it is the summer of 87, and my cousin and I were gettin in alot of trouble! Everytime we were going out, we would blast this song, it brings me back to the innocent times, that most of us seem t forget about, we would dance on my parents dock to this, we got caught by my mom at the party and this is the song that we were listening to, then the cops busted us that summer for underage drinking. I miss you Jenny, Thanks this made my day!
Dang, does this song bring back memories of an innocent time when I was 16....My Cousin Jenny and I got into so much trouble that summer, and this is the song we would always listen to when we were going out, we even were dancing on my parents dock to this song blast, our song from the innocent summer of 87, we loved this song, she is "too grown up" now, and so am I, but I close my eyes and see her and I getting into trouble. Thanks for posting, OMG I miss her, I am gonna call her. Thanks.
dont know about greatest EVER but surely one of the best of the 80's, and most underrated... i always hear every other crappy song from the 80's but never this one.
The day Jack FM started up here in Toronto with retro music, I said if they play T'Pau, I will be a listener forever. That day, they did. I love you T'Pau. Part of the memorable 80's!
Jack FM is probably the single greatest thing to happen to radio in the last 20,000 years. I once heard "You Got It All" by The Jets on Jack FM while I was driving in Calgary. I nearly shit down both pant legs.
Ditto me...we have it here in SLC. I nearly wrecked one day when Electric Blue by Icehouse came on. I thought the rest of the world had forgotten that song...
they are still out there performing - only two of the people in this vid are in the current band (Ron and Carol) but they are still going at it. She's got a great voice.

Wow, great live voice, good musicianship and great song, but why didn't Carol sing the higher part during the verses?
Had they forged their way as a rock group instead of syrupy pop I think T'pau would have been more successful

She reminds me a little bit of Kim Karnes.

I don't really care for 80s music on the whole, but I like this song, it's trippy. Especially this live version.

Give me Carol any day.
