  • oh i can play bassoon easily then cause i play an alto sax, and the notes look and sound the same as the alto :D

  • Any tips for making the low register less sharp? my instrument runs a little sharp in general but anything below low E is awful...

  • Most bassoons are tuned sharp in that register. Your problem could be made worse by the choice of reeds or even bocal. You might ask a professional bassoonist to try your instrument to see if there is a problem.

  • Thanks for your response, Dr. Ewell! I've found it's a reed problem. The reed I used to use was sharp, the one I now have makes everything flat... I'm getting a new bocal, so hopefully that will help a bit. Thanks again!

  • Thanks, man. Those tips are helping me out a lot. I got the weissenborn method, but I found it too advanced for me. Is there a weissenborn method for novices?

  • You might try many other excellent method books for beginning the bassoon. The Rubank beginning or intermediate method might be appropriate for you.

  • Yes, I play a Heckel bassoon.

  • @tewelltube Who uses a French bassoon anyway, and when people do, what is the purpose of using it

  • @tewelltube What reeds would suggest me buying, until I learn how to make my own?

  • i was actually looking for bagpipes but thats a cool instrument
