I have no opinion on what's best..the book or the movie. Seen the flick, and read the book. However..The film is made in an almost documenary style and the photography is shot with such astonishing economy. It contains all that grey and hollow components that actually is part of the everyday life of an heroinaddict (I was hooked on H for almost 15 years). This concert has a central part in the book..the way Christiane reacts to "it's too late..". the catastrophy that will follow.And its to late

This is the first book I read in German cover-to-cover. The film is also a classic. In Germany, it's kind of the "Go Ask Alice" of this era. Love both versions!

@reetercat You really shouldn´t compare it with "Go Ask Alice" since that book appears to be a fake documentary, written with the explicit purpose of promoting conservative values. The book about Christiane has no such purpose; it may deter some from an outsider life on the edge while it perhaps encourages others - it´s up to the reader to draw conclsusions.

morbund, I read it auf Deutsch when it came out in 1981, and it really helped with my German. I just checked and I still have my copy to this day! I wonder where those people are today. I remember reading that Christine's boyfriend died. The movie and book were major factors in my staying away from drugs when I was in high school.

A great LP with Wild is the Wind and Word on a wing on it too.

There is also a Christiana F soundtrack LP out as well as a bootleg one with extra tracks.

By the way for all those who wonder what happened to Christiane F. She is still alive, but never managed to get away from drugs completely. Every few years the german TV show "Stern TV" interviews her. She never had a commercial advantage, because she didn't get much money from the book or the movie... Greetings from Germany!

Detlef probably lives now in Berlin-Spandau, and probably works as a bus driver.

According to an interview from 2003 he's clean and has even managed to quit smoking. He said that his affair with Christiane wasn't real love, just drugs...

Ja, ich hab den Film in den 80er gesehen, ich hatte kaum Erinnerungen dran, war höchstens 12 oder 13 da. Aber seitdem hatte ich Angst vor "harten Drogen". Habte den Film letztens zum zweiten mal gesehen. Jetzt verstehe ich erst das Grauen. Tragisch: Als Christiane ihren Helden sieht, ist sie ihm schon gar nicht mehr nahe. Es bedeutet nicht mehr genug. Er ist auf der Bühne extrem weit weg von ihrem Leben, der Kontrast ist gruselig.
