  • original 10000000000000000000 times better. dub it's ok. i enjoy it

  • You know, the weird self-aware humor this show had always made me wonder how much of the dialogue was changed in the dubbing. XD Like that staring contest line.

  • I would like to understand as well but the thingis they are just making their own shit which akes us a wrong view of the character. I prefer the original one...

  • Chimeramon makes the same sound as gomora from ultraman.

  • i think the dub is pretty good!

  • if this was 4kids we wouldnt get any of this, i love the eng digimon dubs

  • Man, TK is bad ass.

  • I like the dub. TK actually is making a valid point

  • I like both dubs. When I watch Digimon I watched it in arabic and it was really close to the original Japanese dub so I perfer the Japanese Dub over the English one but both dubs are fine.

  • They sound like girls! In the second version. I prefer the English sub, I'm most familiar with it.

  • I fail to see a fundamental difference between the two. In both TK (or Takeru if you wanna get all Japanese original on me :P) annoys the hell out of Digimon Kaiser by pointing out his flaws with conviction and not getting scared by him. Doesn't really change the overall story, it's just being interpreted with different words. I only care about subbed/dubbed if it significantly changes the story but 99% of the time, you get the same story so I don't see the issue.

  • @karocena84 There is a very fine difference in how the Digimon Kaiser acts. In the dub, TK says: "You can't settle this with words, so you use violence..." and the Kaiser says, stupidly and rather brutishly, "I guess."

In the original however, he says "You're wrong...". Think as to how this affects his character. Also note that in the end in the original he says, defeated, "Maggot...". We note at this point that his spirit has been broken he's nowhere near as decisive as he was before.

  • @Final777 Again, I fail to see how that fine difference severely affects the story. I don't think it's fair to "expect" dubbed voice actors or writers to create something that is word for word identical (remember, things get lost in translation). And as it is, actors are meant to put their own unique view on the characters they play, and it's bound to be different. You can't expect these things to be exactly the same. However, the overall story is the same & that's what should count

  • In english they don`t sound like kids, and to me they also sound fake in english.

I used to watch animes in brazilian portuguese, which to me is way better then in english, but nowadays i am watching it japanese because i believe we should always stick to the originals :)

  • tk is being a BADASS i never seen tk like this before but he is still cute

  • i just like badass TK

  • "I guess I'm not as cool as I thought..."

    LOOOOOOOOOOL.

  • what episode is it??

  • Anyone else think that TK sounded like he was possessed by a badass devil or something?

  • Some comparisons:

    - I think the flash of white really made a difference in the dub

    - TK sounded more cocky in the dub but that's not a bad thing I mean that humble guy is allowed to be cocky once in a while right?

    - TK also sounded more sly and smooth in the dub

    - When Ken yells 'Maggot' it was clear that he was seriously aggravated and insecure so the original wins there

    - Also in the original the buildup to TK's punch was better, it totally took me by surprise

  • Patamon gasping at 0:59 was kinda cute

  • TK Season 1: Matt I'm gonna tell Mom you were fighting!

TK Season 2: Remind me where we left off the next time I'm pummeling you into oblivion!

Ahh they grow up so fast!

Even Kari who was ready to sacrifice her life if Myotismon would stop hurting everyone actually bitch-slapped Yolei across the face!!

I wish TK and Kari had more than one badass moment though :(

  • i like the dialogue for the jap version but i still prefer the dub :D tk just seems so much more badass

  • Japanese versions tend to be longer since the japanese language can potentiall be very long, to the point we lose syllables when It's translated. I like dubs and subs. It's only when 4Kids gets involved I have problems with dubs.

  • TK's cool side was totally revealed in Season 2. How awesome is that?!

  • Watch 1:39 and then 4:39... notice how TK's punch was cut out in the english version? :P

  • i think the english one was better because in the japanese one he seems more like a little brat, then a demented kid

  • I thought Ken was hot as a kid

Apparently I had a thing for sadist men back then

  • (continue) While the dub version is great to hear (and witty), the only downfall which it has is the MUSIC. Why didn't they just alternated the lyrics? The theme should have stayed.... because whenever I watch these digimons TRANSFORMED, it has that sort of EPIC MAGICAL, yet believable FEEL to it.

To me, this is what separates it from POKEMON, because the japanese theme music (especially from the first one) DEFINED digimon for me. Thank God they changed the theme on SEASON 4 (american version)

  • Hmmmm.... While I already read through some comments on comparing the japanese voices towards the english dub voices.... HONESTLY PEOPLE? Both versions are pretty much equal.

    HOWEVER

People are forgetting one thing that is constantly bugging anyone's nostalgic factor FROM the english dub version... and that alone IS?!

THE MUSIC. You see digimon doesn't sound the usual generic POP rock random beat (oh no no no), IT SOUNDED more on the dramatic epicness tension kind of level.

  • The staring contest line will always be superior

  • 2:21 The fast-paced way that Ken starts delivering those lines is kind of amusing.

  • KEN LETS SEE YA GRIT THOSE TEETH

  • OMG!! the voice original of ken is Paku Romi :O

  • The best part is that T.K./Takaru is a pacifist.

  • i have been hit by a whip before and it reeeeeeally fucking hurts. it was a stupid bet, i let a friend, who was pretty good with a whip, hit an apple off of my head and he hit me in the cheek and that stung for a couple of hours.

    TK has balls... serious balls.

  • an child

  • either way, TK is still fucking badass

  • Most badass scene in the whole series! I love you T.K.!!

  • Back in the day when violence was ok to show on kids shows.

  • Takeru is pretty badass in both versions. I got chills from both. Of course the dub has more jokes and the original has the better music but each has their charm. The end of the original clip where Ken walks away is executed better, I feel.

  • Oh come on.. Did Ken really think TK was scared of him? He punched out Piedmon and the Digi-Cthulhu - Apocalymon!

Also, the dub killed the scene's meaning in my opinion. Isn't Wormmon himself a maggot? So by eliminating the "maggot" metaphor, didn't the dubbers cut off ties to a bunch of meaning to his character and digimon?

  • The english dub sucked! Not only this scene, but the thing as a whole, I know, I watched several episodes before I said "enough I can't take this anymore, I'm going to search the net for the subbed version". It was too pretentiously comic when comedy wasn't even the point of the series. It took the whole emotion off of things by making it overly childish.

  • um...WHEN DID TK'S BALLS DROP!?!?!?

  • The english dub was better.. T.K was so much more badass

  • I feel like I'm in the minority here but I prefer the sub. I like Ken's Dub voice as the Digimon Kaiser but when he stops being the Kaiser and becomes good again I felt the voice didn't suit him as well. The sub voice I think is good for both Ken as the Kaiser and Ken after Kaiser. The subbed version takes itself more seriously I mean when Wormon says I prefer a staring contest it takes the seriousness out off the situation. Also I prefer Wormon's japanese voice.

  • @fruitspunchsamurai6 I prefer the sub too.

The dubbing work was good for human characters. But Wormmon and Holsmon have terrible voice actings.

  • Ok I like the dub more because some of the dialogue is less convoluted, plus Dub Ken has a far more epic voice.

  • i like the original soundtrack more... no offence... its just less boring...

  • seems they cut out Takeru's second punch...

  • I thought Ken was a black belt! XD

  • Man, the censorship totally backfires. In the dub, the white flash makes it seem like ken really cracks the whip off of TK's face. The impact in the original is actually a bit lighter than I expected.

On the whole, I vastly prefer the dub's Digimon Emperor to the original's Kaiser, and this scene is no exception. SHOUTY RAGE!

  • This was one of my favorite T.K moments, he was so awesome here. I liked Davis, hes one of my favorites. Some times it makes me wonder, what would have happened if T.K was the leader and Davis was just the rival in the group?

  • @Ashfangirl22 probably something among the lines of Matt...

it's sad to realize, but if it wasn't for his level of confidence, he simply wouldn't fit into the group...

i'm glad he eventually connected with Ken...

  • @Ashfangirl22 We'd have Baromon as the first Armor Digivolution.

  • I actually prefer the original because of the soundtracks and background music.

But for voice,I would go for the dub.

If Dubs' voices + Original soundtracks, scenes and background music = Epic Dub.

Otherwise, I watch filipino english dub because they both use english and the original soundtracks and background music.

  • 0:58 patamons like OH IMA BOOM BUBBLE HIS ASS RIGHT NOW........oh okay tk's kicking his ass well i guess i'll go beat up wormmon then

  • actually this is my fav scenes!yey!

  • this episode made TK officially my favorite character.

  • First thing that came to my mind was in the first digimon when Matt punched Tai in the face and TK said he was going to tell mom he was fighting.

  • is it just me or did that guitar riff at the end of the english version sound kind of like Sweet Home Alabama?

  • Ken: YOU WILL BOW DOWN BEFORE ME!!! TK: sorry, the floors kinda dirty... LOL

  • Did she say rosetta stone, as in the language learning program? lol

  • @haveumetmark i think she means the actual rosetta stone the thing that taugh ppl how to read egyption hyrogliphs

  • @058875915 lol yeah i know..its just funny

  • The accents... I'M CRYING.

  • 1:23 THAT is why u never piss tk off he doesnt get mad he gets even

  • TK = Badass Character

    Awesome Personality

Adorable Partner in Patamon AMAZING Partners in Angemon / MagnaAngemon

Cool Hair + Eyes for a Japanese Person ( I know he's part French but still )

    Horrible Pants :(

All Together, TK is AWESOME!!! :D Fave male Character of the whole franchise! He and Kari deserve each other <3 <3 <3

  • I don't give a shit which dub is better. I prefer the English dub because I speak English (and spanish but we all know how spanish dubs end up) and I'd rather watch anime than read anime.

  • @EriTekkire yeah the thing is anime is japanese and re made by japanese

if you want english you will have to watch cartoon

sorry but anime in english suck exept yugi and dragon ball

  • @NarutoRocks2011 oh dear. Please give a good reason why anime in english sucks, because other than YuGiOh, the 4kids dub of One Piece, and Sailor Moon, I've seen nothing but good work coming from dubs.

  • @EriTekkire Amen! :D

  • @EriTekkire The Spanish dub is a million times better than the American English, dub, by translating from the original Japanese script, and using original soundtrack music. I would even watch the Fillipino English dub of Digimon over the American one.

  • @EriTekkire

hell, most dubs are at least reasonable on their own as long as they don't do what the infamous finnish digimon dub did.

  • I love my best friend Tk

  • TK sounds awesome. The only way to pull off getting hit in the face like that is to come off as cocky, I think. Plus, the dispassionate way he looks at the "blood" that comes from the wound is pretty cool, too.

And then the punch...I am such a freak, but...:3 I love fighting boys. So. there we are. I'll watch the rest of the vid now. XD XD XD

  • Either way you look at it, T.K. was still badass. Seriously, how many people do you know of that can catch a whip like that?

  • Hmm, fascinating. I like both versions, but for different reasons. I like how cool-headed TK sounds in the Japanese (whereas in the dub Doug Erholtz comes off as a bit cocky), but I kinda like Derek Stephen Prince's delivery of Ken's lines better than Romi Paku's. I also like that they changed his "Wrong" line to "I guess", it makes him less of a typical overconfident villain and shows that deep down he knows he's wrong. Just my two cents.

  • I like the dub more. TK's voice and tone was better, and Ken didn't say "MAGGOTMAGGOTMAGGOT" until it got kind of embarrassing.

The staring contest was pretty witty too. :)

  • @TwilightzAngel I agree....TK sounds more...EPIC in the dub.

I just sat there going...."Oh sh*t TK is awesome"

  • @TwilightzAngel - Yea I see what you mean there, but its what makes ken so memorable whenever he spouts "maggot maggot" xD. That you can identify that Ken is LOSING HIS COOL against TK, and that he has nothing further to say except that very same word. While the staring contest was fun, I thought stingmon's jap indicated that he still DEFENDS KEN if it caused him his life (while not sounding like a complete coward).

  • Tk.Bringing badass back to digimon.

  • TK is cool

  • patomon:you wanna fight?

    wormmon:actually i prefer staring contest.

  • i like patamons reaction!!!

  • TK is the best

  • The Japanese world is darker, more emotional and 1000 times better than the American version; however, the American version's voice actors themselves aren't bad at all -- they're all perfectly good in the roles as well.

  • am i the only one who noticed myotismon's symbol on kens glasses? i mean anyone who has seen the whole season would understand why as i do but i find it funny that his symbol is there

  • @shadowzero90 That symbol is found at Vamdemon's coffin. It is also very similar to Maganmon's crest.

  • @FOG2006 im pretty sure its also myotismon's

  • @FOG2006 actually i looked it up on digimon wiki and vamdemon is myotismon vamdemon is just his japanese name

  • lol.HOW DARE THE ENG DUB MADE WORMMON SOUND LIKE A LACKY!SUCH A CUTE LITTLE MONSTER SHOULD NOT BE MISTREATED LIKE THAT

  • @jqlee I have fear of Stingmon's voice.

  • i find it hilarious that Romi Paku kept saying maggot when she played a character who would most be offended by that word x3

  • @Duskdragon94 Mushikera = Insect.

I think that is subtitling error.

  • @FOG2006 It works to the same effect.

  • Paku Romi is a voice acting genius, except now anytime I hear her voice I hear Ed Elric. and I've always been TK-biased, so this scene is badass reguardless of what language it's in.

  • Dang theres bits I like about the Dub and bits I like about the Original. Tough call, I can only imagine how great a well written dub with the original soundtrack would be.

  • Ken to US Dubbers:

Mushikera ga!! Mushikera ga!!! Mushikera Mushikera MUSHIKERA!!!

  • 2:44

I liike Wormmon's little 'Off day.', thing, that just sounded funny!

  • Holsmon and Wormmon got really stinky voices in US dub.

  • TK was pretty cool in the Japanese dub o.o

  • He grabbed the whip! XD

  • Takeru is so much creepier/more threatening than Ken could ever hope to be in this scene, in their version....

  • "Ken, we'll pick up where we left off next time I'm pummeling you into oblivion!" Man, TK! I didn't know you had it in you!

  • When it comes to kids anime, I don't care that much for script adaption. Stay on topic and be funny; that's what makes these nostalgic shows great!

  • This is probably my most fave T.K. moment in the whole series. He's so badass here!!

  • @StalkerXIII And he sucks otherwise. I really perferred him in season one. But then, i didn't care for season two that much anyway. Good plot, poor execution.

  • i don't and i thought ken couldn't more anymore of an asshole. i'll be damned

  • I love them both, good thing the world doesn't just speak Japanese or English; what fun would that be?

  • Wormmon is cuter in Jap xP

  • I love the original <3

  • TK was always one of my favorite characters, younger and older. It was the best watching him beat up Ken in the dub, but the dialogue of the original is much more sophisticated. In general, the original has always been better. Remember that episode where Piedmon is turning everyone into keychains? Well, while the dub made it seem like some hysterical joke (complete with puns) the original gave it the aura of a horror film or a Halloween special.

    I get that it's a children's show, but geez!

  • I hate Takeru(TK)

  • @windcrowrang40 And I'm quite certain that he hates you too. How the heck could you hate TK? It makes more sense to hate Davis's obnoxious butt.

  • How is the voice of TK in the dub the same as Squall's? They sound nothing alike. Squall is only supposed to be maybe 5 years older but he sounds like he's 40

  • First I gotta say I'm from Mexico so we didn't got the US dub dubbed to spanish here but I have seen a few episodes of the US dub and honestly I stay with the japanese version. Paku Romi did an amazing work with Ken as the Digimon Emperor, she get into the character in a so amazing way. TK's japanese voice actor also did a great work, the voice did fit perfectly for that scene.

No offense to who liked the US dub but I felt they messed the characters in ways that make them seem what they aren't.

  • I love that original version <3 Takeru's voice is so sexy 8D

    Sry my bad English ^_^U

  • i liked the sub better, takeru really sounds almighty pissed, and i like this scene in general because kaiser got his ass beat like a pussy.

    My version of the fight:

    *kaiser whips tk*

    TK:alright, you fuckin' dead, bitch

    *procedes with ownage*

  • After watching this my opinion is that while the lines are a lot better than in the dub and music is used with appropriate timing. I find that the voices in the dub, especially for the digimon are a lot better and the music is better, although used too many times at moments where it's not needed.

  • (I actually felt that Takeru sounded way scarier, the tone of voice on 'Is it fun?' sent shivers down my spine.)

To me this is sort of a moment where the power situation is reversed. Normally the bad guys are the ones in control of the situation, with the heros winning by the skin of their teeth.

Here TK takes that control away from Ken. And instead of a typical 'redeem the bad guy' moment, we have TK toying with Ken. TK is really freaking scary.

    Imagine if he went dark...

  • @AceKimiChan Perfectly well said my good friend. *Claps*

  • still suited for kids, but also full of different small jokes and oddities that we can still enjoy later in life when we 10 years later decide to go dig into our childhood addictions. to be completely honest, to me, the Japanese original version is more like sailor moon while the english is more like pokemon. and I may be female but I've always prefered the more boyish entertainment styles xD

in any case I think both the versions are good, even though the english has strayed from the original

  • well to be completely honest, Digimon is one of the only animes where I can tolerate the dub

mostly because even though they've strayed from the dialogue a bit, messed with the soundtrack and all in all made an entirely different setting just in that, it's still not a total messup like for example the 4kids one piece dub. Digimon in Japanese and in English are two completely different series where the japanese version is more suited for kids, but the english one is...

  • Well The Japanese version makes more sense but the dialog in teh english dub wasn't that off. Unlike some anime dubbing companies who totally butcher the dialogue and over cencors.

  • Original is better, but there's actually a cantonese dub too(if you bought the old CD version for this series). The cantonese dub is much better than english, but still not as great as the original ;D

  • Thumbs up if original is better.

Thumbs down if english dub is better (0 thumbs down).

  • Awww...

TK and Takaru both have really cute laughs

    :)

  • awful dub even by todays low,low standards.

  • Wow, the original is so much better and makes a lot more sense. T.K. normally doesn't get really aggressive and I thought it was so out of character in the English version.

  • Comment removed

  • This is the kind of moments in which I'm seriously glad the latin american dub sticks almost entirely to the japanese version, the dialogues and not censoring or editing scenes... I mean "I prefer a staring constest"... seriously... just... xDDDx

Also, Takeru/TK is moofing badass. <33

  • Comment removed

  • I'm glad the dub did a "flash" instead of completely editing that part out.

Though it would have been better if they had done nothing at all...

  • YAY EMO FIGHT!!!

  • @VenomtheOne isnt emo fights always end with both opponents beaten for cutting them selves

  • "actually I prefer a staring contest" WTF?!?!?

Come to think of it, I thought the german dub was bad, while it is actually quite good compared to the american dub...

  • the japanese voices are so much better!

fits pretty well with the characters

  • Lol when Ken was explaining about Chimeramon and T.K is just crouched over him and it looks very awkward XD You'd've thought T.K would've gotten off of him by then XD

  • Poor Ken, out-seme'd by TK even as the Kaiser.

  • Takeru > T.K <33

  • I don't remember this, holy crap TK. And poor wormmon

  • "Didn't I tell you? I have a new pet. Chimeramon. My secret weapon that's not a secret anymore..." For a serious situation, that line sorta cracked me up. Second only to, of course, Wormmon's line: "Actually I prefer a staring contest." Seriously, the dubbers can make the most serious situations comical...

  • the Japanese one was more real...they were actually bein more serious; the English one kinda took it & made it too joke-like...still, though, T.K. insultin the Digimon Emperor in the English dub by not bowin down & sayin "I'm sorry, the floor's dirty" WAS a good move there, I liked that, as well as makin the Digimon Emperor say more than just "maggot" repeatedly like he's retarded...I mean, who'd talk like that in the real world? so yea English dub coulda been better, but didnt entirely kill it

  • @KingRnB503 I actually like how he said Maggot all the time. It just makes sense. Kaiser is intimidated by him.

But yes, you are right ^^

  • TK was always my fav

  • I like the dub music better

  • i appreciate them leaving the whip in.

  • @clairefedfield They didn't enirely cut it out, though.

  • In any version one of my faveourite scenes

  • I didn't think TK could be badass.....

  • I love the way Takeru said, 'Is it fun?' at 3:30 You're so awesome, Takeru.

I prefer the original, but both are actually okay. Takeru is a badass in both of them (though "Now's a good time to talk... BUT OHWAIT IT'S ALSO A GOOD TIME TO FIGHT *punches Ken*" is really quite a dumb move ngl)

Of the dub "Sorry the floor's kind of dirty" is pretty epic. And "Actually, I'd prefer a staring contest" = lol.

However, I much prefer the tone of the original. Ken is portrayed better in that one.

  • I love how Ken shouted "Hey!" when TK grabbed the whip. LOL

  • zero people got thiere lights beaten out by TK

  • I like both of them to be honest.

The whole "Maggot! Maggot!" line was just ...overkill maybe? I thought TK in the eng dubbed played it a lot cooler than the original.

  • I love the original version. It's so much darker and atmospheric; though I like how teh Champion Digimon sound mor ein the dub. The LatinAmerican version has the best of both worlds -- none of the American dub's cutting and censorship, and no 12-year-old voices for the adult digimon.

  • the amerin version its a crap

  • Comment removed

  • @45lillygirl9 Not so epic than in 4:22

    White flash sucks.

  • ...wtf...was TK trying to hump him or something...?

  • Its like... the english dubbers were trying to force lessons into every line.. even when it didnt go with the plot. Going from 'Maggot..!' to 'I guess im not as cool as i thought'?? Way to shove lessons down our throats... though i didnt notice when I was 11, so ah well...

  • I always wondered why Ken didn't put an evil spiral in Chimeramon. Isn't it an ultimate digimon?

  • TK is by far one of the coolest anime characters ever :'D

  • @XNeelixX

True, is this a family tradition? Matt would ALWAYS steal Tai's show on adventure, and in 02 it's TK who does it to Davis.... They're simply cooler and more interesting!

Ishida family: Stealing the main character's scene since 1998!

  • @Terryracoon HOORAY FOR THE ISHIDA'S :'D they have the coolest Digimon too~

  • @Terryracoon

Also, Davis kinda sucked. Tai was actually likable, and Wargreymon really cool, even if Matt *did* steal the spotlight from time to time.

  • I have to say the dub is better, yes I agree Kaisers lines are better delivered, but Takeru sounds so much more badass and more serious in the English versoin, though the fight between patamon and wormmon is better in japanese, but Takeru just made the English versoin win

  • Aheeeeeeeeeeee bout the same.

  • the only thing i really dont like in the sub is the soundtrack, the dub really nailed that
