Hamilton was not the only of our Founders who feared Greek style democracy. They were right, that style with no checks for the rights of the people and for stability under Supreme Law, leads to anarchy or worse what happened with the French Revolution - tyranny. He was not a monarchist; what he envisioned was a legal body dedicated to preserving the rights, liberty, and institutions of freedom established by the Constitution and Revolution empowered by patriotic families.
the goverment, the FED, and our insane monetary policy contriburted greatly to where we are today economically. You would be a fool to blind yourself into thinking only the neoCons and Deregulation caused this mess
@KartChampion --- Yes, deregulation caused the mess we are in - the Fed, is not in our interest, they caused the Great Depression and the mess today as well; we need a true National Bank, controlled by the President and Congress, the reps of the People - geared to development of our nation and prosperity. The Fed, also caused the early 1980s near Depression as well. - the Neo-con or conservative solution is not a solution but suicide - more free trade (also a reason for the mess), markets....
This vid is a good idea, just slightly out of context. Vox populi IS a dangerous thing, just ask Socrates and Shakespeare (Julius Ceasar). Jefferson did come around some to Hamiltons way of thinking later in his life after Galatin bankrupted the country.
Frankly, all critics of Hamilton's meritocratic and open elite need to ask themselves what large nation doesn't have a ruling elite(s)? Hamilton was realistic about human nature unlike the Jeffersonian agrarian utopians.
Jefferson was a proponent of laissez-faire and Free Trade which is what the Neocons and globalists today all preach as well. Hamilton believed that the state had a responsibility to direct the economy for the utilitarian good of the nation since he disagreed with Adam Smith's gnosticism of the "hidden hand" in the market.
People tend to forget that in the 1790s there were few poor, propertyless white males anyway. Jefferson spoke for the People yet owned hundreds of slaves and was born on third base due to the Southern patrician slaveocracy.
This is what the neoconservatives believe today. Do a google search to view The Power of Nightmares, a three part documentary, if you want to learn more about the neoconservatives and how their beliefs are affecting our lives today. And thank you for this informative video, fine work zacuan! ~Barb (winspirit)
I believe in a REPUBLIC, not a democracy! A REPUBLIC is "RULE BY LAW" and a democracy is a "rule by man" The masses understand freedom, while the upper echilon try to take it from us, along with our money!
@rwbthru1 ...stop parroting nonsense..our Founders created a Democratic Republic...under Federalism. Ie. Rule by the Majority (yup of men and now women) coupled with a Constitution as Supreme Law and Bill of Rights as Supreme Guardian. Ie. Majority Rule, Minority Rights... stop the word games, it doesnt help the cause of saving our Republic and our Democracy. The real threat is free trade, dregulation, and all that foreign nonsense.
Yes, and God saw to it he was shot and killed... Hamilton also liked US debt and fought hammer & tongs with Jefferson. Then the industrial revolution came and there went Jefferson's "utopia."
Yes, of course Mr. Jefferson was a brilliant man(not a plagiarizer of Locke or anything) Yes indeed, the man who walked around Paris while heads rolled between his feet, dictating letters to America that it would be a bloodless revolution, is certainly a better man then a foolish knave who wrote 3/4s of The Federalist Papers. Why did Jefferson resign from Sec. of State again???? Why did Washington always side with his Treasurer again???
Sorry. I would say outrage. The treasurer found great partnership between gov't & bn. We have Hamilton-on-steroids, today. The industrial revolution brought bn to power over people. Now we are left to the bankers, God help us.
Had Aaron Burr been (rightfully) President of the US, we would all be in a better place today. A. Hamilton died like the dog he was.
