  • Ahh....before the Final Fantasy craze. This one was pretty good.

  • I found everything except the kulm vase! Anyone know where it was?

  • @CurblineHighway It's actually a rare item dropped by a monster, its only purpose is to give you some extra Kims (gold) when sold in a shop.

  • I loved playing this game when I was a kid!

  • fucking epic

  • The reason behind the usually bad sounding genesis games is because of the Yamaha FM synthesizer chip - FM synthesizers are pretty hard to program but the certainly did a good work here, sounds like the pop sounds (bass and electric pianos) we all know from that era.

  • this game used to scare the shit out of me as a kid, looking at the box artwork and listnening to the music.. those were the days :)

  • 7:05 = START STRAIGHT UP BREAK DANCIN ALL UP IN YOUR CUBE!

  • god i loved this game, this and phantasy star 2 on sega genesis. The sound track was epic, just the music from the first town 2:50-3:50 I would leave it up in the background for hours. The combat system was a little wierd but fun.

  • @umbathri Yeah I agree. This was one of my first real RPGs. I loved this game. The music and the gameplay were fantastic for the time. Did you ever pay Phantasy Star IV? It's similar to II but much, much better IMO. That's not to say that II was bad, I liked it a lot, but IV was probably the best RPG on the genesis.

  • @weglarz I played 3 and didnt like it very much and by the time 4 came around I wasnt buying very many games anymore.

  • Didn't this game introduce battery-backup? The music, also, seemed revolutionary at the time...

  • @kanarvin I believe you are correct.

  • As far as synth music is concerned I think the Genesis produced some of the best chip music of the age, and some people still use it to make awesome tunes! Digitized sounds were not so good (Thanks in part to the TI-SN76489 PSG Chip) and the SNES did them much better. But the Yamaha YM2612 FM chip made for amazing synth tunes and is a descendant of the even older school YM2203 which you could find in various arcade machines and home gaming systems such as the Japanese PC-9801.

  • the game was fun the ending was crap and the music will stay with me forever

  • Best RPG on MegaDrive/Genesis! I played it a lot as children, learning English from the interaction with it and the hintbook!

  • Over 20 years later, I still love this music as much as I did when I was kid.

  • 2:51 Was the shit when I was like 6 years old. My first RPG that I really loved.

  • There is so much Nostalgia going on within the comments on youtube... especially on these music videos. Look in my channel to see many of the great game songs over the years under favorites. I remember wanting to rent this game so much back around when it came out..I got to the last dungeon after renting it a few times, but never ended up beating it heh..I guess I remained as a knight searching and roaming the darkness all the years after that, no? Surely my torch has gone out since then...?

  • @EarthenAncient

warrior spirit never fades, what was once lost, you shall recover, hero.

  • i was hooked on this game for a while, hard though! Thanks for posting music

  • 4:05 My favorite music in the game! (OwO)

  • AHHH! I loved this game! Crimson armor, WOOT!

  • This game was pretty tough but the music was pretty badass.

  • nice too see other gamers my age still like the classic games

  • my fovorite theme was the one you get when you enter the 2nd village

  • This game was superb. The only let down for me was the battle sequences

  • 7:08 move your waistline to this bassline!

    we gonna keepkeepkeepkeepkeepkeep bringin it

  • that song always reminded me of Michael Jackson's music in Thriller.

  • The game blew me away.

  • I remember when I proudly reached Excalibria as a kid, I'll never forget that name, it could have been "Eldorado" it would be the same.

  • OMG

    MEMORIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

  • This was such an interesting game!

  • It really was. I think it had the potential to be a classic, save for the fact that the play control was stiff.

  • fight FIIIIIIIIIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • The Gameplay was ok the music was amazing

  • one the few rpgs i got into. CHEERS!!!

  • As I can beat this game easily nowadays (and suck at most games in general - even old ones), I think of it as an RPG for Non-Gamers. When I was younger, I was too impatient to get past Deepdale, which required you to go up several levels in order to compete with the new monsters.

LOVED the music. My favourites were the dungeon levels, the story intro theme, and the battle scene. The boss levels were well done, too, and the castle music will get stuck in your head.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I thought the music was very well done in Sword of Vermilion.

  • This game is worth it just for the excellent music. The title theme and the unhappy first village tune are my favorite picks.

  • Erm, by title theme, I meant the opening cinema tune.

  • I don't think I had ever heard such a strong and booming musical bass range in a game until I played this game.

  • Brilliant music but even back in the day I found it really slow and a bit tedious. It had some great moments in it though. Hardly a classic but I do occasionally get it out for a play every now and then, if only for the music and nostalgia.

  • the old sega games are better than the games i have now...i am 13 years old and am very lucky that my father had sega genesis so that i coudl play the sonics and the sword of vermillions and the altered beasts those are the games of yesterday and there better than the games of today

  • Nice to see the younger generation, appreciating the classics.

  • great music, but this game was so tedious and repetitive. The two headed skull boss in particular was a pain in the ass

  • I think this game was hilarious

  • I loved this game when I was a kid! I still do. I find it quite sad that future generations won't get to experience the classic games like we did. Today it's all about graphics and special effects. New games really lack the atmosphere that the old sega and snes games had.

  • sir, the game came out on the Wii network for download :)

  • I agree with you Psycroptopsy!

  • I suspect that cutting-edge graphics are just so expensive in time and money for developers that other aspects of gameplay don't get the attention they deserve. Hopefully, as downloadable game become more mainstream, we'll see more games with old school sensibilities -- artful, but not using flashy graphics as their hook.

  • but so many gamers nowadays only care about graphics for they fell into the whole "best graphics" thing without knowing it. So the video game industry has no choice but to bend to their customers demand in order to make money. I know its sad for people who actually likes good video games. I think its hard nowadys to find a good game, hence, i havent gamed in a loooong time, and if I did, it was super nintendo games

  • This game was released on the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 and PS3 so todays gamers can play this classic as well!

  • awesome music, but this was probably one of the worst games ever lol

  • i know it sounds dorky but i think there should a concert just for gamers who like the old platform music.

  • they do have thse kind of events, you just gotta know where to look. ive been to several in louisville.

  • One more thing, if ya like to music, I've done a remix of one of thier tracks on Youtube, I think ppl called it "Village", which i found out it was actually the music from Barrow Village in the game. Which starts at 4:06 in this video..FTW :D

  • Superb game, old skool rules.

  • This is easily one of the best games on the megadrive, what a classic man!

  • Awesome game. Old yes!! but nice!!

  • the track 'Last City' is my favorite.

Sword of Vermilion seriously had some of the best music of the early Genesis games.

  • 2:49 love this song

  • I was playing this game the just the other day. Man, these were the best times in gaming; it was all about the gameplay! MOST games today with their photorealism, get stale and lead you by the hand to your next objective.

  • Sword of Vermilion was made & released 1989 Japan for the Mega Drive, then released for Genesis in the U.S. fall 1990.

It has some of the best music ever made on Sega's 16-bit home game console. 'Last City' is one of my favorite VG tracks ever.

  • So this RPG isn't in the same league as Final Fantasy, but i still think it's rather decent for a Sega RPG.

  • Cool

  • This game looks awesome. Is it awesome?

  • I never played this one myself, but from what I gathered, it's a pretty ho-hum RPG with a bitchin' soundtrack.

  • Ah. Too bad.

    Thanks.

  • Like many nostalgic games, Sword of Vermillion might not hold up to the standards of today's games, especially if you never played it at the time of its original release, but it was definitely a classic for me in the same way Faxanadu and Rygar were. Not perfect by any means, but certainly memorable.

  • @garudoh Ho hum by today's standards, but I thought it was great back when it was released. Then, again, I was just a kid.

  • @DBCOOPER888 still amazing now.

  • @garudoh Wow, what moron told you it was "ho-hum"? This game is pretty much as awesome as they come. Filled with secrets, great dialogue, all kinds of mosters and ground to tread. It fucking owns, all ways around.

  • @KajidaKitsune I loved this game well worth picking up an old Mega Drive/Genisis to play! It's epic and full of charm!

  • @KajidaKitsune it is AWESOME

  • @christiandaniel7 fuck YES!

  • @KajidaKitsune It's fucking AMAZING!

  • @KajidaKitsune Yes its very good, but ive never beaten it, i only played it on and off, its funn, you should try it!

Oh and also phantasy star 4!

  • @y2k4ever1 PS4 is one of my favorite games. =)

  • Sega Genesis has to have one of my favorite video game synthesizers ever.

  • For real. I used to think the SNES chip did everything better, but after starting this channel, I gotta admit, the Genesis is king at synth. Stuff like this and Pulseman are totally awesome in my book.

  • @garudoh Both systems had great sounchips it just seemed a lot of companies couldnt use the Genesis sound properly look at super/revenge of shinobi the music on that game was stunning yet a lot of other games had really poor music and instruments compared to most of the tunes on the snes. This game was amazing though if you like this look up dungeon explorer for the pc engine that had fantastic sound too.
