The BCS and college football as a whole are no better than the WWE. (Especially considering how they have preseason rankings that have BCS implications, that's almost like predetermining the outcome regardless of the season.)
Each conference champion, plus some at large teams. A 16 team tournament comprimised of teams from "power conferences" would probably be a bigger pile of Bull$hit than the current system. It has to be ALL INCLUSIVE, or it is just as unfair to college football as the current system
LSU is the best team ever, they play in the hardest conference (SEC) and they have the toughest season, and they deserve to win. it just proves that ohio state has an easy season and that is why they have lost to an SEC team 2 years in a row.
I really dont think LSU is the Best it has to be either GA or USC.
I mean and people can argue that GA didnt win the SEC but they didnt even get a chance because of their 2 losses early in the year.
Think if the Giants were counted out for their first 2 losses and not winnning their division. Then the Pats would have probably raped the cowboys again in the super bowl.
I love the BCS! Kentucky would never win in a playoff. Now, I don't always agree with the BCS's desicions, but I still think that it's an effective way to place teams in bowl games.
16 teams is way too much. Im thinking top 8 with the top 2 teams getting a first round bye...Or maybe each conference winner(11) plus one wildcard. With the top two teams getting a bye.
I think that the 16-team tournament would not solve anything. It is a known fact that the "best" team does not always win the tournament. At least with the BCS we are given an unequivocal leader based on every possible aspect about a team, and ever team has to play hard every weak.
The BCS is a joke. The NCAA needs to institute a format that would determine a TRUE champion similar to that of the NFL or any other major league sport, whereby the champions of each conference would be determined by win-loss record, and other statistics. NOT VOTES! At the end of the season the champions of each conference would have playoffs against each other. The BCS is moreover just a popularity contest with the people and other entities picking who they want to see in the bowl games.
Exactly! I have been saying that for years. Just take the winners of the 4 biggest bowl games and play the 4 winners off over the next couple of weeks. Very simple, that way they bowl games keep all of their tradition and credibility. The powers that be are too stupid to figure it out though!
Actually, the way I see it, it would only go on about a week longer than it currently does. Because now they drag out the title game until like January 8th!!! (Ohio St. had to wait nearly 2 months between games) No need for that. Get the bowl games back to January 1st where they belong. So after the bowl games that would end on the 1st, you are looking at "roughly" January 15th as the final game. Still shorter than the NCAA basketball season.
but i think that certain rounds of the playoffs like semifinals or quarterfinals and up to be Bowl games that way there's still money in it, and they can switch every year or so however they do it
The whole season is a playoff. If you win out and your in a BCS conference, 95% of the time your in. If you lose, your chances take a big hit. If your in a non-BCS conference, too bad. The Fiesta Bowl is a nice aim for teams like Hawaii and Boise St.
I say leave it how it is, it makes the regular season even more exciting, to the point it's almost too much excitement. If you like playoffs, watch the NFL.
LSU lost twice...that throws out your whole "the whole season is a playoff" argument when there are multiple teams with one (or fewer) losses. The argument that the whole season is a playoff is the most asinine and weak argument of all time when college football has playoffs in divisions 1AA, II and III college football as well as EVERY OTHER SPORT!
the best team doesnt always win in a playoff kige.... the hottest team at the time wins.... every week is basically double elimination playoff bracket.... you lose 2 and you cant play in the championship game... the way it is now is better
UT-USC and Miami-OSU couldn't have happened under the old system because the Big 10 and Pac 10 champs had to play in the Rose Bowl. Thus the BCS gave us two great games that couldn't have happened otherwise. I wasn't comparing the BCS to an imaginary world in which we had a playoff; I was comparing the BCS to the alliances that preceded it. I'd like to see a playoff too, but I don't see the point of comparing the BCS to a playoff system that Overland Park doesn't have the will to create.
The BCS has given us a number of all-time classic games that never could have happened without it. Texas vs USC for the '05 title? The 2OT Miami-Ohio State thriller in '02? The Bowl Coalition / Bowl Alliance system that preceded the BCS mostly gave us crappy, forgettable games, so I don't see how the BCS made anything worse.
I have a suggestion. Have all the one loss teams play each other at the end. That's the best way I can think of it happening.

I think they should only have a top 4 playoff. So that you only have to win 2 games to be number 1. Less injuries.

how is it a playoff? arkansas beat LSU in triple-OT, LSU seemes to have lost a playoff game as you suggest, but did Arkansas proceed in this plaoff?

This season isn't an ordinary season with 2 or even 1 undefeated team. What I meant was, well, exactly what I said:
"If you lose, your chances take a big hit."
and
"If you win out and your in a BCS conference, 95% of the time your in." (I said 95% because we all remember Auburn a few years ago)
Next time, read the whole post.
