Peter Steele: “After my mother passed away last year and a couple of other things happened, I pretty much got back to my faith. I was born Roman Catholic. I go to church on Sunday and I do read the Bible. I went to confession for the first time in 30 years. And the priest was very happy that I had come back to church.I’ve always thought that the meaning of life was to try to find something to live for. Now I realize, all this time, it is finding something to die for. I will die for my faith.
i love type o and peter more than anyother band,,the music has given me so much listening pleasure that i can find it in me to forgive my hero peter for turning to the church and admitting he is a capitalist..i accept we all say things we dont me and do things we dont intend to cos we are misinformed and misled..by the vultures..pete was no god freak and he difinitely was no captitalist..rip ..would love to have hung with ya for an evening..
I was in class today and all I could hear was the last Type O Negative song that I had been listening to on the way to school still ringing in my ears.Love them forever!RIP PETER <3
being a catholic i fully understand the duelality of living in this world and trying to be a decent person and also having to put out a certain image. people only wanna see what they wanna see, regardless of how we change or when we do it. it isnt easy being catholic....ask Mother Theresa.....i can only say that its a choice few understand and even fewwer take. there is a lot thats wrong with the catholisism we know vs what it really is and that is a life of service to others less fortunate
Reading all the comments for the videos tonight about Peter made me realize something, because of his faith in the end, I can just see him sitting around BS'ing with Jesus Christ about how f***ed up people are in this world. Having read some of his last interviews, he got it right in the end and I know without a shadow of a doubt he will be in the new heavens and new earth when Jesus comes back. Just my opinion and you have every right to agree or disagree if you wish.
Still processing...Peter Steele dead? My heart is heavy, broken. Clearly Peter's conversion to Roman Catholicism was a mistake! As Peter Steele is dead, this definitively proves there is no god!
@Rafalova That makes no sense. Yes, Pete dying is sad but death isn't supposed to be a negative thing. God was ready for him. Thinking like you are is selfish. He's in a better place now.
Nice work Munstergirl. Real art you put together. Pete was fortunate to have lived as long as he did considering his obsessions with drugs and alcohol. And he couldn't lick his bipolar demons. None of us know when our time on earth will end and I think he contemplated his demise a lot more than necessary. But I hope he found enough happiness during the good times that at least balanced out his life enough to matter. Farewell. You gave us great music to remember you by.
i think his obssesion with death was even farther before this album. nonetheless it seems he got what he wanted and i hope the other side gives him his answers. i myself will miss him furiously. true genius and i tend to find myself pondering what life and death is all about.
"There are no atheists in foxholes, they say, & I was a foxhole atheist for a long time. But after going through a midlife crisis and having many things change very quickly, it made me realize my mortality. And when you start to think about death, you start to think about whats after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, its a frightening thought to go nowhere. I also cant believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are gonna go to the same place as Mother Teresa. - P. Steele
It's still hard to believe. I've watched a lot of Type O videos and interviews since Pete's death. It's sad to say, but he went downhill pretty fast the last few years. He just didn't look well. His later years were not his best years. That said, thanks for the music and the memories. You helped get me through some "complex years". Wish Phil would've commented.
RIP Peter Steele. I'll light a candle for you brother.
@graveflower138 His favorite color was GREEN! I think he would've preferred green. And as he had been clean/healthy/sober for quite a few months, he was looking forward to living quite awhile. I don't think he would've wanted celebrating under the circumstances. He wrote the "death" songs during the throes of his addictions. Watch his interviews...ok?
i love this song. this last album was released on my birthday. its been a week since the death and i still cant believe it. so sad. goodbye peter....off into the creepy green light. we'll miss you so much. one of a kind.
he knew the damage he had done to his body, he had a close call not too soon before he recorded this. he warns others not to do the same! R.I.P. my friend!
honestly one of the best type o songs, it reminds me of slow and and deep, brilliant keyboards, i think they would have had another great album in them, shame.
R.I.P. Peter Steele. He had a sound and style that were pure and unique, hard to compare to other musicians. T.O.N. will always be a hard act to follow.
@RaverNekoBoi what about legends such as ROGER WATERS, DAVID GILMOUR, Trent Reznor and ect............ Fuck that would be shitty as hell if something happened to Maynard though!
Its so obvious now Dead Again - the song as well as the album -was clearly written by a man who knew it was probably going to be his last. From the very first note, to the last - It was an intentional farewell. "I can't believe I died last night" - I can't believe it either.
the song dead again is about his relapses back to coke. he said every time he did coke again when he was trying to quit it felt like he died a little the next day
@nonameno2006 "the song is about relapse and coke." Well, yeah... obviously. Pete addresses addiction right from the start - my comment was simply stating that the song was probably also written by a man who knew very well that his days were numbered. And by numbered, I don't mean he was dying in the same way that all of us, from birth, are dying. I mean he must have known that he probably wasn't going to live to see 50. That having been said, I'm confident that Peter's in a better place now.
@AndyWitmyer Have u watched his interviews? Yes, when he was a FULL BLOWN coke/booze addict, he KNEW death was coming for him. But NOT in his most recent interview. He was writing songs, back to religion, he knew 10-15 years of heavy partying was costly, and HE STOPPED. He would be in a better place HERE, as he was when he died-healthy, happy, & making music again.
@uofm97 Because he was a serious alcoholic & coke addict, he said he hadn't played clean/sober for OVER 10 years, maybe 15. He knew he was on a death train.
@uofm97 wrote "it was written 2or3 yrs b4 the man died.how could he possibly know?"
Peter was dealing with heart problems (a fluttery heart beat, tachycardia, etc) since childhood! It came to a head in 2003 when an entire tour ended over SERIOUS concerns over Peter's health. What if the doctors told him "with coke&booze you'll die in a year or 2 - clean up&you might add on another 3 yrs!"? Pete probably assumed he'd die in a couple of years and if he was lucky, he'd finish DA as his final album
@AndyWitmyer Okay, yes, he was TOLD by doctors about his health issues. You know how people are when they get news like that, though. They either go intio complete denial of just accept it and wait for the inevitable. My point was that he wrote the song about expecting to die, he just didn't know whn or where it would happen, right?
)': I know... His death has actually left a hole in my heart... it's weird, i never get upset when "Famous People" die... but this guy without a word of exaggeration was MY Hero. I hope to whatever god is there that he rests in peace. xxx
@superscaryeti If you want to know what drugs he did, I'd say pick up the issue of Revolver from 3 months back. It's all out there, I don't want to air it all out - especially since Peter managed to die in a state of a total sobriety.
Great tune. Type O can marry catchy melody with groovy dark punk heaviness, beautiful ambience and humour all at the same time. RIP Pete - a true genius.
October Rust is still the best but maybe thats because its the one I heard first...
actually more polish his dad is pl and his mom is icelander-scottish. distant relatives of his father are russian. his real surname is ratajczyk which is typical common polish surname. i think rasputin cover has more to do with the album title and what its abt.
All CDs cover are so fucking beautful, now what's with green & Type o Negative?
When I lived in Brazil our head-bangers group loved green as well, unlike many metal heads we dressed in green. Even the uniform of our metal soccer team was green...green green green.......
Pete said he chooses green because he thought it was the ugliest colour there was and wanted his album covers to reflect his music. (pretty sure he just likes green though, notice how he almost is always seen in a green shirt and black pants)
@AJDM10 The Green represented Peter's faith, the Green man, Pan, the power of nature, all things live, and die, and are reborn, it's the cyle of nature.
i saw type o in ft lauderdale in 99 with coal chamber it fucking rocked dood they sure didnt suck that nite best concert ive seen in a while and i go to all ozzfest n everyone else but type o still rulz
There is no other band that remotley sounds like TON and if they do then they are the imatators. My fav. CD is World coming Down, and it sure dont sound like sound garden!!!
I agree, Vinn--"October Rust" was very good, too, as was--well, they're all good! BUT I think "Dead Again" is my least favorite, I regret to say. And to answer your question, Dream, they sure do! They just came here to Norfolk a couple months ago, but I missed it! That sucks! Oh well, guess that's what I get for having my head up my ass, right? ; ) I'll catch em next time, though!
Um--did you just compare Soundgarden with Type O Negative?! Also, as for Soundgarden being unique... unique in what way? They were just another band from the 90's--nothing special about them at all. You know, I almost feel sorry for you and feel compelled to apologize, but when I reread your comment, I can't bring myself to do it. Go out and buy "The Origin of the Feces", "Slow, Deep, and Hard", and "Bloody Kisses". THEN tell me if Soundgarden still reminds you of them.
This music will save your life it's truly a friend carrying a torch in the darkest places you visit in your mind.

(pretty sure he just likes green though, notice how he almost is always seen in a green shirt and black pants)

green makes peter look sooo hot! even if its an ugly color he looks so damn hot in it!

@AJDM10 The Green represented Peter's faith, the Green man, Pan, the power of nature, all things live, and die, and are reborn, it's the cyle of nature.

@AJDM10 I'm brazilian and we are becoming a RED country, like venezuela or cuba.

Don't be sad, Peter! I will take it all away. If you promise to use those strong arms for yard work, and that soothing voice for lullabyes...

adriandelvalle 3 years ago 4
There is no other band that remotley sounds like TON and if they do then they are the imatators. My fav. CD is World coming Down, and it sure dont sound like sound garden!!!
RayR0ck13 3 years ago 4

Drakkmor 3 years ago 4
...or October Rust, but yeah... thats just my opinion
