This is my first experience with JLL on the guitar, but NOT my first with Jerry Lee, and ANY experience with that man will be an interesting one. I've known him since his first wife (Myra) and I were both 13. I prefer him on piano and with his hair gone wild, but if he gets off to this quiet respectful attitude for a change, all I can say is GIVE 'EM HELL, J L L!
Jerry Lee plays that same lick as Elvis. Jerry Lee toured with Buddy Holly in 1957-1958 and has stated that he DOES enjoy Buddy's music--obviously, he also enjoys Fender strats!!
Jerry Lee has always been such a great talent and doing this song with the Rust College Quintet is wonderful. He's always been wild I've heard from other musicians. But I have felt for him ever since I read where he once said after losing his baby son and then later years his mother and older son so close to each other, he would keep seeing coffins in his sleep. I wish him good health and happiness always. - Paula
Jerry Lee learned to play the guitar and piano, in a Pentecostal church(Holy Roler)as his first cousins-Rev.Jimmy Swaggert, and country singer-Mickey Gilley did. Jerry Lee claimed to be called to "Preach" at a young age.
May the gates of heaven swing wide to receive the blessed soul of Jerry Lee Lewis into God's kingdom at the time of his passing. All God's blessings come to him.
Actually, the guitar was Jerry Lee's first instrument he learned how to play as a child, according to the book "Great Balls of Fire" by Myra Lewis, the cousin the Killer married. However, he thought his fingers were really too stubby for the guitar, and when a relative brought home a piano, Jerry Lee took to it like a fish to water, and the rest is rock and roll history.
Correcting an error, he saw a piano at a relative's house, and later his father bought him one.
As for the guitar, when Jerry Lee met Chet Atkins in Nashville to hopefully sign with RCA Victor, Chet said that Jerry Lee would be better off playing the guitar than the piano. The Killer proved Chet wrong.
Jerry can sing anything better than anyone but I especially like his gospel songs and country. In Loving Memories is truly amazing and it should be put out on CD.
I must say that Jerry Lee's quitar playing skills are truly awful... almost same as mine... but as they say that Elvis has said that if he could play piano as Jerry Lee, then he would not sing at all... or something... It's the same thing here... If the man can play piano as he does, then he don't have to play quitar at all.
Didn't know Jerry played the guitar...

I love it when he sings slow heartfelt stuff like this. Gospel, secular, he sings it soulfully--plays the guitar good, too.

This video shows that, after all, Jerry Lee is a very spiritual human being who deeply believes in god and is thankful for his god-given talent.
